Just a thought mate. When Dave was wiring up my 24v he noticed the N156 valve was missing. I've never heard of it but apparently it controls the switching between the long/short runners on the variable manifolds.... hate to ask but have you checked this on yours? Maybe its malfunctioning and having an effect on what runners are in use and when? Hmm good shout! I'll have a look in to it :salute:

Yeah I have my original speedlines so I don't mind doing that when I get them :salute:

I have just ordered some GAZ GHA (Fast Road/Track) coilovers which offer adjustable height AND 42 way adjustable damping for the sum of £546 delivered (Corby Motorsport as they're quite local to me). Good Points: Price - £546 delivered, much cheaper than the well praised V1's but these offer adjustable damping as well as height. Setup - They will set these up for your personal use, i.e. just road use they'll recommend softer spring rates and will set the damping up to suit, or if you are likely to do track days they will setup to suit etc. You can have your say in all of this. Reputation - GAZ have a great reputation for damper quality Bad Points: Have had quality issues in the past with the zinc coating on the threads, but I have since read that these issues have been improved. Delivery takes 3-4 weeks but that's due to the setup being so custom, not just off the shelf you get what you're given like KW/Weitec etc. I can't really comment on any bad points yet obviously as not tried them but I shall report back with a review when I get them and have driven the car a bit. I'm really excited to get them now, just got to wait 3 weeks before I can get them on! :(

I'm happy to be a guinea pig if it means finding some coilovers that give good handling and comfort and dont cost stupid money!! Hmm I probs need to ring him back then as I went for the rates you have on your V3's, 325lb front 228lb rear. Or do you reckon they'll be ok? I don't want it to be too hard but I also don't want to be leaning in the bends! I'd love to be able to drive down a back road and not be sh*tting myself over 50mph FFS

No not found out the cause of the flat spot yet :( When I was at Stealth on saturday looking over my car (for causes of the bad handling etc) we briefly spoke about it and they reckon it could be something with the cam advance or something along those lines but there's no telling unless I get it to them to have a real look at it. That's the next thing on the list really as my main concern at the min is getting the car driving a lot better as I'm not enjoying driving it anymore!
-
Small update, the car is booked in to Stealth next week to finally get the rear axle bushes done so they should improve the way the car drives a bit! Also after fitting new drop links to the car at the weekend, I decided to check the condition of my engine mounts as I have been getting clutch judder and the engine generally feels 'crashy'. Turned out the cheapy GSF mount I put in not long after putting the engine in (so not even a year old) is foobarred, standard  I can pretty much pull the rubber apart from the metal by hand so the engine pulling on it must have been sloppy as hell! Fitted the VT mount I had lying around which I removed originally as I didn't like the vibrations, needless to say the engine feels solid now and the way the car drives has improved. Just have to put up with few more vibrations now until I can be bothered to order a new VAG mount. Also, I have finally ordered my new coilovers  Went for the GAZ's in the end, annoyingly they take 3 weeks to arrive though as they're made to my requirements, not just off the shelf. Still in discussions as for which spring rates to go for as the recommended rates seemed way too soft to me so we've gone for somewhere in the middle of theirs and mine (uber hard german 'sporty' 400lb springs!) so it's still firm but with the vastly better (and 42 way adjustable!) damping it shouldn't be crashy! So whilst I wait for these to arrive I am also going to be accumulating the parts to fit a fixed steering column to get rid of the masses of play mine seems to have in it. So in a few weeks time the car should be driving sweeeeeeeet! Then I can start saving for more power
-
I'd get your tracking done mate, even soft tyres won't just wear on the edge if the tracking is all good! The car doesn't necessarily pull if the tracking is out. Try and get it 4-wheel aligned by somewhere reputable.
-
That's what mine's like at the minute, but then mine don't really have much damping left tbh
-
Wow that looks familiar  Good progress dude, not long to go now!
-
Yeah looks awesome 8) love the white wheels, they're the future!
-
If the steering lock was on they most likely would have wrenched the steering wheel round with a crowbar or something to try and break the lock resulting in them actually pulling the column off most likely! Not sure about the seatbelt plug either  Either way sorry to hear about this, fcuking scum :bad-words:

I was just thinking that exact same thing. Is that the only reason the bias valve needs to come off then just to remove the beam bolt? I didn't think the beam would drop down low enough to get the bushes out with the bias still attached which is why it needs to come off? If it's just a case of hacksawing the bolt and putting the new one in the other way I don't see a problem!

