  1. Welcome! 16 - jeez, now that is what i call getting started young! I assume you can't actually drive the car yet? Over here in the UK you can only legally drive at 17, and if you phoned any insurance company to get a quote on a 2.9 VR6 (Corrado's over here are all 2.9 not 2.8 as in the US)... you would get laughed at. If someone was bonkers enough to quote you, you would probably be looking at an insurance bill well over £3000, and that is probably a very conservative estimate! Looking forward to the pics! Dont forget to look at the FAQ / Wiki section which has a lot of info. http://the-corrado.net/forumdisplay.php?42-Wiki-amp-Knowledge-Base
  2. I buy almost all my stuff through TPS now. If you can get the 10% trade discount then it really knocks a fair bit off the ridiculous Corrado taxed prices... Just need to know someone in the trade who has an account at TPS, or get friendly with the TPS staff :)
  3. try this : http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?57486-Late-Headlight-Switch....Its-Happening.&highlight=switch+headlight or this: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?12494-Headlight-switch-repair-a-pictorial-guide&highlight=headlight+switch+repair ohh and don't forget this... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?49497-Headlight-switch-and-loom-fires.....DIY-prevention&highlight=loom+fire
  4. caddy 83 - 92 Scirocco / Corrado 79 - 95 Golf 79 - 92 Jetta, Passats and Polos too... they are the "plastic" knobs, not the leather ones as far as i can tell on ETKA...
  5. 90% there with the tracing.... Give me another week and I should have this sussed out. It may not be entirely as I wanted, but I'm going to have to make a few compromises so it may be a White print on a black background which is then just applied to the black plastic. Will keep you informed... Also, how many people are interested in these if I get them printed? Just some idea of numbers so if I do get them printed I know. I'll get some photos up of progress soon..... Ta
  6. Getting close the wheeling that welder out.... Anyone have any tips/ideas to sort out the two issues I am having?
  7. cheers guys. Dave - ill take a look when i whip the doorcard off.
  8. Just PM'd you to get driver side kit. My driver side door doesnt auto lock/unlock with the CL anymore. All other locks open and close with the central locking, except the driver's side - i have to use the key to manually open and close it. The door pin doesnt go up or down unless i use the key in the door handle. Problem started after I had the door card off and was fixing my electric windows, installing new rollers, wiring in my door speakers, re-applying a new damp proof sheet etc... It used to work before, but i think i messed up something when i reassembled it. Anyway, as i need to take the doorcard back off to fix it, i may as well get the handle repair kit installed at the same time. cheers

    Oil

think it is a low mileage 2.0L 16v from another post right? Anyway, take a look at this sticky: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?50941-Oil-some-basic-advice. For my old 2.0L 16v (ABF) i used to use the Quantum synta silver stuff that the dealers sold - although im not 100% sure but i think this has been replaced by a fuchs alternative.... Take a look here , fouth post from the bottom by opieoils http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=237642&d=0&nmt=
  10. mine is a green box with white writing on it if that helps. will take a pic later on today or tomorrow unless someone else gets the chance first. edit : this is what mine looks like
  11. haha... i think we all know the feeling! On the two occasions i have ever had people sitting in the rear seats of my car, I myself have always operated the front seat tilt lever, let them in the back and then gently let the seat go back into the normal upright position. Far too many times i have seen people yank that lever like they were choking a chicken and then let the seat slam backwards! i think we all suffer from corrado-itus, for which there is no known cure :)
  12. that is LOWER than LOW... There are some right gits out there! Im usually on german ebay, will keep a lookout for you if one ever comes up at a reasonable price!
