    We like to mix it up a little bit. Keep you on your toes. Talking of which, I think you should get a cold air intake, mounted at about ground level under the wheel arch. The VW one is rubbish, makes the car sound like a complete wimp too. If it's uphill enough, no grit and rubbish will get sucked in either, it's a winner! ;) * - I take no responsibility for anyone taking this crap seriously!
  3. You are correct paul.. :) As I understand it there are minor differences in either the turbo itself, or the bottom end of the engine, depending on who you talk to, between the 150/180 engine and the genuine 225.
  4. Ironic, coming from a person who suffers from awful steering on his Corrado (like me!)... ;) But I know what you mean. It is alleged, however, that Audi claim that they tried to make the new range more responsive on the steering front. Maybe they didn't try very hard?

  6. Probably true. Still, that doesn't make a huge difference - the biggest effect is wind resistance by far. You need an extra 6bhp to make it from 143 to 145 mph, for example!!

  8. Just doing some maths.. Following the stuff on the puma racing site, I reckon that a Corrado VR6 (Cd 0.32, frontal area 19.54 sq ft, top speed 145mph, weight with person 1270kg) requires 14bhp for rolling resistance, plus 130bhp to overcome wind resistance at 145mph. So it only actually requires 144bhp at the wheels. Which kinda implies to me that something is wrong in that maths, I'd say, either that or the gearing on the VR is wrong, and it would actually top out faster than that with a taller top gear (or a shorter one). Given that most people's are recording 151 - 160 bhp at the wheels it implies those figures are out...
  9. But it makes more sense.. Even Asim's giant-slaying VR6 is just around about factory standard output, going by the info in the above link, from the wheel figure he posted a few weeks back. Good question about the Vortexers tho. Dunno how they get such claimed WHP... Or is it just that - "claimed"?
  10. Interesting reads, definitely. Re-looking at the rolling road results I got from Stealth, my completely-standard-but-Schricked VR6 put out only 151 bhp to the wheels. Now in the absence of any evidence that suggests I have excessive transmission losses (I don't have dragging brakes, I don't have dodgy wheel bearings, I don't have a dead gearbox etc), I have to assume that's an accurate reflection of the engine's output. While it's *nice* to think my VR is a 201bhp car, I'm MUCH more inclined to think a 120k miler is likely to be around 5-8bhp DOWN on "factory" output, than 10-11bhp UP, frankly... (Knowing, of course, that the Schrick adds little or nothing to the top end power.) Of course, that doesn't mean I won't be telling all my mates I have a chart that says "201.1"... :)

    Indicators.

    Sounds like the relay under the dash. I think the alarm has it's own 12v feed and relay to bypass the main one.

  13. If you notice there's always a fudge factor on a rolling road run. The only thing they can really *measure* is the rate of speed increase of the rollers. This, given the known mass and therefore rotational inertia of the roller, allows you to calculate the force applied to the roller, i.e. lbft. This can be extrapolated back to the crank power output only after you've tried to measure the nebulous "drivetrain loss".. All you've gotta do is increase the friction in the "measuring drivetrain loss" stage and you can throw the calculated crank hp way up. Please note - I know nothing about AMD's rollers, and am not trying to say this is what they are doing - I'm just explaining how it works, so that you can make your own minds up.

    2.0 8v Vs 2.9 VR6

    I'd say getting 190 bhp from a 2861cc 6 with only 2 valves per cylinder and a redline at 6600 rpm is not that bad at all, actually (particularly in 1992). Right now a 2.0 8v really appeals to me somehow.. A simple, reliable, torquey engine with the handling and style of a Corrado thrown in. Very appealing..

    Hoping to stir up some flames here, but I'd say the VR6 is pretty quick, particularly when you consider what was around, in it's price bracket, at the time. It's still fast now, competing with the current crop of hot hatches without too many troubles. (But that's getting harder with the modern obsession with turbos..) BUT I spent my previous three years driving a 2.0 8V vauxhall, and I know what it's +ve aspects are, and think they are worthwhile having. (Assuming the VW engines are tuned similarly to the Vauxhall 8v engines.)
  19. scanned for error codes? throttle cable isn't too tight? You've checked that the throttle position sensor is ok (back to error codes..)?
  20. Obviously they had a stupid pump. Looks ok to me... You weren't trying to put 4* in were you? They use a bigger nozzle on the 4* pumps...

  22. I mean I'm sure the adjustable column is refurbishable, it is, after all, an assembly, so it can surely be disassembled. But the bentley etc only lists a single part number for the whole column, and insists that it should all be replaced as a single unit, which is HUGELY expensive. Personally I doubt that they column itself could cause the kind of symptoms that we're experiencing, tho. The only point that could is the UJ on the column, and that's not easily serviceable... But you are welcome to try.... :)
  23. Column bearings?? You've got the old, non-variable column I take it? There are no serviceable parts on the variable column that we have on 99% of the late VRs.
  24. Some people have reported that replacement injectors help with VRs that are slow to startup, but I couldn't comment myself...
