Thats OK...

They missed out the bit about him not having any insurance either!
-
Hahahaha, serves the arrogant toss piece right!!

Will jump start as in you attach leads to battery and the ignition switch will then work?? or do you mean bump start? as in you have to push it? GSF ones aren't that good but it should still work, just wont last as long as a VW one. If it wont start from ignition switch then there must be something around here thats shagged (cables, switch, barrel) If it'll start of the ignition but only when jumped then the battery must be knackered

Indeed it does, the worrying one in the central locking! that one really shouldn't draw enough current to melt the fuse, even if it did because of a fault, like GixxerUK said, it should blow the fuse
-
If they're getting that hot the fuse should have way broken before that! Sounds a bit scary too me!! I assume the correct amps are used? i deffo start by getting a new set of fuses though!

 I keep getting stuck in eatthis's reply when I scroll down, fools me every time!

These have been put in fairly recently around here, in use all the time rather than just for roadworks. I believe that they're on the A140 (Ipswich - Norwich) and luckily I never really need to drive it.
-
Urmmm no, but due to it saying 89-91 and your car is 91 i'd say it's fairly likely.......you'll need someone with access to ETKA or ETOS to say for definite, i wont be on mine until tomorrow now.

There is a number of recent posts regarding similar problems. You didn't mention that the HT leads were changed this could possibly be the problem, there should be a cold start injector on the front right hand corner of the engine, in a horizontal position, possibly with a blue plug on top of it. This could cause the problems explained.... Did you check out things such as the air and fuel filters? although i'd assume this would cause a constant problem rather than only when cold. As for the temp gauge sender, it's a very simple piece of equipment, just to be on the cautious side i'd replace it with one from http://www.vwspares.co.uk/ as they are only a couple of quid, and that'll rule out being sold a dud from VW. If that still doesn't fix it check the wiring to the gauge itself as the problem must lye here!

So what the hell's gone on there then?

Useful, Could it be added to the Wiki?

I agree, it's like they couldn't make up their minds as to what they wanted to do and just crushed a load of cars together to make that.
-
I believe they are different types, long and short, the mr gaitor ones i always see on the bay are around £15 and appear to only cover the lower part of it and not the handle.
-
I quite like the idea of the chrome surrounds though.
-
Cheap looking and naff, only in my opinion of course!
-
From what i've searched it appears that number 3 is only available from dealers, you could check out GSF, but again your quite likely to be given the wrong part
-
Yep thats right, sorry.....should of known really as i did my lights not so long ago!
-
Hummm dunno, its the car that has the connections........

Just what i was thinking........

If its misbehaving when the air is damp I'd start looking at the electrics, dizzy cap, plugs leads, etc.