  13. Right, before i break out the welder and weld my &*~#ing sunroof permanently closed ... i wondered if anyone here had any thoughts on a few 'issues' i am having.... (i have sat and performed search after search on the forums - trust me i looked in ALL the forum posts but i am still a bit miffed). So i decided to take pics and hopefully they will help someone in the future.... SO, I am having the following issues: - scraping of roof lid / panel leaving scratches in the paint - mostly on the DRIVER side with one towards the passenger side. - interior trim panel is not moving fully forward when trying to close the roof from the fully slid back (opened) position. I recently had the whole sunroof casette out as the motor was knackered and the roof would tilt fine but slide back in tiny increments and stuggle to close itself (commonly documented issue). So I replaced the motor with a late MK3 item and it worked fine - result! I also cleaned and re-greased the runners/tracks using the correct VAG lube whilst the sunroof was out PHOTO 1 PHOTO 2 The sunroof also had the following two items recently replaced : (item 12) (item 1) *although i am not 100% sure if it was both on passenger side, one on driver and one on passenger or both on driver side (the body shop who did the respray purchased and installed the items - NOTE TO OTHER CORRADO OWNERS - dont let the bodyshop do it... remove it yourself!) PHOTO 3 (Used as a reference : http://www.wagenstad.com/index.php?modid=398&page=8-154-15) From what i think, i believe item 12 (repair for water guide plate) was replaced on the DRIVER side (1H0 898 020) and item 1 (repair kit for guide) was replaced on the PASSENGER side (1H0 898 017 A), my reasoning below: PHOTO 4 PHOTO 5 PHOTO 6 As you can see the plastic clips are all intact on passenger side, and they are white PHOTO 7 Here on the driver side, the plastic is black and there is one clip broken/missing. Scraping Issue: The problem ... NOT HAPPY! PHOTO 8 Deep scratches on Driver side PHOTO 9 highlights of problem areas I see and feel no play in the sunroof panel if i attempt to move it whilst the sunroof is fully opened on tilt - there is zero movement at all. I also noticed that the clearence between the metal brace (inside the car) and the roof panel is ridiculously tiny and i thought that the roof panel was catching on it as it slid back into the roof cavity. So i broke out the dremel and gave it a small shaving at the point where the scratches were. Is there any flipping reason why the gap is so small to even become an issue - what a crap design!?! PHOTO 10 An odd patch in the inner roof which was in line with the largest scrape on the sunroof panel - so I dremelled it flat. Is this patch rust??? PHOTO 11 Here you can see the after effects of the dremel - the gap between the sliding roof panel and this metal edge was like 1 mm - cant understand why the clearence is so small? anyway - i dremeled the edge off where the main scratches in sunroof panel on the driver side were PHOTO 12 These odd patches were all along the width of the roof... So, is it worth getting the repair kits for the "opposite sides" and install them before putting everything back together (headlining, pillar trims etc...)? The thought of getting it all put in and the lid getting scratched again will probably make me drive the car off a cliff. 1H0 898 019 repair kit for water guide plate (LEFT) - item number 12 1H0 898 018 A repair kit for guide (RIGHT) - item number 1 Interior Trim Panel Issue: So what happens is that when i slide the sunroof fully back / open, the panel slides along with it. However, when i try to close the sunroof, the trim panel moves forward but only to the 3/4 position (roughly where the purple line is). This is unless I actually push the panel with my hand forward (toward front of car) as i hold the sunroof switch to close it. PHOTO 13 On the inner panel, there are the two plastic runners either side (highlighted in the red box below) with the groove which the sunroof tilting mechanism "pin" (highlighted in green circles in PHOTOS 6 and 7) slot into. The runners slide back and forth but I wasnt sure why? The yellow circle shows the little plastic clip that when released, the whole runner slides in the direction of the purple arrow. What is this clip for, should it be left in the position it is shown in the photo or should i release the clip to allow the runner to slide back and forth? Just wondered if this was anything to do with my interior panel not fully closing from the slide position??? If you look at PHOTO4, you can see the clip is fully engaged when the roof is tilted fully open. PHOTO 14 Also, in photo below, the little metal clips are supposed to slot into something at the front of the mechanism. I made sure i pushed the trim panel all the way to the front very hard to make sure they were engaged, but i still get the problem with the trim not going to its normal, closed position. PHOTO 15 As i mentioned before, I did notice one of the plastic clips was missing on the driver side (red circle) on PHOTO 7 - is this part of the issue??? Thanks for reading folks. Right now i wanted to get my headlining and all the trim back into the car, but this sodding sunroof is stopping me doing that as I dont want to do all that work only to find out i need to take it all out again to fix the sunroof AGAIN!
  14. seconded - although its been bugging me for more than just a few days :)
  15. thanks for your work to get this converted, really enjoyed watching it
  16. cheers! .... just got the last few bits back (updates on page two) If this sodding weather would sort itself out I would start putting it all back in the car.
  17. you think it would be hard getting them to look like this? Apart from the backrest side bolsters being a different shape, the other stitching on the base and backrest could be replicated right? (picture of other seat taken from a chap on ED38 who had his interior redone by andy at snappy gaiters)
  18. yeah i saw that site as well, but the place i was going to get a price from is http://www.wedgeengineering.net/OurServices/tabid/5446/Default.aspx
  19. Yeah i am a bit torn to tell you the truth as they kinda just "came up" out of the blue when I was searching for other Recaro seats. What got me started was that i was hell bent on finding some original Corrado Recaros in leather (yes i know they are rarer than the teeth of a very rare thing on a night with a blue moon)... If i buy these seats then they HAVE to be retrimmed which is easily going to set me back about £800, so looking at >£1000 in total once i factor in the cost of the seats and the subframes. I could just have my original leathers redone and save myself the hassel OR i could wait forever looking for a set of leather Corrado Recaros to miraculously appear. I guess i was just looking to get some ideas from people who have fitted aftermarket Recaro's to a Corrado on how difficult it is and how much it costs to get the right sumframes made up....
