Thanks Kev - I'll have a go :) I take it that the C uses the Golf Mk2 mount ?

I am in the process of refurbishing a set of 288 brakes - new seals, guide bushes, de-rusting etc. I dont know how many others have done this job, but one difficulty seemed to be in removing the piston from its housing - easy to push it in, but a more difficult job to remove it altogether. How to do it ( only possible if you have a brake line that can be butvhered and discarded) :- Acquire a tyre valve - a friendly tyre dealer may provide one at little or no cost. Cut the brake line squarely and neatly Force the tyre valve onto the brake line so it seals well - it should be a reasonably good air-tight fit Attach a footpump to the valve Apply pressure - slowly and evenly. This will force the piston out - but make sure it has somewhere safe to fall out onto, and it may pop out 'fast' and suddenly if you put much pressure into the brake line ! And make sure you have an absorbant rag to hand if there is any brake fluid remaining in the piston housing. Hope that helps anyone doing this job- if a pic might help, just ask.

My front engine mount appears to be in need of replacement - excessive movement is 'seeable' :( There appears to be much mention of upgrading this mount to a TT/R32 one - but is it practical to upgrade just the one mount. rather than all of them ?? Does the upgraded mount add any/much noise/vibration - or is it an upgrade with little or no downside ? And now a practical question - is it possible to change this mount with just trolley jack and axle stands - or is it a garage job ? And can it be done without taking the bumper etc off ?? Any/all advice and guidance will be much appreciated. Oh, and any input from fellow 24V owners is particularly welcome.

That seems to corroborate with stories I've heard about R32 chains going twang. How many miles has this lump done? Does the 2.8l 24V engine have this same 'characteristic' ??

I seem to recall that the L Carlton had a top speed of 186 mph. I'll see if I can find the magazine where I read that - it's up in the loft somewhere !
-
I very nearly bought a Lotus Carlton a few years back. A guy I know was selling it and I had a test drive - acceleration and brakes were just awesome ( much overused word, but totally apt in this case ). I decided against it, and in one way have always regretted it - but I had realised that it simply had so much more performance than I could justify 'needing'. Oh well ... ... ... Spares and servicing, even in this country, are always going to be a problem - so what it'd be like in Italy I have no idea. Great car though - and rare as the proverbial rocking-horse manure !!

'They look gash' ???? I think they look so much better that the oem wipers - but I guess it's all a matter of personal taste :)

Kev, I never suspected, lol.

Does anyone know of any 'secret computer' functions that the 24V ECU has ??
-
Don't forget - she also knows Html :)

A question for the electronic wizards on here - something I've wondered about for years :- I grasp the concept of the 'code' changing each time you use it - but how do the emitter and reciever keep in step ? What happens if I press the button on my 'key' when I'm nowhere near the car ? Wont the key change its code, but the reciever will still be expecting the code the key just used ?? I can see how the concept works in a two-way handshake method, as in computer networking, but not where the two devices are not two-way. Can anyone educate me ??

Interesting image ;) Fascinating project - and so much scope for more once it's up and running. Great work.

Ah, ok. I blame it on the light, lol. Don't remember how much I paid for the set via the group buy, but I'm sure it was less than what you quote above.
-
Not at all ;) I always had a good stereo in the car when I was younger, but these days I like my music where I can concentrate on listening - and can drift off in a haze of nostalgia. Not the best thing to do in the car, I don't want to be like the guy in 'A Day in the Life' * - ' ... ... he blew his mind out in a car, he didn't notice that the lights had changed.' * Btw, I bought the album (vinyl, of course) in the month that it was originally released, June 1967. And I drove across 'that' zebra crossing more times than I can remember :)

I'm tempted to say that the sound of 24 valves is music enough - but I'll resist :)
-
Did I read somewhere that the Passatt ESTATE is the model to go for as a donar car ??
-
All this talk of music is making me want to put a radio back in the car !!
-
Yes, I did. DOH, as Homer would say !! Thanks :) Earlier post now edited.

I think there is more than one type of TT arm - some have that type of fitting, while some don't. But my blades seem to match your description. Sorry can't be of more help than that. :(
-
My 'passenger' wiper blade is from a Passat, but I'm not sure what my 'driver' blade is - it came as part of the 'Lupo' Group Buy kit. BUT, remember that my arms are Lupo ones, not TT ones. Sorry if I'm causing any conflict or anguish in this 'TT Wipers' thread, lol. The Part numbers for my arms are - 6X2 955410C. Same for both Driver's and Passenger's side. My driver's blade is - 6X2955426A. My passenger's blade is - 1J2955426B ( part number corrected ) Hope this helps anyone still on the old C wipers.

I dont think that these keys are specific to each installation - so a Clifford dealer may be able to supply you one.
-
You can always turn the alarm off - not with the valet switch, I mean on the siren housing itself, using the silver coloured key.
-
Fla - have you checked to see if it might be a 'weld' thats coming adrift - I know that such a situation can sound like a 'ping'. Just a thought. Dubguy - I'd be very interested to hear about how you get on with fitting Recaros to a C seat sub-frame. I recently bought a pair of Recaros, from a Mitsubishi Evo 2, and am therefore wanting to do the very same thing that you describe. Any tips, warnings, pics etc would be much appreciated.

It will complain like mad - i.e. it will alarm itself and lock everything, even if you had it in Valet mode when you left it. So - do not leave the keys in the car with the doors closed when you re-connect the battery. You WILL get locked out. As a local garage found out when they were doing some work on my car which needed the battery disconnected. Grrrrr

I'll look at the part numbers and post here tomorrow. The end clips - yes, interesting. They come off 'easily' on one of my blades - just grip the clip and pull it off, smoothly, not jerkily. But the other blade seems more reluctant to let the clips go. Strange.