Yeah they still look good! Suit your car better as they're more sleepery imo, which is what your car is all about 8)

Ahh the weedy Pro Race 1's

Which Weitecs are we talking here, the GT's or the TX's? I have the GT which are height adjustable but fixed damping. I believe the TX's have adjustable damping, so are the equivilent of V2's but for less money? Perhaps they would be a good choice to go for? Still think they're ~£700 though, the GAZ's i'm looking at have adjustable height and damping and you choose spring rates etc and they're about £550. I'll be ordering mine soon so depending on how long you wait to get some of your own, I can take you out in mine to add another to your list for comparison  -
Does it do it when the car is moving on full lock, i.e. turning round/parking? If so that sounds like CV joints. If you're simply turning the steering to full lock then I don't think it would be CV's and think you'd then be looking in to steering components.

Well these are just my views really, I know there are guys that have the Weitecs and are happy with them and there are also guys that think they're too hard like me. It's down to personal choice at the end of the day. I was happy with my Weitecs when I got them but I was younger and I was in to the slammed with wide wheels look and they were also my first set of coilovers, so I was none the wiser. But now I just want to drive the car and enjoy it I find them way way way too crashy, especially after experiencing Kev's V3's which are firm but a different league in ride quality! Mine are much crashier now though because they're leaking which is due to the roads I used to live near and took to work (not as bad now I've moved mind). I avoid potholes etc so it's not like I drive in to everything, but just general old bumpy roads, speed bumps, country lanes etc, all horrible in my car now :( As for V1's, I can't really comment not having owned any but from what Kev's told me, they're the same feel as my Weitecs ie hard (std german 400lb 'sporty' springs and fixed damping), although they will undoubtably be better quality and most likely rebuildable, not sure tbh. -

I'd take you out in mine but they're just so past it now that the ride is horrendous! -

IIRC you have said in the past the roads around you aren't the best? If that's the case I wouldn't go for the Weitecs personally, they're a hard ride and mine are fcuked after 3 years. I'm currently looking at GAZ's as they are similar money at ~£500 probs a bit more than the Weitecs but they have adjustable dampening and you can choose the spring rates rather than just being given uber hard 400lb german ones for that "sporty" feel  Just my 2 pence :salute: -
I insured mine with Brentacre last year for ~£900 fully comp, 12k miles a year, agreed value of about £5.5k, all mods declared, power capped at 250bhp (ish ). I was 23 with 4 years ncb. R32 though so probs not relevant. Hopefully it goes down a bit this year at 24 with 5 years ncb, but knowing most insurance companies it will most likely go up!

Good work :salute: Will be keeping my eyes on this thread for sure. White wheels are very in now too, I fecking love my Rota's! 8)

Pete tried that with it on the car after I first fitted it and it wouldn't budge. I think the best option is to take it off and get it bent properly. I'd rather not go chopping my engine mounts if I can help it, the downpipes should fit right in the first place tbh! I'll put up with it for now (along with everything else!!) whilst I save up a bit and then I think I'm gunna do a bunch of jobs at once. have you already modified the rear engine mount? If not, this should help you out. No I've not modified any of the mounts, sounds like it's worth doing though.

Yeah I find the events like BVF, Stonor, Stamford Hall to be the best as they are a mix of old and new cars and the atmosphere is more laid back and awards are given to the cleanest most original cars not the ones that have just had a cheque book thrown at them by daddy! Shows like GTI, Ultimate Dubs, Edition 38 etc are all about the 'scene' where everyone is like "Look at me I've spent £10k on a set of gold coated wheels and I can let someone in a bodyshop do everything to my car once I hand over a blank cheque!" Some damn nice cars though to be fair
-
Yep, doesn't fit correctly, Pete designed them for a MK2 (which have no fitment issues at all from what Vince was telling me!) and just assumed it would be the same for the Corrado when clearly it's not! As said they are made very well, a lovely looking manifold and Pete is a nice guy. Mine was fouling the exhaust tunnel underneath so I had to angle grind a chunk off, heat up the manifold to try and bend it (which it wouldn't), changed engine mounts etc but my exhaust still sits sh*t and knocks/rattles when hot. Makes driving the car daily really annoying for me :( And there's no chance I'd get the cat back on for the next MOT as it would be pushed against the side of the tunnel.
