:epicfail: .......... or not as the case may be....... but only just by the sounds of it! Looks like a fine collection you've got going in those pics Joe :thumbleft:

Sorry chap, been busy this week and forgot to get those Goodridge part numbers for you. Shall do it as soon as I get in this evening. Quick question though, those calipers in the pic aren't the ones you got off ebay are they? They look more like rears to me, definitely not 288's. Everything else looks correct just the calipers. :?

Well when I eagerly unwrapped the newest edition of Golf+ when I got home this evening it was a welcome surprise to be greeted by a feature about a certain 400bhp VRT Storm owned by a man in Jersey no less...... I wonder who that could be eh? :? Congrats in order to Mr StormchargedVR6 me thinks, looking extremely nice in the pics mate and a really good write up. Inspiration for us all .... "Must do Better!" Only problem being that on the contents page they've listed it as a 400bhp G60.... whoops! Congrats again mate.  :notworthy:

This week I have mostly been listening to - Justice - A Cross the Universe-Live The Autobots - Ends of the Earth Also anything by the PlumpDJ's, Stanton Warriors, Prodigy, Breakspoll etc So having a real funky dance/breaks kind of week. Might head back over to some indie rock next week though... p.s. The Wiley album has some quality tunes on it, unfortunately it also has a fair few shockers as well.

Oh and if you need part numbers etc for the goodridge hoses just let me know and I'll dig them out for you.
-
If you want to go 288mm front brakes you will need: Calipers and carriers, probably easiest from a mk3 golf (VR/16V/ some other later cars), then you'll need suitable discs/pads (so again golf VR/late 16v etc) which are easy to get from places like GSF. Then you'll also need a set of goodridge hoses for a late golf VR or 16v. Take the old stuff off, put the new stuff on and flush/bleed brake fluid. This needs to be done on a pressure system so either ezibleed or at a garage. Or the rear you'll need a set of mk2 to mk4 conversion hoses from Goodridge and then its a straight swap from corrado to mk4 rear calipers (both run the same discs and pads. The reason you have to use the capliers and carriers rather keeping the standard vr setup is that not only is the diameter of the disc bigger by 8mm, they also sit in a slightly different position and the braking area of the disc is much wider. They say a picture speaks a thousand words so hopefully these pics will make it all clear. First, standard VR setup. They the mighty massive 288 setup from a VR golf Simple...

How about some TT comps? Never seen a pair in black and they're ok weight wise for an OEM wheel. Those A8's look awesome.
-
My new daily is a very fetching pair of clarkes. :?
-
Yeah, Corrado VR brakes are 280mm, Golf VR are 288mm. Unfortunately you can't fit the bigger discs and retain the standard callipers as firstly they don't sit out far enough, and secondly the 288mm discs require a bigger pad and braking area. If you're interested I have a set of nearly new brembo max discs and some mintex extreme pads for a standard Corrado VR. They really improved the braking on my car and I only replaced then when I swapped over to 288mm brakes. I'm sure I can do you a deal if you want (they're only gathering dust in my shed)

I might know someone with a spare VR6 knocking around in a few months if you interested Joe? Sure I can sort some mates rates! :norty: I would say, unfortunately once a car is more than ~5 years this kind of work will be necessary. My missus' mk5 even broke down the other day.... that's why I'm not replacing the Corrado, I'd rather repair that then something else.
-
Bloody hell James, another half arsed job eh? Seriously, looking superb as usual mate. I'll definitely be keen to hear how the new brakes feel as I'm not sure how big discs I want to go on my car and those do look really sweet with your wheels as well. Top work sir. :salute:
-
Glad you've got your airbox worries sorted mate, now the terrible task of selecting wheels! What are the ones in the third pic? If I were you I'd steer clear of the 6 spoke TT's that are in the second pic. They look cool, especially in black, but I used to have a set and they are very very heavy wheels. I'd probably guess at about 1.5 times the weight of the standard speedlines, maybe more.

I see 1 maybe 2 every week, there are loads in Cambridge (at least 6-7 I can think of). But I've given up putting anything in the spotted thread as no one ever seems to be on here......
-
Yeah the muppet built his downpipe, bought it round to see what I thought and I had to point out the obvious. He's going to connect it all up to the downpipe correctly although he did have a good laugh at the scooter silencer idea...... :cuckoo:
-
Cheers Kev, suspected as much. Now I've got to tell me friend he needs to rebuild his down pipe!
-
Nice one mate, can't wait to see pics of the finished product.
-
Carefully get it up on some axle stands so you've got the driven wheels off the ground and try to see what's actually going on under there. If once you've selected a gear and let the clutch out nothing is moving still or it isn't obvious then I'd suspect some form of gearbox problem. The fact it doesn't matter what gear you select I would be thinking something clutch/diff related unfortunately :( Does the clutch pedal feel strange at all, you sure it's engaging correctly?
-
Quick Q, Anyone know what the legal position on running a screamer pipe (open wastegate) is here in the UK?
-
That sounds like the one, you should have 2 seals (1 between block and cooler, 1 between cooler and oil cap) and much like the cap on the oil filter housing it doesn't need to be overly tight. Might be worth having another look at it to make sure nothing has cracked if you've given it to much righty tighty!
-
Should be done up to 25Nm (18ft lb's) if you mean the Oil cooler cover.
-
Ok Kev, Yes you bloody can! The techtonics on mine is stock quiet at cruise with a lovely deep note if you put ya foot down, but you just get a nice low burble at idle. I can also vouch for the fact that Kevs (identical system) is even quieter! Not cheap though, with current exchange rates and delivery you're looking at about £670. Luckily I got mine when it was still £1=$2. Anyway, back on topic! As for delivery, can't see why it would be a problem as long as it's well packaged. I'd agree with delfinis38 and get the purchaser to organise a courier as then it's his own fault if something goes awol, plus I doubt you'd have any problems at this end and it'll be easier for him to sort at the spanish end.
-
Yes, from after the cat backwards the standard VR system weighs in at a hefty 21kg. I weighed mine when I replaced it with my techtonics (9kg).
-
That SuperDuke is gorgeous! I've been for a test ride on a 675 and I loved it, but I'll definitely have to take it easy for the first few months and get some miles under my belt before I'd be able to use it to anywhere near it's full potential.
-
Any chance you can get it on VAG-Com mate? Might not be the sensor but the wiring?
-
 Yeah I know, I'm terrible at getting these idea's in my head and then thinking about loads of other stuff as well! I'm sure there is room in my life for a VRT, Daytona 675, and a nice mk4 golf as a daily......... Nice looking CBR moneypit23, my first bike (ER-5) was no where near as sporty.