  20. Hi guys, I have a chance to buy some Recaro "Specialist" seats, see pics below (sorry they are schitty iphone cam pics): Apparently they came from a Porsche but I cannot be 100% certain (unless one of the numbers on the bottom label is a Porsche part number?) Obviously the mounting is totally incorrect to fit a Corrado, but I noted that the mounting bolts (6 in total, three on each side) that hold the current seat mounts to the actual seat are 16" / 41cm apart. Its a fairly shallow mount as well... The actual seats are in near enough mint condition with no creases or bolster wear. So the question is: 1) Are they worth it? 2) Would you buy them if you had the chance? 3) rough cost to get them them into a Corrado? I found a place in the US that does conversion brackets for seats. Will give them a bell on Monday to see what prices they come out with. As my current interior is standard leather, id be looking to get these recovered in black leather + maybe a touch of perforated alcantara to match some other bits (although it does seem a shame to ruin perfectly good Recaros!) Decisions decisions! cheers
  21. I though you were the one who is supposed to keep UP :) Only other car that has put a grin on my face like the Corrado is the B7 RS4 I got the pleasure to drive for a weekend (oh and maybe the Lambo gallardo - but that was a track day so doesn't count!). It definitely takes dedication to keep a Corrado on the road these days, BUT the pleasure it gives when everything is running, looking and sounding right is second to none in my opinion. Keep on dubbin'
  22. two in a row..whoo hoo! just bought some items from Rod (rodmax). Great seller, items well packaged and very good communications. cheers!
  23. guys thanks for the detailed responses. Think the chain stretch issues and the obvious fact that twin chargers have twice the number of things to go wrong, puts me off! Definitely considering the 1.6 FSI (113bhp) as well... but i am wondering if it will really be too much of a drop in performance from the MK3 as the MK5 is 300KG heavier and that is really going to show (not that my old man is any kind of speed demon, but he does want the power when it is needed) God, im wondering if i should just let them run the MK3 into the ground till it blows up lol
  24. Hi all, looking to replace my old man's car and been looking at the Golf MK5 1.4 TSI (uses the twin charger tech - turbo and supercharger). He currently runs a MK3 2.0 GTi 8v colour concept (115bhp). Its approaching 150,000 miles and although there is nothing really "wrong" with it, we re just looking to getting something a little newer. Parents are not heavy users and mostly do short journeys (5 miles a day MAX) .. and the odd 200 mile journey every 6 months. Therefore annual milage is something silly like 2000 miles. Will be looking to spend about £7000 MAX and from looking on trader this will get a 2008 plate 120ps / 140ps model with somewhere around 60K on the clock (so that is twice the normal UK average annual mileage). So, anyone here have a MK5 Golf, and specifically the 1.4 TSI? I did a quick look online main issues seem to be : some cabin creaking loose charger timing chains ( ) something odd about a squeeking supercharger clutch plate? (http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/301300.aspx?PageIndex=2) The latter two being the most concerning! I should have access to VAGCOM so would check out a car thoroughly prior to buying, but i want to know if there are any longevity issues with this TSI engine? I always get their current car serviced annually simply due to the number of short journeys they do. I just need to make sure their new car is reliable and doesn't have a tendency to implode due to their regular short journeys! Would like any feedback from people that have driven or owned the car and appreciate any info. thanks! p.s here are a couple of examples on autotrader: (140ps) : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201123390622570/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/price-from/5000/price-to/7000/transmission/manual/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/page/1/keywords/tsi%20air/saved-search-id/2c92963331fffdf6013201629cbe000a/radius/1500/postcode/sl12xg?logcode=p (120ps): http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201131407306517/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/price-from/5000/price-to/7000/transmission/manual/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/page/1/keywords/tsi%20air/saved-search-id/2c92963331fffdf6013201629cbe000a/radius/1500/postcode/sl12xg?logcode=p http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201132409260522/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/petrol/engine-size-cars/1-4l_to_1-6l/maximum-mileage/up_to_100000_miles/price-from/5000/price-to/7000/transmission/manual/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/quantity-of-doors/5/model/golf/make/volkswagen/page/1/keywords/tsi%20air/saved-search-id/2c92963331fffdf6013201629cbe000a/radius/1500/postcode/sl12xg?logcode=p
  25. Ahh yes, most defo meant all in jest and positive. I've had my fair share of rebuilds and keeping motivated after continuously being knocked back is the hardest thing. You kinda think shall I cut a corner here or there....Naaah - do it once, do it right! Secretly we are all suckers :) ...but we love it and we wouldn't have it any other way. Sniff away lol
