Hi all, a right pain in the arse this one is! First day of work after the christmas hols, car started on drive fine and drove very well for about 10 mins (i even commented to myself on how good it was driving! bad move!!). Got to a set of traffic lights and had to stop, luckily about 3 cars back, looked at my dash to see the battery light flashing then the oil light flashing then the engine stopped, just cut out with no stutter, jolts or anything and thats how it has stayed ever since. The starter motor turns but the engine makes no attempt to start. I have fuel, air and electricity ruling out a few problems including the imob. Since being towed home there is now a whistling/screming noise coming from around the metering head but the problem now is that the battery is very low on juice which might be the cause of that! Sorry for the rambling probably incoherant wording of this post but i have just got back in after waiting an hour for the AA chap and have been staring into my engine bay for a further half hour and its bloody cold and wet.

Tis one of these Click Me! Sorry havent got a pic of my engine bay but it sits on the front rightish of the engine manifold and connects to the pipe that runs across the front of the engine... -
probably worth getting the coolant elsewhere due to the delivery charge
-
you could wire it up to your speed camera detector, to drop whenever it goes off!
-
or you could just drive without number plates...... this bit in the FAQ made me chuckle... "Remember that cleaning your plates on the road might be illegal in your country, we recommend cleaning your plates with your car parked in a garage. "

 ah i see, sorry tis the home brew...I'd go with what khurrado said. i'll shut up now

yeah does a good interior, sporty chassis and a funky spoiler (+ whatever you nitpickers will add) justify an extra £4k?
-
So......did you ever have/see this car started?? I'd start by checking all the connections from the start button, is there a fuse with the button...it'd be simple to test if it the button switch itself not working as you should just need to connect the wires on the back of the button start together. It certainly could be the ignition switch or something else...

will be very interested to hear your feedback will 2

well to rule out various things such as air in the system and sticking stats i think your next step is to drain down the system, replace the gauge temp sender, the rad fan switch and the thermostat. refill with G12 coolant (and water ), oh and change the expansion tank cap for a blue on if you haven't done already. All can be bought from http://www.vwspares.co.uk/ for not a lot of money.

found spare key?

Almost exactly how much money it costs to fill mine up from red so it doesn't seem like a fault with your car. Also ETOS does say that the 9a does use a 70ltr tank and the KR uses a 55ltr, i'm stumped on that one.............

80* water in traffic? seems low, should at least be pushing 100.......
-
so....any ideas about these leaks? did any of the changed pipes have crack is and were in fact leaking? is it leaking from any of the pipe joins? is some of the system pressurized and the rest not? Just a few things to get started on...

If it was a grey MK1 then it did put out some huge figure, which i cant remember, it also put out some huge flames!

 another coolant problem, water pump seized?

I've always found the chrome hobby spray paint very good, never used it on car bits but I'd imagine it would be fine if sprayed with lacquer.
-
Due to both engines appearing to be the same in every engine bay i've seen, i'd guess you could do a straight swap
-
Yep, if you wait a bit you'll find em cheeper.

Do a search, been loads of threads recently....guess its the cold weather Wouldn't like to say if its a big job as the car is a corrado.........but it shouldn't be
