Fnarr-fnarr.... ;) :silly:

I disagree Mike, have you ever tested the resistance of the wiring from the fuse box to the lights? The copper oxidises and so the resistance increases with age making the headlamps get steadily worse and worse... This is a problem that VW has since addressed by using better quality copper wire so MKIV golfs and most of the more recent cars won't have this problem... The other issue is the distance that the wires are run before they get the electricity to the headlamps... on a high drain item such as headlamps you really want nice thick cables which are as short as possible from the battery to the lights... (I'm sure you understand that this is how Gavs looms works, I'm just clearing it up for other people) You're right that the earth points don't help, and, IMHO, the main battery earth should be replaced on just about all corrados I've seen 'cos they always get crappy due to not having any insulation on it for the last 10 years or so...

WOW! Wonder if that IS illegal in this country and what a Corrado would look like in that paint... 8) 8) 8)

if they've changed the dizzy, don't let them try and tell you that it's a G60 only part... it's not, it's exactly the same as the 8V Golf GTI ones and shouldn't cost you more than £80 for a geunine new Bosch part... 8) Sounds like it's a likely possible cause though... they are known to break down over time and would give the kind of symptoms you described... 8) Hope it's cured for you... 8)

Are you sure that the oil pressure is correct on your engine? It could actually be that the beeping is coming on for the proper reason and you've just found an odd problem with your main beam! :| Otherwise, sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere to me...
-
Yeah, there were loads of pebbles on the track... When Rich Roberts came past me on the straight (I was doing a braking 100->0 run! ;) ) the amount of crap his car threw up at mine was mental... If you go, DON'T follow another car around too closely if you like your paint/ windscreen! The grip on the corner going into the main straight was pretty crappy too... I had a serious moment there at about 75mph where I thought I'd lost it completely and was gonna end up spinning off somewhere... :| Wheel spin out of some of the other corners made for some interesting drifting too, but the main straight was reasonably dry at the main braking points which was probably just as well when trying to come down from 140ish MPH! My car WILL be at Pod (and York) next season and may have had a few more little tweaks by then so we'll see what she can do then... As for the 13.6 time: As I say, I was only going on what Elliot had said, I was suprised by the 7.02 0-60 time and gob-smacked by the 1/4mile when he said it, but I'm still more than happy with 15.4... 8)

ah, man, that sucks... :( I hope that it all turns out OK and that she's not too badly damaged and can be repaired quickly, easily and with the least hassle possible... :| I really do think that there should be a limit on the number of tests you're allowed to take before they just say, "sorry, you're shit, no licence for you..."

try another coil on the car... it could be that it's breaking down with heat (it's sat directly over the exhaust manifold so gets somewhat hot! ) which causes your problems... :| Also check the other usual suspects such as the earth strap between the battery, chassis and gearbox (all one cable) to make sure it's not gone green and therefore high resistance: The throttle body to ECU vacuum pipe which MUST be 100cm long, and, as you can smell petrol, check the fuel pipes... there's 2 on the left of the engine as you look at it from the front, and one on the right which comes from the fuel rail and goes upto the fuel pressure switch... Did changing the fuse box sort the voltage problem to the dizzy? That points at something a little odd in itself, as the fuseboxes on Corrados are pretty bombproof 'cos VW learnt after being stung with lots of problems with MKI Golf fuseboxes... :| Good luck... And Welcome to The Forum... 8)

sounds like it's mis-firing... take each plug lead off one at a time in turn while it's idling and see if you can identify which one makes the least difference... Then check the lead to make sure it's OK, check the dizzy cap and rotor arm to make sure they're OK, and check the plug to see if that's OK too... Post back with the results... 8)

oooh, yeah! now that would be good to hear! :D 8)

hell, I'm still happy with 15.6 in the wet! 8) :D *STILL* haven't managed to get hold of a copy though...

Crabbing is when a car doesn't run with the rear wheels in line with the front wheels.... IE, it's going slightly sideways all the time... It shouldn't actually affect the wear on the tyres as they should all still be pointing straight, just not in line with each other.... :|

with what I've spent on my car, £15 on bulbs is feck all...
-
AARRGGHH!!! I STILL haven't got a copy... the local news agents around here are utter $#!t... :(

I think it came to about £15 for all 5 bulbs when I did all of mine... 8)

let's put it this way, I had my charger rebuilt by Jabba just under a year before my engine bolt broke and wrote off the engine... While I was rebuilding the engine, I sent the charger to Daz to have a look at... He sent me photos of the internals and the bearings were non-too-clever and were definately on the way to seizing up! :| Daz commented that the flowing that had been done by Jabba was reasonable, but he took it a little further anyway, and opened up the outlet to match the Golf G60 U bend outlet that my car now runs with... When I questioned Jabba about it, they just plain didn't want to know... Even though it was under warantee, they didn't reply to any of my emails (with photos included) and just fobbed me off on the phone... I know where my money will be going in future, and that's either G-Werks or JMR for any work I need doing... 8)

Halfords only sell one of the types (the brighter ones IIRC).... to get the lighting correct, you need both types and only VW sell both... ;)

I've not yet seen the mag article... as I said up there ^ somewhere, that's what Elliot told me on the day, so I'm quite prepared for that to be corrected... 8)

oooh, this should be interesting when it's done... 8) 1.9T P&P 16V with LSD... mmmmm... 8) It all depends on which turbo you are running, but I seem to remember that the Turbo Technics conversions run at around 220BHP... I could be a mile out with that though... best person to ask is Kev, as he used to have a TT Golf... 8)

sounds like the plastic membrane behind the door card has been damaged when someone's fitted some speakers... Take off the door card and you should find a sheet of plastic stuck to the door... this is the waterproofing door membrane... if it is damaged or has come unstuck, stick it back on with some good quality gaffa tape and you should be laughing... 8) Alternatively, it could be one of the rubber grommets between the engine bay and the cabin which has been damaged. It's also worth checking in the scuttle panel to check that there's no build up of leaf debris which will block the drain hole into the inner wing... if this is blocked, you'll get water coming in from anywhere it can! Oh, and there's also a trend for the seal around the interiour fan intake to go and allow water to leak in there too... :| There's quite a lot of info on here about the various leaks and how to fix 'em... find out where yours is coming from, then search for it on here to find a good cure! 8)

you need one from a MKII Golf with central locking though... Just buy a normal MKII golf one and it comes with a key too... slightly more secure... 8)

Possibly... some head units will only work with both power supplies on... It's definately a case of lobbing in a multimeter (or even a bulb!) to see what power you have on which wire and when... if one of them has never got power, then you know you have a slightly deeper problem somewhere, probably a dead in-line fuse or similar... I've cheated in my car and I've run a seperate permanent live straight to the battery to power all of the gizmos in my dash so I know it's not trying to run 101 other things off a 3A fuse and has it's own fuse at the battery to protect the car in the event of a fault... 8) I then use the permanent live to power both switched and live wires so that the stereo isn't affected by the keys position... :)
