  1. Regardless of distance, a lack of coolant is bad news...!!!!!! If the engine can heat 7 litres of water from -5 to 80 degrees in less than 5 minutes, it's more than capable of baking itself in the same 5 minutes. That's the equivalent of running 7 kettles, or about 20 KILOWATTS of heat!!
  2. You kept driving it with the coolant light flashing? Or you got out, checked the coolant level, satisfied yourself there were no leaks or air locks, and the coolant was full and clean, and the drove on confident in the knowledge that the light's sensor must be faulty?
  3. That would work, most likely...
  4. Does it also pull left if you're braking? Maybe it does it harder? Wishbone bushes been looked at properly? Wheel bearings? Lower ball joints?
  5. Yup, duty plus VAT plus shipping usually kills a lot of the benefits.. :(

I think it's time to get some in-car air freshener dude... ;) An ex work colleague of mine lost a load of fishing bait in his car once (read: maggots).. They crawled into the air ducts (any dark spaces really) - for the next few months he had flies coming out of the vents every time he turned the heater on!!
  7. Twonk is a word I think I've not used since school.......
  8. Does it really say "TWONK" on your number plate, Katie??!
  9. "look a bit small" - they're the same as OE size, should do fine, if they fit!
  10. Dunno mate, but *I* want a set of these: *edit - actually I just want this car. Without the decals, of course.
  11. We should mention, before anyone plans their life based on this thread, that Kev has been troubled with very similar symptoms AGAIN, only a week after the fitting of these new ball joints. I'll go ahead and get mine swapped too next weekend, and report back, but I'm beginning to suspect I need a new rack...
  12. thats basically what the nw 24v engines are :D They all have a VSR like inlet and if u seen one with the bonnet open watch as the little flap up the front moves as the engine gets reved :) Yeah, but it would have been better in the Corrado, as we all know it was the best VW ever made, right?
  13. They all *look* very similar, tbh. The VR6 one looks a lot like the 2.0 16V one, and vice versa. I know they're different part numbers, but it's probably all in the detailing. Trouble is, if you buy it and it doesn't fit right, you're shafted! :(
  14. There's nothing wrong with SACHS/BOGE gas shocks - they are the same as was fitted at the factory (on the VR6 at least). That may be too soft for some people, but that's a personal decision. The car that won all those motoring press plaudits was equipped with SACHS Advantage shocks, so they can't be all bad.
  15. Phew, could be almost anything, that one! The obvious candidates are wheel bearing and as you say, possibly a caliper problem. You'd have to jack the wheel up and see if you can find any play in it to check for bearing problems (which is always harder on the front wheels cos of the drive shaft). Plus, turn the wheel round - if it doesn't turn freely that might give you a clue. And yeah, I know what you mean about Corrado tunes - the one under the bonnet is enough for me, 99% of the time..!
  16. You did write an epic, tho, Henny. Just back from the pub? I am, couldn't be bothered to write any more...
  17. The dipped beam should come on, at a very low intensity, when the sidelights are on. It's normal. It's designed so that even if you have a bulb gone, you should still have two visible lights at the front. And it sounds to me like your bulb has gone on the drivers side - there's two filaments in the bulb, one for dipped beam and one for main beam. Clearly the main beam one is ok, but I'll wager the dipped beam one is kaput... Buy a new bulb. Can recommend the standard wattage, but high intensity bulbs on http://www.powerbulbs.com ..
  18. "in all honesty it never occurred to me that the CV might be knackered if it didn't have any grease in it"! LOL What a bunch of prime ARSE! :)

LOL we were having a perfectly legit discussion about the best way for Scott to present the information he produces when doing the engine rebuild, that's all!! ;) Completely on-topic, imho! :)

I'm insulted! Just what do you have against Corrados? ;)
  22. More valves and a VSR, now that would have been a tasty motor..

Don't feel sorry for me.. My choices are sound, based on my knowledge of the industry. I choose not to be one of the herd, and that includes my choice of car too!! (phew, back on-topic) ;)

I never said I thought he was trying to rule the world... It's a proven fact that Microsoft will use pretty much every trick in the book to prevent anyone at any point in the supply chain from offering their customers a choice. Which I'm sure any business *would* do, but let's face it, if 95% of the world drove Fords, and Ford refused to sell cars through companies that also sold other makes, I'm sure most people's opinions would be different. Linux has implemented a windows gui, that's true, but then M$ copied that from someone else anyway. The look and feel are quite different (or at least, can be configured to be quite different) to the M$ take on a window-ing OS. They are all ways of achieving the same thing, that's true. But then, cars - they're all ways of getting from point a to point b, right? No difference there either then? So we may aswell all buy Kias? Honestly, if M$'s product was sooooo much better than anything else out there, I'd pay for it happily. But it's not.
