  1. Right i rang Vince and asked if he will map the car with or without the MAF and he said that because mines the latest ecu type (with immobilizer etc) that its easier to work on and can run a MAF better than others, he also says that because i am only going to be running about 8psi that it may benefit running the MAF as well. He said that i need to run the MAF as far away from the charger as possible so where would i put it? Close to the throttle body just after the 50 >80 reducer maybe? Or does it need to be the other side of the charger (cant remember if thats upstream or downstream!)? Also i need to find out from R-Tech if i need to run a driverter valve or not as Vince didnt really know, but he said that if i do run one that i need to divert it back in far away from the charger again, sorry for being thick but whats that then?? I dont really understand all this MAF and diverter valve business!
  2. The GTI Spring Festival logo has all golfs lined up, all in the same colour as well. Dont know if its the one you are after though. LINK
  3. Are those the ones from the mk3 (7x16) or from the mk4 (6.5 x 16)? Im looking for a set of these, there are a few for sale from the mk4 but its the mk3 ones i want as i want 7j wide as i have tyres that will fit them.
  4. Nice one Kev, so the sizes are obviously slightly out then on the hoses, im guessing as they have to be slightly bigger/smaller to fit on to each other! So i need one of them and a 135 degree elbow to come off the tb, then a length of 50mm pipe, then im guessing a short bit of 51mm hose to connect the 50mm pipe to the charger outlet?, then a 90 degree 80mm elbow (80mm or 76mm like the reducer?), will a cone filter fit straight on to the end of this hose or will i need a bit of 80mm pipe between them? Just want to know exactly what to order! I will ring Vince and ask him whether or not he will be mapping it with the MAF.
  5. I sent my money to R-Tech today for all the brackets and pullies (including 100 euro oil :( ) for my rotrex so that will take a few days to go through then another few days to be delivered im guessing so hopefully i will have everything i need to mount my charger next week! All i need to sort out now is all the piping. The charger has an 80mm inlet and a 50mm outlet. I will need an 80mm-50mm reducer in there somewhere so im thinking of keeping it at 50mm as long as possible to the throttle body to give better low down torque as apposed to running it at 80mm. Whats peoples views on this? So the generic order would be: throttle body > 80mm-50mm reducer > 50mm elbow and pipe to charger outlet > charger > 80mm (90 degree bend) off the charger and then a cone filter. Just having problems finding the right sizes now! The reducer mainly, i cant find an 80-50 reducer! Once these are sorted i just need injectors and then its fit it all and take it to Vince :D I need to ring Vince actually to find out if he will be mapping it with or without the MAF, does anyone know what he's likely to do? EDIT: Also does anyone know if i will need to run a blow off valve with it? I will have to ask Vince i think when i find out about the MAF.
  6. Jeez no wonder the doors drop so easily, 32kg is a hefty bit of weight to hang on a couple of bolts!

    288mm disks

Cheers Charlie! Glad to hear you have got some 288's now, i can imagine it being a bit scary on standards with a supercharger! Alternative to GSF is Euro Car Parts which states what the discs are, and for ATE discs its £34.30 each so with VAT and delivery works out at £90. Worth going for them do you reckon or are there cheaper options?

