The more I look at them the more I fancy a bit of banding is in order, plus I've had a few PM's about a company called wide-wheels which I will be giving a quick call about them as they are able to test them properly...... Unfortunately they will have to stay exactly as they are until after the trip to Karmann in a few weeks :?
-
As in the whole wheel hub or hub caps? The audi will be 5x112 so might be tricky to fit to a VR...... not 100% sure though....
-
Oh I do like those, who's car is that. Thought I was being original running a VR with steelies! :(
-
Well what can I say, some of those Corsa's look..... interesting..... but I do like the look of the banded steels. Like Mr Deviant knows I did send mine away but I wasn't happy with the fact they weren't able to pressure test them anymore to ensure they were safe (and legal) to use on the road. Without that I'm really not happy risking it, I quite like my life! Wheels = £40, Tyres = £130, Fitted & Balancing = £30, Reaction from the missus after fitting = priceless! (she does not like... ) Speedlines will be sent away for a refurb after christmas, original silver or a slightly darker gun metal grey? Glad to see that overall people aren't to offended by them, I love the simplicity of them so I think they'll be staying as is for the time being. Only thing I do need to do is sort some spacers as I've gone from the 205/50 profile to 195/45 profile tyres so the wheels could do with coming out a few mm to fill the arches a little better, nothing crazy but a little bit. Also, anyone got any ideas about covers to stop water/dirt getting into the front wheel hub/bearing assembly? (I have actually got the plastic wheel covers that came with the steels......)

I know, gutted the banding was a non starter, might see what other companies will do it and look into it again. Someone else suggested breaking it up a bit with a little colour on lip..... hmm, might have to get someone to photochop it! :?

I'm sure everyone will be dissappointed if you don't bring that Tool along..... :camp:

Cheers for the feedback guys, I knew they wouldn't be to everyones taste but glad at least some people like them and I like the slight 'evil' look it gives the car! :D A very helpful otter at that! Cheers Dave, I'm trying to get my own hands dirty doing some of these jobs but also really lucky and appreciative that I've been able to call on the help of some of the forum members, including yourself  I'll throw some tools in my boot, but I hope not! This weekend is the last I'm spending on corrados, I'm exhausted, and seem to be going a little bit mental. :( Glad she's behaving, and that you're happy. Ha! not a chance mate, the only thing going on next saturday will be eating and drinking. You can safely leave your tools at home. Yep really happy with it at the moment, took it out for another spin this morning and still really impressed with the pull with the cams in. Just can't wait to sort the rear axle bushes now and get it over to the 'ring! 8)

Next weekend eh? Coming to help do my water pump are ya? Everything else on the car is running fine, looking forward to getting the last few things sorted ready for the Karmann trip next weekend and it'll be like a new car!
-
Yep, 16x6.5J (off a 2005 Beetle TDi) with 195/45 Goodyear Eagle F1's. The way I figure it they'll be fine until I find some fancy wheels I like and my speedlines were losing air all the time after a few years being bashed about by various owners. Glad you like!

Well I'm not sure what people are going to think of these but since I haven't been able to find any alloys I like I've decided to go a bit more.... old skool.... Originally I was going to band these, and even sent them away to get done, but having seen a set done and after conversations with the company about the trouble they were having getting them pressure tested and legalised I decided I'll run them as vw intended. As far as I can tell they don't weigh anymore than the original speedlines and they drive fine, I'm going to put some spacers on the rears to fill the arch's a bit better but the fronts seem fine. Honest opinions please people, :D

I'd guess at wiring mate. The senders for oil pressure/temp etc are mounted on to of the oil filter housing, I'd check that a wire hasn't snapped and that's why you're not getting a reading.

