It could be........have you had them out to check them? What about some of the cold start equipment? Sorry, what car is it?
-
G12+ is what you need, dont mix it with 11 tho. have a read of the thread below, Supercharged says some useful stuff about half way down Click on me
-
Neil's correct, there should be one on the other side as well?
-
+ what coolant did you use?? was it G12+?
-
Yeah there's a control switch on the fan that doesn't cost that much to replace, get a new blue tank cap as the old black ones have been know to cause problems similar to yours......but if coolant is backing up i'd put a guess on the thermostat not opening. Regardless to which is causing the problem, i'd change both.
-
Top stuff there Yan, and yes the fuel pump does contiunue to run after a few seconds....so there's another thing to check out!! Bloody corrado's
-
Managed to drive home last night without a problem, it might have even been driving a little better than normal. There's still a few strange noises around the engine but the could have very well been there before. I didn't check out the lift pump but for the sake of £20 I'll probably get another one anyway! Many thanks to all for you help, any suggestions for the odd noise would be appreciated.

Does anyone know whats around that area?
-
Oh but to add, a knackered fuel pump doesn't account for why i had complete electrical failure which was the initial problem....the mystery continues
-
OK guy's will disconnect that after work. On the subject of the strange noise from the throttle.........there is a sucking noise coming from around the 3rd inlet manifold pipe, you can only hear it when the throttle is opened. It isn't coming from around the gasket area but from the back????? Cant pin point it though, but this is the only area around the manifold that it can be heard!

Problem is that even if you drill the heads of the ones in the hole you still cant lift the light out due to the screw acting like a stud through a fixing hole in the back of the light unit. I had to drill the top of with quite large bit, get a screwdriver around the back of them and bend the brackets down that these screws go into. Its a complete pain, why VW didn't use decent stainless screws in the first place is beyond me! it just turns yet another seemingly 5 min job into 5 hours!
-
Yeah best of luck with that, hope they're not as bad as what mine were! Just make sure you use stainless. If they are as bad let me know and i'll go through how i managed to get them out.....
-
OK will do that, many thanks again
-
OK David, fuel pump is noisy but doesn't change in pitch. The engine does misfire at low revs but seems to be fine at higher revs (no hunting, hesitation, etc) still making me think that i've got some funny electrics somewhere.
-
Lol, funny you should say that about the rotor arm as that is exactly what needed to be done. It's up and running but not well, i'll be going back to it after work as i've decided to come in today. Always good to replace the fuel filter especially if its old, but on mine i'm still unsure as to whether it helped due to there appearing to be an electrical problem as well.....ho hum
-
and after cranking the engine by hand a few times....
-
OK, finally managed to get it started but it now misfires. Fuel filter and rotor arm have been changed but still unsure as to whether either has helped because we also swapped the battery over with some massive TDI one that Supercharged had lying around  The odd thing was that the starter motor was working (apart from starting the car) when it broke down, but after i was towed home it just locked every time and all went dim........... oh well i suppose it'll mean taking tomorrow off work :(
-
useful advice, cheers!
-
shhhh you know you shouldn't say things like that! Corrado's hear everything......
-
 yes well this was only tested by undoing the return banjo on the meter and fuel squirted out all over the place, went and did the same thing befor and nothing but a trickle.
-
Just found that i have no fuel pressure! Pump appears to be going which gives us suspect C, the fuel filter! hopefully!
-
Well, just got back and rolled it into the garage... The battery is now at full charge and that screamy winey noise is still coming from somwhere around the metering head, interestingly engough only when the imob is disabled, possibly indicating bunged up fuel system?? Also the starter motor wont do anything, please tell me that this is ok and all part of some fancy safety system :(
-
OK but anyway.....cheers for all those suggestions, there shouldn't be a problem with the rotor arm on mine as when the AA chappy tested each lead it gave a very bright light on the tester, but its worth changing it anyway. hall sender is certainly worth a look at, but all appears to be happy up at that end, my suspicions lie highly with the metering unit......
-
Supercharged, probably worth getting the arm as well. many many thanks for your assistance as always. Kev, Wasn't that you attempt of a cure to Steve's G60?? although i seem to remember it being a huge breaker bar that you were whacking it with  Goldie, will try that after work
-
Right, cam belt is still there and has high tension (as do i!). Battery now on charge for when i return, time to go to work!
