  1. pretty much... if there's no pump, no wiring for a pump and no light, then you could probably argue that someone ordered the car without ABS... ;)
  2. what? the blanking plate instead of the ABS light? ;)
  3. nope, can't afford a £28K car at the moment! If I could though, I dunno what I'd get.... I'd probably end up with a Golf with a REALLY silly engine in it, or an Audi sporty big thing (NOT a TT... )

dunno, I've got a MKI golf GTI that's now registered as a Golf GTI 16V... :| That was done a fair few years ago though, so they may have changed what they're allowed to do now to try and crack down on ringing and the like... :?
  5. the slider pins will just need a good clean up and grease... the caliper kit won't include them as they're not part of the caliper, they're part of the carrier... The kit from Brakes international sounds exactly like what I'd expect to find in the VW kit...
  6. remove the pump... then there's no sign the car had ABS... ;)

kevin, to change the engine type on a V5 all you have to do is inform them of any capacity change (which there won't be if you've gone from a Valver to a G60) and tell them that you've changed the engine number... I've done this on several cars now and never had a problem... give 'em a ring and find out what they're playing at... :|
  8. If it was fitted to the car, it MUST work... however, you can remove it completely as not all Corrados came with ABS... ;) corradowales, the brakes will be have a little less "feel" to them if you simply disconnect the ABS as the fluid still has to go through the pump and valves. It's pretty easy to actually delete the ABS entirely if you were feeling that way inclined... ;)
  9. Majik, look behind the lower bumper grill... See the HUGE chunk of metal plate that's part of the lower subframe which attaches to the bumper/spoiler and kinda diverts the air back up to the radiator? ;) The smaller intercooler was fitted to the Corrado so that the silencer box could be used on the outlet which would quieten down the supercharger enough for the Corrado to be a luxury coupe... Oh, and 'cos it was a shed load cheaper than the big one that they fitted to the limited numbers of Golf G60s... ;)

    Pipe model nos

that's just a breather pipe... The odds are that someone's over filled the oil slightly at some stage and it's escaped there... Take off the pipe and clean it up and see if it gets messy quickly again... if it doesn't then you've sorted it... ;) Oh, and check that it's not blocked inside as this would cause it to leak slightly too... It's normal to see 'em like this on valvers... 8)
  11. should only be a couple of hours to change it as long as none of the pipes get damaged when removing it... problem tends to be bleeding the system afterwards takes a while and can be a royal pain in the ass... (just ask PhatVr6... :| ) The part ain't cheap though and is different on most models of Corrado... :|
  12. I set mine to 925rpm, but that wasn't a standard engine... I'm not sure what the factory setting should be... Gav? do you know?
  13. A golf intercooler is probably the easiest BIG intercooler to fit as it only needs a couple of minor modifications to fit it to a Corrado, is full width, full height and well made... however just about any intercooler is going to be better than the shoebox that was fitted to the Corrado as standard... :| I've been looking around for other intercoolers to use too recently for my new project... I'm quite liking some of the LandRover ones which are all alloy and pretty big as well as some of the ones like in your ebay link... It's rated to well over what you'll get out of a G60 engine BHP wise, so, if you think you can deal with the pipework, go for it! 8)
  14. yes that's your ABS pump... (your thumbnail has gotten confused 'cos you've used a file name that's already got a thumbnail associated with it... call the pic ABS4739210.jpg and re-attach it and you'll get the correct thumbnail) (that was random hittage on the keyboard for the number by the way... ;) )
  15. carefully and with lots of expensive equipment... ;) I'm sure that VW would have done this when they designed the Golf's intercooler... don't forget that the radiator relies on airflow to cool the car's engine coolant system... there's got to be one hell of a lot of air flowing through there to keep the engine cool and that air passes through the golf intercooler BEFORE it gets to anything warm so the effects from the hot radiator and engine bay are minimal... You've forgotten to think about that sodding big grill inbetween the headlights in your aerodynamic thinking, that and the fact that the whole front panel where the headlamps and grill are is about as aerodynamic as a brick...
  16. OK, normal ignition timing on a G60 is 6degrees BTDC at 3500rpm To set this you need to remove the blue temp sender connector and rev the engine a couple of times to over 2500rpm. Set the revs at 3500 and then adjust the dizzy to get your 6 degrees. Make sure you use the mark on the flywheel (slightly harder to see, but cannot be wrong) to set the timing against the mark on the gearbox inspection hole. Once you've set the timing, adjust the tickover speed using the brass screw on the back of the throttle body. Then reconnect the blue temp sensor and the idle should stay at the level you set it at. How do you know that the timing keeps changing? :| If you're checking it withoug taking the blue temp sensor connector off, then the timing's supposed to change as the engine allows for differences in fuel, coolant temperature etc etc etc... Any more details/symptoms?
  17. IIRC VAG want about £400 for a new pump... :| Second hand ones are cheaper though... I have no idea if bosch can repair 'em, but it wouldn't suprise me if they could... ;)
  18. which engine? a few more details will help us to help you... ;)
  19. gibber, did he? Feck, thought that was my own idea... :|
  20. I've moved this thread to "engine bay" as it's not really a wanted advert... :| There's 2 seals which fail on the dizzys on the 1.8 16v. The one that Dave mentions above which is replaceable and one inside the main body which is not and so requires a new dizzy to be installed. I'm pretty certain that GSF / ECP do these a fair bit cheaper than £100... :|
  21. the electrical sensors, wiring faults, the mechanical rotors (becoming damaged, full of dirt or loose), the pump or its internal valves (that's the only expensive one) or the ECU (can be expensive, but normally cheaply repairable) Anything else is just the same as a normal hydraulic brake system as fitted on just about every other car...
  22. flush mount some fine mesh and then paint on your numberplate! Best of both worlds, from a distance it looks standard, but up close it's a cool mod AND gives the extra cooling you want... ;)

    New leak

    ;) 8)
  24. daves16v, what have they done? There's only a few things that go wrong with them... :|
  25. drain coolant. drain oil remove oil filter, big nut, old oil cooler, center shaft (spigot?) and associated water pipes fit new water pipes refit new center shaft (spigot?) fit new oil cooler take off fit BIG nut and tighten to hand tight fit new oil filter (ready filled with oil) find somewhere to fit oil cooler and pipes (that's the tricky bit! :| ) refill with oil refill with coolant. You're ready to go... 8)