Congrats on the new purchase mate, you guys sure love the Corrado! :luvlove:

Maybe we should start a thread 'Kev vs Physics'

I was waiting for someone to say it, but it is a fair point. Sort the bushes and the suspension parts, fit supercharger, remap and some 288 brakes and all of a sudden you've got a 300bhp engine in one of the best fwd chassis' ever built. All this, including buying a good VR6 to start with, will cost about £9K (less if you're doing the work yourself) and you've got one incredible car, get to Mr Cheesewires stage and who ever you're racing will need something with serious power to keep up let alone smoke you. Stick with the VR6, don't become a sheep! :nono:
-
Also, To do the whole lot you'll need all 6 lines. 2 fronts, 2 mids and 2 rears. The kit i ordered was for a late, post '95, VR6 Golf and part no from Goodridge is SVW0604-6

Jon, if it helps mate my father is bringin over some parts I've left at their place (including my old rear calipers) so I might have an answer for you by Thursday. I'll keep you updated chap. :)

That truly is the worst thing i have even seen done to two classic cars How did they think it would ever line up, a corrado is only about a foot wider than a mk1 golf! Fcuking Muppets! :bad-words:
-
Hell yeah, that'll look awesome! Plus once you get it up and running and you're able to drive it again you'll feel completely different. Victory!
-
As the above have said, just get on with it! :D You've got my number if you need a hand getting it ready for the MOT.
-
Yeah all the forum members I've met have been really helpful, I try to keep it going by being helpful as well! :smug:  I didn't do the rear discs and bearings this time as I only did them a little while ago, if you're doing your rear make sure you factor in a bit of time to get the races for the rear bearings pressed in. I took it all off then couldn't get the new races in so had to put all the old stuff back on and try again another day...

It's amazing how much difference the 288's and Goodridges have made, highly recommend it as a mod and feeling much more confident to take it on the ring now. I'll take you out for a spin in it as soon as you're feeling better chap!

And Secondly the cams and gearbox. HUGE thanks to Mr Toad for giving up a whole weekend to work on my car, even with his bad foot! And to Dinkus for sourcing some parts for me and letting me steal a Chain guide out of his set when we found mine had snapped. Again, pics are kind of in order although I didn't get many shots of the engine out/cams/guides part as it was getting a little to close for comfort as to whether I was going to make it home on sunday or not! So take a nice whole car, and just start removing stuff! It's at this point that we realised that my engine wiring loom has been butchered by some cowboy and we had to remove all the wiring from the engine inorder to remove it, all good fun! :? Replacment gearbox New cams fitted and timed up ready to go! We found a nice big crack in one of the chain guides whilst doing the cams but luckily Dinkus had some emergency parts that I could steal. Then you simply put in all back together again, Easy! Glad to say that the gearbox is a beauty, thanks nemesis360, and the car now shifts as smooth as silk. As for the 263 cams, it's not a night and day difference (not had a remap yet) but I'm definitely getting a wider spread of power and the car is feeling a lot more urgent in the 2500-3000rpm range. Fuel wise it's not made much difference, still getting over 30mpg and I've been driving a bit harder than usual in it... so overall extremely pleased with them :D Unfortunately we did find a few issues that we didn't have the time/parts to fix, including a really worn tensioner guide and my chains have stretched putting the timing out just a fraction, a bit of rust on the cross member, a tiny tiny leak from the water pipe in the oil cooler, my aux water pump is shot and the serp belt had seen better days....... but thankfully most of this is easy to put right and I'll be doing some more work on it over the next few weekend. Phew!

Well after a busy couple of weeks I thought I'd better update my thread for what I've been doing to VR. Firstly brakes - Replacing fronts with 288's and EBC Redstuffs, replacing rears with mk4 calipers, and fitting Goodridges all round. Pics from Start to finish. Sorry I'd already put the wheels back on :) Mucho thanks go out to everyone who offered help and advice, especially Supercharged for lending me some tools and for a couple of phonecalls :notworthy:

Do certain car brands/makes attract a certain kind of person
mic_VR replied to Jay2's topic in General Car Chat
Does that mean the faster you go Kev the balder you'll get? Best keep it below 400bhp then mate! Obviously different cars attract different types of people, the subaru groups are probably moaning on a thread about some vw meet they went to and how everyone was in board trainers and a hoodie! -