    288mm disks

I need to get some new discs for my new 288 setup as the ones on it are warped (steering wheel vibrates when braking at higher speeds!). What discs would people recommend? Im running red stuff pads so just want some normal discs really, not bothered about spending a fortune on vented/drilled/named discs. Are the standard discs made by ATE? Thinking just some 288mm ATE power grooves? I have had a look on GSF and all it says on there is BRAKE DISC - VENTED 288mm, so what would these be do you reckon?
  9. Its not just you mate, i do like the look of some 17's on corrados like pretty much any BBS wheels (especially RC's and LM's) and i also like 17's with deep dish and flared arches etc but general 17" wheels dont do it for me which is why i am also going for 16's (selling my brocks :( ) in particular BBS RX2's from the golf mk3 anniversary! And i already have the tyres on my brocks to go on (215/40/16) which were easily accessible enough in Toyo form :D
  10. Well tbh John once this supercharger is sorted out i have to renew my insurance which is going to be quite a bit so i will be as skint as skint can be for a bit! So i cant afford to mess around with wheels which is why i would ideally get some BBS RX2's for example now, i could put the toyos i have on my brocks on them (215/40/16) which would fit perfect and then sell the brocks to make the money back. However if i got 7.5" brocks for the front i would have to buy 2 new ones because there's no way i will find someone selling 2 second hand ones on their own, then i gotta put some tyres on them, then i have to get them sprayed the same as the rears!! And i could only sell 2 of the 9's to make some money, but whoever buys them is going to have to spend money on either spraying their other 2 the same as mine or spraying mine standard colour again! Too much hassle really where as i know for certain they will sell fast as a set, i have been asked about selling them a few times!
  11. Yeah the wheels are really hard to decide on! I love how my brocks look, im also not keen on the 7.5 fronts myself BUT the 9's are so damn uncomfortable for a daily driver, the 9's up front are a pig for torque steer and tramlining as it is so it will be terrible with the supercharger on it  so 7.5's are the sensible choice OR just get rid of the brocks altogether and go for some sensible and light 7 x 16's all round that will make be much better with the extra power, thinking something like BBS RX2's from the mk3 anniversary! Im only going to be running 8psi from the charger to start with which on these rotrex's is barely ticking over, it should run about 280bhp. But these Rotrex's can take more boost and go up to 400bhp! So when funds allow all i need to do is fit a spacer head gasket to lower the compression and fit some ARP non stretch head and conrod bolts and i could run 350bhp all day long :D
  12. lovely & compact those chargers though eah, smaller than the alternator! Ian's probably right Rob, my kit came with 1litre of SX100 which at 80 euros plus VAT is'nt cheap but its better to run it on the correct stuff at the end of the day, the oil coolers a nice addition but not necessary until you go past 300bhp but certainly won't hurt it. That small black inline lump in your oil lines though is essential, its the primer for the oil system (did'nt get one with my charger when i picked it put unfortunatley and had to source elsewhere) the C30 series does'nt need it but our SP series chargers do. Am still trying to find the digital version of that SP series PDF manual on my bloody hard drive but if i can't i'll scan the print-out i've got already & pm it to you next week. Ahh i was wondering what that was, im glad i got it then if its essential  Yeah that would be great mate if you can PM me a copy, would come in handy when fittin it.
  13. Its not too bad really, its just basically undoing lots of screws  you just need to remember which parts go where but you cant get it wrong really because all the plugs are specifically for each button/switch. Yeah its going to be pretty awesome, its all about the show AND go, i wanna look good as i piss past other cars
  14. Yeah Mr Fusions set up gave 5 psi as soon as he touched the throttle! Thats wheel spin city  Im only going to be running 8 psi max though so hopefully mine wont be lighting up the tires toooo bad! Also with the inlet pipe being 80mm and the outlet pipe being 50mm that helps with low down torque as well i believe! I have read up about the rotrex alot when coxy's came up for sale as at first i thought they were only for serious power and was put off with the fact not many guys were running them as apposed to the vortechs which are as common as muck! But they are a very solid charger capable of some silly power in the future so i decided to go for it. I understand superchargers are never going to be as fast as turbos really but at the end of the day i wanted more power not stupid power and power that was usable throughout the rev range so a supercharger is perfect, also they cost less which helps!
  15. Thats good to hear, atleast now i know he has a bit more experience with the rotrex chargers as i believe Mr Fusions was the first he done? Im sure its not that much different to a vortech etc to map though.
  16. Yep definately not a turbo  It mounts on the side of the engine where the airbox would be, it mounts on a custom bracket and runs off the main pullies. Here is a pic of Mr Fusions installed: All i got from Coxy was the charger itself and its oil supply including oil cooler. I need to get the custom bracket, pullies (mine hasnt got aircon but it needs the aircon pulley to fit) and belts to actually fit it to the engine (from R-Tech in Denmark) and then i need to upgrade the injectors as i intend to run about 8 psi so will need bigger injectors (still looking into the saab black tops!), and then its just the piping for it and a cone filter really and then take it to Vince to map it all up :D so shouldnt take too long hopefully!
  17. Ok i thought you were being serious  I dont know anyone that smart! I will have a word with a few guys who know their rotrex's and see if there's anywhere i can source some traction oil cheaper! Im sure there will be!
  18. I tell you what it does feel like olive oil, sod it i will just use that! Where the hell would i be able to get the oil tested???
  19. Yeah i showed my mate it and he was certain its a turbo  The charger is quite small so probably makes the oil cooler appear more hefty  Does anyone have an idea on how much traction oil im going to need to use for it? Its 100 euros per litre!! so i dont really want to have to buy more than a litre, coxy seems to think a litre will be enough for it.
  20. I have just realised that my engine bay looks really clean in those pics .. bit of camera trickery me thinks
  21. I thought i was going to be doing the work and you were just going to be assisting? If thats the case shouldnt you be the one making the coffee and toast for me?? Only kidding mate, there will be as much toast and coffee as you want!! :D
  22. I got my charger today! YAY!! :D Its a beautiful thing! Cant wait to get it all fitted and running
  23. Yep all show and all go  Although tbh its going to be less show soon as the brocks might be going. Still undecided on what to do, either way i need to make changes as i am putting my 288's on soon and the brocks dont fit over them :( so im running speedlines until i decide whether to change the brocks for some sensible 16's or just replace the fronts with 7.5's instead of 9's which will clear the brakes!!
  24. I have a supercharger!! I bought Coxylad's Rotrex supercharger off him a little while ago, took a while to pay (sorry again!) but finally i have it!! Its beautiful! I cant wait to get it fitted! Its a lot smaller than i thought it was going to be, certainly looks smaller than the Vortechs thats for sure. Just need to order the brackets etc from R-Tech in Denmark now and get the rest of the bits and bobs liks injectors, intakes, filter etc and then fit it! :D And of course i had to put it in place to see how it looks  Thanks again Coxy mate you are a legend! Karl - Start booking some weekends off
