    engine referb?

Chrishill, as long as your not altering the original engine spec, I wouldn't worry about the insurance, and I'd get the head polished while your doing it, unless the company strip the engine they won't know, and even with just a polished head they'd be hard pushed to tell. P.S. Stevemac, who you insured with??, that 250bhp policy sounds good

    engine referb?

Granted I have 4yrs NCB, but when I first got it I was just 20 and only had 2yrs NCB and still then it was only £1250 (only  ). Just thought your's was a bit steep. If you need the number for my company just to see what they would qoute you, I'll post it on.

    engine referb?

That's well high! I'm with performance direct and it's £1050 with my mods TPFT. I'm 23 with 4 years NCB
  4. I've got the concept 300 on mine, and yep in the 3 yaers it's been on, it's given me the odd headache. I've just had the bonnet pin changed on mine due to the same problem. Try spraying it with WD40, this worked on mine for a year but I had to go and get it replaced the other week. The fitter told me it's a common problem with C's and golfs. Go to the fitter and tell him to sort it, I'm sure clifford have a lifetime warreny??
  5. I only live 3.5 miles away from work, but I still manage to clock up about 250 miles a week. I like having fun with my car
  6. I'm really interested in one of these too.
  7. I've just come off the phone with my broker. I was asking about how much my primium would go up after I made some mods (X-flow head and custom inlet manifold) and the company asked if I was thinking of using the car for shows, to which I replied yes. The company who my cover is through have come back to my broker and said the mods increase the primium by £47, bargain I thought, But wait!!They also said that because I might show it they will only insure me third party only?? I wouldn't mind, but I'm paying £1200TPFT now So that's an extra £47 for less cover??? Even my Broker laughed at this! My policy runs out in Jan and by then I'll be 23 and have 5years NCB. So guess who's spending loads on mods now thanks to a beautifull bank loan and waiting till January to put them on and not going with the same insurance company   Don't you just love insurance
  8. I'm 23 at the end of the month First car was an XR2 at 17 Insurance was £1500 TPFT I kept that for 6 months. 2nd was a Immaculate Lhasa Green Mk1 1.8L GTi I was only the 3rd owner, I must have put about £4k's worth of blood sweat and tears modding it. Got the whole engine balanced and re-built, and wish I still had it in a way but I sold it Jan 2001 for £2400 Then I got the 'Rado at 20 Yes the insurance was and still is well over a grand!! But that's what you get for having fast cars I suppose

    Full Respray

Cheers for the replies. I'm not too clued up on bodywork and spraying so that's why I asked for you lots opinion. From what you have al said the price does seem to be reasonable so I'll bare it in mind. I was thinking of getting it done asap, but I'm going to sort the engine first and save some more money to throw at the bottomless pit that is my loveble C!!

    Full Respray

I want it spraying the original White, nothing fancy. The price I was quoted on was for a nigh on full restoration, I'm not sure the car needs it, but atleast I'l know that if I pay that sort of money it will last (Famous last words!). It's just a I'm finding it a little hard to get to grips with paying £3K for the car to look the same. I'm putting a lot of cash into the engine because I know the kind of difference that will make. The work JBS do is top notch and James, the main man, is a perfectionist, so I know the work will be good. It's just that £3000 bit, no doubt I'll talk myself into it though

I know their work is tip top. It's JBS the same place that did the rarther large welding job for me. I just wanted to make sure that it was a decent quote. If I do decide to go for it I'm gonna wait till after winter. I wasn't initially after a bare metal but that's what I got quoted on. I'm going to some other bodyshops this week to get some more prices so I'll keep you all posted. Darren I'll ring you in a bit Cheers mate
  12. I've just been quoted £2000-£3000 for a full bare metal respray. Just wondered what any of you reckon to this price? Is it a bit on the steep side or worth the money? :?: :?:

    Engine time

Nice one Darren! If I get the loan sorted, I'll give you a call sometime next week to talk things over. I take it your cross-flow conversion is going well? Bolting the parts together isn't much of a problem cos my mate who does all the work is a service manager at a stealers :D He did a top job with my Mk1 engine!

    Engine time

I'd like to keep the G60 engine, and choosing a route is the fun part. The car is hopefully going in for a full re-spray after christmas or near that time, and I plan to get the parts for the engine and get my mate to put it all together around about the same time. And no doubt Darren as soon as my loan gets sorted you'll probably getting a call. The forged pistons you said about are a must!! I'm deff having a 1.9 bottom end, it was the top end I was thinking about. (Cross flow probably, but it's getting hold of a Custom inlet manifold) Also I'm after a Front mounted intercooler. Hopefully with the money I'll be getting, I should have enough to complete my wish list.

    Engine time

I thought about a 20vt when my charger went bang last year. But I got told it would cost about £5k+ for the engine and the fitting. Another thing would be the power, I want atleast 230bhp in which case I'll have to source a TT engine, or tune a golf one. Plus I like the way the power is delivered in the G60 compared to my mates 20vt Golf GTi. But I wouldn't dismiss the idea totally.

    Engine time

I'm off to see my lovely bank manager this weekend to see about a nice hefty bank loan, to finish my beast once and for all, or untill I see something else I want to put on it  Hopefully I'll have about £3k to spend on engine bits. Do you folk reckon this will get me some decent power?? Cheers peeps RACK

    SNS and 3.5bar FPR

Thanks for the advice. I'll get my engine list complete and then order the chip. Hopefully if I can get the bit's I'm after it should be ready to go in just before christmas.

    SNS and 3.5bar FPR

From what I can gather, the Jabba chip runs rich too, and due to working away alot, I still haven't had the car on the rollers yet. I'm trying to build up a decent stash of part for the planned engine rebuild I've got in mind, I've got a few parts already but I'm still deciding on a final spec. It's deff having a 1.9 bottom end, but I'm having a dilema choosing the head, it's either having a ported and cam'd PG or I'm going down the cross-flow route. I know that as soon as the new engine goes in, I'm either going to have to get a new chip or get the old one re-mapped. Would it be better to wait till the engine is built up before ordering the chip??

    SNS and 3.5bar FPR

Thanks beavis. I've been running a jabba chip and pulley for about 18 months, so I'm guessing everything is ok, but I'll get my mate to check them out, sometime next week. Could you pm me with a price for the Chip and FPR please? Cheers mate
