10 yrs on and I still don't want any other car
John-M replied to storm_warning's topic in General Car Chat
I've had my VR for 11 years now, one previous owner. 170k+ miles and the engine was rattly, burned oil and fouled the usual plugs. What do do ? I looked around, made more than one shortlist - then realised I didnt really want to get rid of the C. So, I costed an engine rebuild. Hmmm, not cheap. Then this 4Motion 24v engine came along ... ... I'm now gradually going through the whole car, replacing bits that are approaching their sell-by date. It'll be 'good as new' one of these days :) Interesting words about the Recaro seats, A1 - might be worth looking at. I was a little tempted by the Mazda RX8, but sense prevailed ! -
OK, well, three questions ! 1. What might cause high CO readings on the MOT emissions report sheet ? Assume engine / oil temperatures is OK 2. What would be the effect, in terms of emissions readings, of a CAT beginning to fail ? 3. Is there anywhere on the net that gives an underatandable explanation of the various emissions test results ? If anyone can help I'd be grateful

I hope I'm still on Andy's list ... ...

Does anyone know whether tyre prices in Germany are higher or lower than in the UK ? I need new ones, and will be in Germany for a week v soon. Is it worth looking around over there ?? France as well, for that matter, as I'll be spending a couple of days there.

So how old do you have to be to look a 'little silly'....

I'm 63 and I still drive the C every day - at least I will when I get it back from it's 24v conversion :) -
Thanks - but does HD foam have the same sound deadening properties as the oe felt stuff ??
-
Well, I'm underwhelmed at the response to this - I'm looking at this same subject right now, due to a water leak into the interior soaking large areas of the under-carpet and bulkhead sound proofing/deadening stuff. If I find any decent suppliers I'll post info here.

I hope I'm already on the list - have posted a couple of 'Please can I have.....' messages. But if I fell off somehow, please put me back on - for an all-singing plug n play version (ignore comments I made earlier about having the battery moved !) Ta. John

I may be a wee bit biased, but my take on this is :- The Corrado is a modern classic, the Golf is ... ... well, a Golf. A pretty damn good one, mind - but still a Golf. I was at the point a while ago when I decided I had to either replace the VR6 or spend some serious money on it. I ummed and arred for a while, then realised there wasn't that much under 25K that I really fancied so i decided to do the VR up. Then this 4motion engine came up for sale. That's the route I'm taking. :) Don't know if this help's. John

A while ago I remember reading what I think was someone's 'signeture' that went along the lines of :- There are those Corrado owners who regret selling their C when they didnt relly need to and there are those ppl who regret not buying a Corrado when they could have done. Summed things up pretty well I thought Does anyone know what the full text was, or who it was ?? -
There you go :- Black --- Momentary White -- Middle Red ---- Latched Hope that helps. J

Each of the three wires is coloured Black :( So I guess an amount of 'experimenting' will be necessary ! Good luck

Has this thread died ?? Anyone heard from Andy recently ??
-
I have the same alarm, will get some pics tommorow (Friday) Or do you need wire colours and position ???

After a short period of only working intermittently, my sunroof motor seems to have given up the ghost. The s/roof itself works fine, using the allen key it will tilt/slide/close ok but not ‘electrically'. When it’s in a ‘partially open' position the motor ‘clicks’ when any of the three buttons are pressed, so clearly juice is getting to the motor, but nothing happens. Any ideas, anyone ? Can the motor be refurbished/repaired/serviced ?? Any/all advice welcomed.

I have the same problem - slow to retract - on driver's and passenger's side, but my impression is that its a problem with the belt being 'sticky' and not going smoothly through the slot on the bodywork. I've been meaning to have a go at cleaning up the belts - not sure which upholstery cleaner to use tho.
-
Andy, I'm interested in one too - see my PM today. Thanks

I've had a good read of the wiki article on retumbling door locks - but does anyone know if this technique can be applied to the boot lock and also to the ignition barrel/lock ??
-
Just had a look at mine - '95 VR - there is no wire running alongside the ABS sensor wire, so it looks as if there 'was' something that your wire attached to that isnt there now!
-
On mine, ABS works - you can feel it test ok when you switch-on by having your foot on the brake - but my warning light is duff. Dread to think what the dealer wants for just a new light. £20 or so ???
