  1. Any chance of some more pics of the engine install?
  2. Only just noticed this thread, always meant to look at your post after seeing the superduke in your avatar. Having read it I must say its my favourite car on the forum at the moment. :notworthy: Love the wheels, love the engine conversion, just nothing wrong if you ask me. Congrats sir!
  3. Hats off to you Monkey Man, some good work there. I did my wishbones in situ and it was a PITA! You seem like you've tamed the beast now though. The mount is a mess, bet the car felt shite out on the road before you started all this work?
  4. Weird thing is, I haven't aged a day since 1976..
  5. Bottle? Damn! I thought it was the lack of Otters... :(
  6. Gearbox! ..... Engine!...... Don't give me any clues, I'll get it in a minute.....
  7. Bang on Karl, buy a decent VR for about £2500 and whack a low mile 24v in it...... now that sounds like a plan I could entertain!
  8. Funny man! Sorry :( I take it back.... I didn't think before I typed....
  9. Personally, my opinion only (so please don't flame me  ), I think that is not the way to look at it. VR6's are expensive to fix, but I wouldn't say it was any worse than any of the other models. Get a good one, keep up the maintenance etc, and it'll run forever. The thing with the VR is that it is a very accomplished machine, and some have been driven at the limit without having care taken of them. Mine has now done 135,000 miles and when I took it apart recently it has slightly stretched chains, had a broken guide, dodgy tensioner, and noisey tappets...... but it was still pulling 195bhp and 185 lb/ft at the last rolling road day. But I spend money taking care of it, and most of the expensive stuff I've done is out of choice rather than need. I've also seen four pots that have had a small fortune spent on them and they still don't run quite right. If you're worried about having a car that'll run day in day out and you don't need to worry about it, buy a Kia Cee'd with a nice 7 year warranty  Ha! Rubbish. I've never heard of a VR breaking down due to the injection system.
  10. Yeah but I thought I'd spice it up a bit. Its not like this subject hasn't been covered once or twice.... What about the 24v?
  11. Quality, I was wondering who would mention in first!
  12. Don't know about best, but my fav engine in the Ford Hemi 427 SOHC V8 engine. Made famous in the 1960 for being immensly powerful even without modifications (something like 650bhp straight from the factory), and in various sizes powering the Shelby Cobra and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Mmm V8 rumble!
  13. Was looking very well in the flesh during the Karmann trip, didn't realise how much work you've done to it recently. Fair play mate! :salute:
  14. Looking good mate, Carleena a bit more used to the rideheight now?
  15. Looking good mate, black and white theme will look very well. 8)
  16. Also like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thankyou to everyone who has helped me sort all this stuff over the past few months, you know who you all are  Whether it has been help in person, help on the phone, or advice on the forum and loads of emails etc I can only say how impressed I am with all the people I've met on this forum and I'd bet there isn't another vw forum that is so friendly and helpful. Only hope I get the chance to repay the favours by help all you guys out in the future, plus those that are going to Germany there is a beer coming your way, and those not going may have some Karmann related souveniers(sp) coming your way! Many thanks again, we're not worthy!!! we're not worthy!!! :notworthy: :notworthy:
  17. well just got a chance to sit down for a little update..... long weekend and long week so far, but ultimately worth it. Saturday, with the help of a couple of handsome forum members we fitted some new rear axle bushes... finally! Made a huge difference and the car now feels completely planted with no more skipping coming from rear on bumpy A-roads :D 8) Sunday, a quick wash and wax ready for the run over to Karmann, although I guess I'll have to do it all again once we get there as I'd hate to show up the rest of the forum with my dirty motor  Monday, mrbeige assisted in modifying and fitting a headlight loom purchased off ebay. Decided that I wanted it completely removable if needs be so adjusted a couple of connectors and added a few items to get the old and new looms to run in harmony. Has made a huge difference as about 50% brighter, but highlighted that something was up with one of the headlamp and the headlight aim is off.... :brickwall: Tonight, repair passenger side head lamp (reflector had come away from the left/right adjuster stalk) and set headlamp aim. Test drive and the light are like a brand new car, 100% better than they were and feel a lot more confident in driving to Karmann safely now :D All if got left to do is pack the car up and I'm ready to go! Yay!  Hope everyone else is excited.
  18. The masking in the pic looks correct to me. The lamp in the picture is the drivers side lamp so the current masked area will be the area that directs the beam from centre towards the left (as you look out from behind the drivers seat) which is the part that will dazzle in europe, the other wedge is for directing the beam to the right, which is fine to be left. That beside, I don't think it'll matter if you mask down to the bottom or not. I'll just be masking the area embossed on my lamps rather than per the pics shown

    Headlight Loom

Good call on that site Dec, very informative and really good wiring diagram. Even I can understand it!

    Headlight Loom

Ha! wondered how long it would take. Must admit I had a bit of fun deciding where to put it originally, but figured the lights were exterior but the loom itself is engine bay.
  21. Must say I like them, one of the very few BMW's I'd actually buy.

    Headlight Loom

Cheers for the info guys. Critical Mass, sorry mate but I'm rubbish with electrics so have no idea what could be wrong with yours David, tried new bulbs etc but to no avail. I'm going to get all the aims checked to see if that makes a difference but I'm not holding out much hope. I'd love to build one based on OEM connectors but I wouldn't know where to start or where to get the parts. g60karmann, there were a couple of people that do the wiring looms but I think they've stopped now and a list of parts/suppliers would be great if there is one

    Headlight Loom

Anyone bought and fitted one of these? Ebay Loom Any good? Easy to Fit? etc etc If these are any good they might be purchased as I don't feel like driving all the way to Karmann with my current headlights.
  24. I'm on as well! yay! good job guys, the new site is looking excellent. Now time to fill that forum with Ham & Cheese!
