    USA help needed.

please don't put up ANY posts advertising that you'll sell people copies of ETKA. That's piracy and we'll have to delete your posts to protect the forum from the solicitors (although PMs to each other can't be read by the solicitors... ;) )
  2. fitted it and it's now working.... Looks excellent and I don't think it looks tacky either (which I was very worried about...) Pics later when it's dark so you can see it lit up!

    Water Pipe G60

I'll look it up tonight for you and post it up in the morning... I don't have access to etka at work... :|
  4. some make an very audiable noise, some don't... put a screwdriver tip on it with the ignition switched on (but the engine off!) and put the handle up to your ear to see if you've just got a nice quiet one... 8)

    Water Pipe G60

yes, on that pic of my engine there IS (well, was, I've deleted the oil cooler now) a third pipe... One onto the water pump, one onto the cooler and the bottom one goes onto the metal pipe which runs around the block and over the gearbox bell housing... 8) p.s. feel free to use my pics off this site if they're for use on this site... 8)
  6. did this on J-DUB (exactly the same... ) during my rebuild. Fitted it after a bit of swearing without having to remove anything other than the skin off my knuckles... :| J-DUB also has ABS, so you can do it without removing anything... ;)
  7. could well be dodgy grounds...
  8. jimsG60, that's at VW's HQ, not Karmann's...

    2.0 G60???

interesting, olly, didn't know about that... 8)
  10. there's a kit on Dubforce for sale at the moment... 8)

    this weeks demands

Get the starter motor from GSF (MUCH cheaper than VAG, for the same part, even comes in a VW/bosch box!) Waterpump from VW if they're only £28! 8)

    2.0 G60???

2litres G60 using the PG or 1H block (the original block that came in a G60 or Rallye) is difficult to do due to the bore diameter... The max you can safely overbore to is 83mm which (with a standard crank) gives you 1876cc (IIRC) so a 1.9 engine. You can then start messing with the crank to go up further, but you start hitting clearance problems with the block needing to be machined, the oil squirters (which keep the bottoms of the piston crowns cool) need repositioning which means that the pistons need customising and a whole hell of a lot of other things then cascade into the "needing to be done" zone... I asked Stealth about their 2litre conversion when I was after my rebuild and they won't do another one... I get the feeling that, although it was a brute and was an expensive buy for the owner, Stealth were never fully happy with it and may not have made any money on the conversion due to the learning curve associated with it... :| (This may not be what actually happened and was just a feeling I picked up from Vince when I chatted to him about it) I eventually went for a 1940cc conversion (new crank and customised Mahl 83mm pistons) It's got BAGS of low down grunt, plenty of midrange, oh, and quite a bit of top end too! ;) Have a word with 16VG60 if you're serious about it... I got my bare block done by him and then built the rest myself and it's well been worth the money... 8)
  13. Smithy Garage in Sandbach are very good... they're not VW specialists, but they know their stuff... expect to have to wait though, they're always busy... 8)
  14. two thirds of my CD collection (almost 1200 CDs now... :| ) have been on my PC in high quality MP3 for ages anyway... I wanted something where if someone broke in and nicked it, I just had to buy a new one and not have to try and find some of my rare/signed limited edition CDs or one offs like live sessions I've recorded with work... My unit has 4x line out, (L/R, F&R) 1x din style input socket which can be linked via adaptors to all sorts of other toys (wiring diagram is included so you can simply turn on the menu and wire in a DVD player to get audio from it etc...) 8) It's not got crossovers or sub controls though, but does have loudness and an EQ you can mess about with if you can be arsed to read the manual (I can't! ) I'm not sure how the stand alone one works as it doesn't have an amp in it IIRC, so you have to plug it into your head unit... I got this one 'cos it's a one hit solution... no messing about with lots of wires, cd changers, satellite units etc etc etc... 8) Did all that lot in J-DUB with the TV system...
  15. Kev? Check the rubber grommet in the pedal which holds the accelerator cable into the pedals lever.... 2cm play sounds like it may have gone soggy... ;)
  16. where abouts in cheshire are you? (I'm in Congleton...)
  17. Could be a boost leak... check for hissing noises around the pipework... ;) A G60 Corrado engine isn't that complicated to be honest... it's only when you start to need to do work to the supercharger (which you've had done) or the ECU (which don't go wrong very often) that you need specialist knowledge, the rest should be pretty simple for a decent mechanic to diagnose and fix... At the end of the day, it's a late MKII Golf GTI 8V engine and slightly modified ECU with a supercharger strapped onto it... nothing too odd! 8) My best mate is a mechanic and he's helped me sort bits and pieces out loads of times when I was just banging my head against the wall in frustration... Then I end up banging my head some more for not thinking of the simple things he always just comes out with and is spot on!  If you're having problems with the garage not knowing what they're doing, change garage... ;)
  18. KEV? need your experience here methinks... I just ran out of knowledge on this one... 8)
  19. cool... I'd heard the rumours, but I'd never seen any evidence to either proove of disproove 'em.... 8)

    Removing Tailgate

gibber, no change there then!
  21. really?!? I didn't know that... :|
  22. Is there any truth to the rumour that CF bonnets are bloody leathal in an accident 'cos they don't crumple and so tend to shear off the hinges and come straight through the windscreen acting like a guillotine? :|
  23. Neverite, it's off a Scirocco 16V where the air box is on the passenger side, not the drivers, so the manifold had to be reversed... 8)
  24. flusted, that's not correct... ALL early 1.8 16Vs came with the smaller (42mm) inlet manifold... it was only later on in the production that the 50mm inlet was fitted to some of the range to boost their BHP figures and move the torque up the rev range a little...

    Climate Control

Ask Andi (the admin!)... He got it fitted to his VR6 by Jay (G60renshaw) who said he'd never do another 'cos it was such a pig of a job! It IS do-able, but it ain't a simple job to do...
