  1. The KR one is red and the 9A one is grey, it is longer due to the spacer fitted in the 9A sump.
  2. It's just a Golf 2 rad and GSF keep Flusser brand and Valeo produce a nice piece but it is avaialble from lots of companies.
  3. You can't get a cork gasket for a 16v and if you could, they would be as cr@p as they are on the 8v. Check the cover isn't distorted but what you describe makes me think you have a leaking cam seal.
  4. If the block has to come out, just fit a VW exchange unit, £1013.72 inc. VAT.
  5. Did he replace the bolt (N903 208 02) and tighten it up using the correct tool number 3099 and to the correct torque of 90 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °) further with oiled threads and shoulder? The damage to the end of the crank can be repaired in about half an hour without removing the engine if you have access to the special tool.
  6. You are missing the slotted nut (811 412 365) which goes in the middle of the top mount instead of the washer and nut you have there.
  7. 535 199 315 E only fits the Corrado VR6.
  8. Have you changed the 109 ECU relay, these are far more prone to failure. If you need new relays, buy them from VW as they are cheap and trustworthy.
  9. 026 906 161, £30.06 inc. VAT. Description 2 pin white M10x1. It isn't shown for a 9A in Corrado; you have to look in Passat.
  10. Have you got the two vac pipes on the back of the throttle body the correct way around?
  11. The Weitec kit is good but the 4 cylinder kit is too low I think. We use the VR6 kit and convert the front top mounts to a mixture of Golf 3 and 4 parts (what we call a comfort kit) and then adjust the rear ride height to match the front. It works very well as I have been importing and fitting these for over ten years. I will give you a 10% discount off the normal retail as a Corrado forum member. You get a very comprehensive set of instructions with this kit when bought from us, specifically detailing how to fit it.

    Slight rattle

It can't pink when stopped but G60 con rod bearings are very prone to wear. They are easy to change in situ (the nuts and bolts must also be changed) and I prefer to use KS bearings. It is rare that the crank is damaged but this is easy to check when doing the bearings. Always fit a new oil pump.
  13. TD lower rod bearings are Sputter coated like the G60 bearings although bizarrely VW no longer differentiate between G60 and 16v.
  14. Use Kunifer 10 which is 3/16" or 4.75-mm if I remember well but if you go to a factors just ask for brake pipe and M10x1sw11 metric ends.
  15. I find that the Koni's give the best ride quality.

    mk2 fuel line

A few pounds for removing it, they hardly ever sell. Beware there are different types depending on the base car.
  17. You mean you have snapped off the filter drain plug or the main plastic section?
  18. I think you may be looking at some engine damage from that overheat if it was bad enough to cause the oil pressure warning light to come on, did the beeper come on?

    Hose Question

Just did a G4 TDI today that needed a new front hose (a twat of a mechanic at my local VW dealer had pushed the hose into the redundant pad wire location and then crushed the clamp into the hose and split it, and also missed two bulged rear hoses, what a knob head) and the banjos were 1.5-mm pitch but I have seen them with 1-mm. Perhaps that is why the new hoses come without banjos?

    Gaz suspension

I have a set for my Mk2 but I haven’t fitted them yet, still staying with my Weitec Hicon TX's. I wasn't that impressed with the build quality though but the proof of the pudding is in the eating and my pudding is gathering dust on the shelf.
  21. Check the basics first, valve and ign timing.

    Head re-build?

Humm, maybe time is not on your side. To be honest, a 1.9 conversion will nearly cost as much as a 2L considering the price of the 83-mm Audi 2.3 20v pistons and all the other parts/work such as boring, piston clearancing for the oil jets, oil pump etc etc. What I advise people to do is go and find a cheap worn out 9A and pull it down to a block and sump but leave on the oil pump drive adapter and front pulley but remove everything else. Then go to VW and exchange it for a recon unit 051 100 103 BX which has just gone up slightly to £1013.72 inc. VAT.

    Head re-build?

If it ain't broke don't fix it. It is likely that the exhaust guides are shot but unlikely that the bottom end would last another 100K so you would be pulling it off again. If it is quiet and not smoking, don't touch it. The gains from just gas flowing a KR head don't justify the expense. Save up for a 9A conversion and gas flowed head.
