  1. If I get over 250bhp out of the engine I built, I'll have done well... and that had nearly 4K ploughed into it with me doing all the work... The standard 8V G60 is very difficult to get over a genuine useful* 220bhp unless you run a stupidly small pulley or rebore it... *genuine useful = not thrashing it upto 7Krpm+ to get high BHP readings due to timing, and having useful torque from low down all the way through the rev range... ;)

    exhaust?

I'll lock this up then... 8)

    Dash screw covers

and with that nice simple answer, I'll lock this thread... 8)

    Noisy pulleys..

_leon_, only if you find that sodding hidden bolt!
  5. yup, that's correct Riley... 8)
  6. standard heated ones are £15 from VAG! ;) 8) (got 2 on order! ;) )

    Boot Interior light

benji16v, take the bulb out... ;) The alarm installer should have connected the alarm sense wire onto the earth side of the lamp, not the live side so that it only works on the switch... removing the bulb will leave the switch working OK for the alarm and remove the light from your possibilities list for the battery drain... 8)

    Temp????

get hold of a haynes manual for a 89-94 passat (pretty much the same 8v engine as yours) and replace the thermostat... should be pretty easy to do if you have any mechanical knowledge... 8) You'll need the thermostat, plastic housing, O ring seal and 2 tubs of G12+ coolant... 8) Should come to well under £40 in parts... 8)
  9. Told ya that grommet just pushes out... you just need to not give in with it! ;)  Is it as you hoped now?

    What to do ?

£1600 for a head + fitting?!? What engine? On a VR6 you could buy a second hand head, get it rebuilt and fitted AND do the timing chains and put a clutch in at Stealth for that! :?
  11. PeterMunns, how's you mate intending to get 240BHP out of his G60? That needs some serious work to make that kinda power reliably and safely without needing to rebuild the engine every few months... :| (or nitrous I supposed... )

    Temp????

sounds more like your thermostat has jammed open... :|
  13. A starter motor is about £90 for a new one from GSF and about 30 mins to fit on your own... (2 bolts and 3 wires to remove with 2 spanners and a trolley jack!) Could also simply be a crap power or earth cable to the starter which would be much cheaper... Jumping out of third sounds very much like a dead engine/gearbox mount to me... ;) IMHO, Nugget yellow's cool... just be prepared to be looked at a lot as it stands out quite a bit... 8) Go and have a look at it... 8) Get the owner to rock the car forwards on the clutch with the handbrake on while you watch the engine... if it moves more than about 2" backwards, the front engine mount needs doing, then do it in reverse and see if you can see the gearbox mount lifting up (right at the back right of the enginebay as you look from the front.) Take a pair of jump leads with you, connect one to where the earth strap attaches to the gearbox and onto the -ve on the battery, then try starting the car... if the starter works better, you'll need to replace the earth strap (about £25 and a VERY simple DIY job)... If it's no better, remove that jump cable and then try connecting from where the thick red wires attach to the starter to the +ve on the battery, try starting it again... If it's better then you need a new +ve strap (again, about £25 and a simple DIY job!) If it's no better with either of those, you'll need a new starter motor... Hope this helps! 8) Good luck! :D

    Noisy pulleys..

Don't forget that you have to take off the power steering belt first to get the charger belt off as it runs on the outside of the charger belt blocking it from coming off!
  15. also check that the wires and contacts from the alternator to the starter and the thin blue wire are OK... If these are dodgy they'll put the light on too... ;)
  16. did you change the water pipe clips? They're an utter sod for going soggy and not gripping the pipes properly... I always replace 'em with jubilees to make sure they don't leak... 8) The bit you need to tap is the big bulky valve thing that's got 4 pipes connected to it by the bulkhead above the gearbox. This is the recall valve. 2 of the pipes come from the engine, the other 2 go through the bulkhead to the heater matrix... 8)
  17. ...and public flogging... Non-permanent corporal punishment (ie, something that will heal up eventually) with public humiliation is what these idiots need IMHO... Also would make some money if you put it on TV... ;) Once a few of these muppets got caught and punished, the rest of 'em wouldn't DARE to do it anymore... 8) OK, may not be the most popular point of view, but I don't care...
  18. check that there's voltage to the washer motor... It's an electrical plug on the washer pump which is built into the washer bottle... 8) If there's voltage there, the pump's dead, if not, it's time to start checking fuses and then the switch and wiring... :| Good luck!
  19. why not just put up a new thread here?!?
  20. dunno, never used it...
  21. yeah, I'm not too far away from you either Riley... Get yourself down to the Warrington CGTI meeting, it's always good to meet up with other members... 8)
  22. dinkus, I have that software! :D May have to look into doing just that! 8)
  23. Louie Lungbubble, Riley's MKI is in bits at the moment after he decided to strip it down...
