  1. Are they definitely coilovers and not just a spring + shock package? Coilovers should have the threaded body to adjust height. I suspect you have the basic spring + package in which you can just resuse the existing spring plate and those are just worn mounts.
  2. I used this guide when I did mine. Never been in about the guts of a VR before but it was all relatively straight forward , just double check timing and make sure everything goes back where it should. Oh and try and get a spare cam wheel as the one on the rear bank is really tight. http://mk2vr6.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=559&hilit=replace+chains
  3. Ive got a 4in filter of my old VRT and I replaced it with a Jetex one so they are availabe. The C2 MAF and chip that was in my old car was really good but I did have a bit of an issue come MOT time with emissions even though the spark plugs suggested the car ran good. Keep at it.
  4. 33yrs old (34 very soon) :( On my 7th one now, owning them on and off since 2000. I do plan to keep this one though.
  5. Ive got them, very good for the money. No ride issues and seemed to be well made.

    18's, too big?

Thats like push up bra's, its false advertising!!!
  7. Sounds like a good one. Ive had two and they are the best all round Mk4. As you say they are not going for much now but I think they are brilliant. Mk5 chassis is a decent step up and I really liked my Mk5 Gti as well. Fettling the Mk4 suspension and a remap will make a much better car. Overall the Mk5 Gti is a better car but is it twice the price better than yours, I dont really think it is. MPG wise you are probably only 5mpg worse of in the 4mo as well.
  8. Gave the car its first proper run in a month or so but only to pack it up with all my spares, rear seat had a few more bits and did not put the spare crossmember or suspension in either. Its now a rolling Corrado warehouse. Im going to be looking for a decent cover to use as there seems to be quite a few cat paw marks on the car + it keeps prying eyes away from car. Any suggestions?
  9. Yeah, he sums it up perfectly. Its like a Corrado, they have thier flaws but there is just something about them. Was looking at the alcantara wheels after that but again RS tax means they are £300 or there abouts. Would love those front seats though.
  10. Its not as much of a barge as you would think either in the corners.
  11. Thanks, it really is an awesome car. Id use it everyday if it didnt do 20mpg and ruin it. Wheels are 9x18 MO6 ET20 with Continental 255/35/18's. I ordered them as standard ones are expensive, heavier, bend, hard to replace and just to be a little different. The RS just has so many tuning options its hard not to go for it. Everything is silly money which does reign me in. I was looking at 3in Wagner downpipes but all in with ECU map its was close to £1500. They do some really nice upgraded intercoolers for £2000, generic brake upgrades are £1000 minimum etc etc to give you an idea. Corrado's are cheap as chips in the real world!!!
  12. DSG, not a fan. It works and works well but I need a stick to play with and a clutch pedal. Its the real world comment that makes most sense to me to be honest, pretty much what I thought.
  13. Lovin the Beemer, its a great drive and good thing is it does feel quite slow (even though it isnt) so when I jump in the RS4 it feels ballistic. Took the Corrado for a quick run last weekend and still feels tight, keep having thoughts about doing things to it whilst its sitting but I dont wantto loose the soildness this one seems to have. Anyway true to form I have some new wheels for the Beemer and Audi. I just cant help myself.
  14. How are you finding the car now after using it for a while compared to the VRT? With mine effectively being off the road Im wondering about doing a proper project on it.
  15. Out of interest how much was the Nato strap? One of my straps has just broken and I was looking at a replacment, this would fit the bill. Oh and Speedmaster Pro Moon is the one for me.
  16. So is that the Nato strap on it or is that the one in the bag? Do like my Seiko's.
  17. You described it well there, effortless speed is what these things are all about. 4wd is a very good thing to have.
  18. Not anytime soon!! Ive hardly used the thing in the last month due to rear calipers issues. Seems even the RS models still suffer from the god old sticky calipers.
  19. Good luck to them. Its a good time of year to do it, I helped my brother when he did a few years back in winter. It was misreable. Once did Ben Nevis 4 times in a weekend so they will be sore!!
  20. Well the Corrado is going into retirement. Ive been using it as a daily for the last couple of months and its starting to suffer bodywise. Plan was to get something cheap to replace for daily duites but that changed a little as you can see below. Corrado is going on a classic policy and will be limted to 1500miles a year so it will still get run, just not into the ground. I do intend on keeping this one. New daily is a 120d M-sport. Pick it up on Thr evening. Really nice car to drive and feels so much better than an equivalent Golf. Ticks a lot of boxes. Looking forward to some tractor diesel slides. RS has been parked up with rear brake issues but that should be sorted soon.
  21. Watch you dont fall in, I predict a big hole!!!! First thing I did when I got my car was clean out that area. Even after powerwashing it was crazy the amount of dirt that was still trapped in it. It should be done at least once a year I reckon.
  22. Im averaging 26mpg in very similar commute driving with the VR. 20mpg in the RS. Aberdeen is a bloody joke for traffic!!
