Hi Had mine rebored last year, new pistons, rings pumps, head rebuilt, guides etc etc etc Cost was approx 3,400 in total, but I put in new clutch chains guides etc etc. That includes 1100 quid for the garage to take out engine and rebuid and put back in. Mighty fine engine now tho.... :D It can get really silly but the big price is the rings and pistons, and some of the con rod bolts. 112 quid for 12 bolts arghhhhhh Enjoy. Dic

Hi I know this sounds daft but if the thermostat went, then the matrix, why do you think head has gone ? Has the expansion tank cap been changed ? I have a complete head gasket set, inc stem seals etc and new head bolts for 50 bucks if your doing the head. All still new and wrapped. Dic

Hi all Glad to hear the news that good corrados are difficult to find. Should make selling mine easier. In everyones opinion I am guessing I will be better waiting for a few months before putting it up for sale. I have a dog coming and 2 kids(2kids are here already), and the mrs has a Corrado, so can't justify keeping mine. Would I be a lunatic to change it for a Legnum VR4, estate obviously. or can I find something for about 3K that is an estate that would suit the purpose. Your thoughts. Dic

HI there My original speedlines had 205's on them, but they were in crap nick. I bought some mint speedlines which someone had put 195's on. They were fine, until i worw them out. They look ok and yes there is a bit less grip, but not so you would notice unless your hooning it :D Theres a plan Dic

Glad it wasn't me being picky with those bolts. Must admit tho, that I thought with the matrix being a common fault, I was expecting just poor quality german engineering, which would be unusual. Guess what, it's a french bit. Now the problem makes sense. The french should stick to food, and leave the engineering to the Germans. We live and learn Dic

Just a quick note to say that wasn't so bad. Used the guide on canadian ebay which was really useful. Only took me 6 hours. Finished with a cold beer. Just to let anyone else know you don't have to be a genius to do it. (But a contortionist would be good for the dash bolts under the bulkhead. hehe :) Dic

Deffo agree with Dr Mat Vagcom it first and go from there. You could end up chasing your ass for years. Other than that, the Blue temp sensor is a likely culprit and only 10 bucks, but vagcom will confirm it. Lambda is a git to do......... Dic

Hi Possibility you might have a leak on the coilpack made worse by being damp. Worth a look in the dark Dic

Awigman, This appears to be very similar to something I put on my 16v not long ago. It already had central locking, just not remote operated. Took me about 30 mins and involved mounting control box under the dash (easy) and removing door card to make electrical connections (Awkward getting wires thru from control box)but very useful Glad you pointed this out, as I have another motor that needs doing, so will probably get one of these kits. Cheers Dic

Firstly very easy to register here. Needs UK MOT and valid insurance cert as far as I remember As for Germany, plates are personal, not with the car, so you would need to get export plates. never done it myself, but have heard it's a fairly straight forward process. There are companies that will help you, for a fee of course. Good Luck Dic PS Why you want to buy from Germany ? Euro exchange rate is def not in your favour at the mo

I must sympathise with your spending plight. My VR6 has cost me best part of 4k so far, most of which was on engine rebuild. My 2l 16v has beeen good, only spent what I have to on it, oil filters, suspension etc. I would not change either of them, unless I can find a good VR6 sharan and loose the 16v. Oh I love my loud pedal............ Stick with it. Probably someting really silly that'll get fixed in a jiffy. I hope so. Good luck Dic

Exhaust rattle *UPDATED* Anyone heard of Bastuck?
AlgarveVR6 replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
Hi D Sounds like cat to me. unkucky Just briefly I have had new engine etc etc inc 6 2 1 manifold. Whilst doing all this had a custom freeflow sports cat built for 260 quid. Used old end sections of cat and put new bit in the middle. This was in Cardiff but sure there would be someone near you. Cat from VW is about 700 I think. Not as bad as you might think Dic -
Hi I had a problem last year when the aux pump blew in half, seperating at about the same point as your arrow indicates. The pump was original tho, so ancient. I would argue toss with whoever you bought pump from if its leaking. All the spares sold in UK come with 12 month guarantee. Here in Portugal they all seem to come with 2 year guarantee for the same bits. There is also the option of buying another one, taking the bust one back in 2 months and getting another new one, and selling that on the bay 8) (But I haven't said that, and I will deny it............oh I wrote it down..............oops) Cheaper than a new one Dic

HI Matt Do you mean that the key turning in the barrel doesn't unlock the door, or that when you pull then handle (when it's unlocked) that it doesn't open the door. 1st would mean barrell, second would mean broken or worn mechanism somewhere. (as you know with a C the handles are always stuffing up) Good luck Dic

Hi Kev If the pipes are getting hot going in and out of the matrix, and your not loosing coolant anywhere, then it sounds like the controls are funked......... Make sure your not loosing coolant. Even with my matrix with a hole in it, I was still getting hot air, but only with kepping the coolant topped up. Check the controls first. Dic

I knew my matrix had gone when i put blower on to defrost screen. Misted it up even more. And then eventually no more heat. The other tell tale was the coolant loss. I still haven't fixed it yet tho. Dic :(

The fog light lense is siliconed in, or VW's equivalent of silicone. I had to remove mine, but it was broken, so did'nt have to worry about breaking it. Perserverance as my old man would say Good Luck Dic :)

A vr6 left hooker.................i wonder if I might be able to make use of it living here................... Ref service, how much history do you have. Personally if it was me, i would do steering fluid and brake fluid as well, possibly even clutch fluid. I am of course presuming your changing the oil, and filter, and the air filter. Might be worth checking coolant has the correct G12 in it. But thats me. Enjoy and have fun Dic :D

Andy, do you have the opportunity to Vagcom it. I wish i had done mine when i first had problems. Would have saved me loads of grief. I bought a lead for 20 bucks and had the shareware from ross tech. any unknown codes I put in here as a search and sorted everything. Worth every penny Dic Or borrow one.....

Had a little problem with my mums 1.8 valver last year. Missing sometimes, others it was fine. kangaroo petrol, but at any speed. Turned out to be the fuel pump in the tank, the other one under the car was fine. Hope this helps Dic
