Thinking first case of dodgy ignition switch. Usually the culprit. Have you got lights ? If so probably the switch. Loads of info on here about them, just a git to get at. Dic

Good Luck, and mind those knuckles Dic

Hi If you are not getting any smoke and it smells when you're stuck in traffic, best guess would be a leak on the engine itself, when the pressure is up. Try parking it over some clean newspaper and run it for a few minutes. See if there is anything on the paper. Good check underneath sounds like a plan. Good luck Dic

Morning Matrix failure is usually noticed by loss of water from the cooling system, wet patches in the footwells, no hot air, or very little, steaming up of windscreen when cold cos the humidity in the car is very high (due to leak) and no doubt constant swearing from the owner cos your feet are cold............ Ball ache of a job to do, but can be done by any competent DIYer. By the sounds of it, something in the control system is not right or busted. Dic

HI This also depends on which pump it is. Am I right in saying there is a fuel lift pump in the tank and another pump just behind the filter under the car. I had the lift pump go, which makes the other pump whine cos it has no fuel to pump. Just my 2 penneth but worth bearing in mind. Dic

Greetings from Portugal Until 2 years ago. my wife, myself and my 2 young sons were happily living in South Wales. We are all British by birth, but my Mrs was raised for 10 years near Lisbon. She always had a hankering to come back. Well 2 years ago we did. We still think it was the right decision, but bugger me if it hasn't been twice as hard as we thought. We have a huge bonus over most expats that Heidee (My Mrs) speaks the language fluently. She actually teaches other expats the lingo. I cannot imagine how much more difficult this would have been with the language as a barrier too. Setting up work for myself has been hard, had no issues in UK but even with the expats here needing work, the language always hinders everything. The country is fab, the people are fab. I would not want to be anywhere else, but anyone considering moving cannot be under any illusions, its hard. Everything is different. No going to B and Q and knowing what you want............and thats the easy part. try phoning someone about a price for something when you don't speak the lingo. The way they do things is all different. Our usual one is not to phone but "pass by". Fine if you live close, but when you have to drive 40kms to get the price for some timber to do a job, cos they want you to "pass by" instead of telling you on the phone. I love it here, and I don't want to be anywhere else, but even without the lingo problems it would still be hard. If your considering it, think long and hard about it. Then think long and hard about it a few more times, think of wll the annoying things that could happen, multiply it by 10 and then think again. Oh and don't for a second think that the credit crunch is not biting here as well. It is. Our water bills have just gone up 140% in one month, without being told before hand it was happening. Welcome to Portugal. PS The weather is great tho, the surf is fantastic, my Corrado seems to prefer the climate here, and an ice cold bottle of beer on my way home costs me 55p Enjoy Dic :D

back to the Northern Rock thing, is it true that Barclays had asked the bank of England the same question 2 weeks previous to NR. ie ..........IF......... we get into trouble can you help us. personally better to ask beforehand than get F??''/&(/ over afterwards, or am I misinformed.

Sounds like the fuel pump. Might be about to give up the ghost. I think there are 2 on the VR6, one in the tank and the other just behind the rear of the door. Obviously underneath. Ref chains, if they ain't makin a noise leave them alone. They don't break, just get rattly with age. Leave it well alone unless its making a noise IMHO Dic

With most corrados you might find its the controls themselves. Another C foible of knackered controls. If you take out the 3 dials (I unit) you can see straight away if there is any of the plastic bits broken etc Not difficult to change, but hard to find Dic

Yeah I have one. easy to fit, mine was well labelled. Made a big difference. Just if you want side lights, mine is a bit funny. Have to switch on dipped, then switch to side and then pull stalk like yuou want main on. maybe I just wired it wrong. Good enuff tho Dic

But at the end of the day, would a Corsa bring a smile to your face when you've just driven down the local high street. (Even if you had some of those annoying puppets in it) ~Nope not a chance in hell. And plus the fact, how good do you feel when the C is running right and polished. I get the same feeling in mine even when its dirty. :D Enjoy it. Dic

If its a 16v, try the cold start valve. My wifes C is a 2 16v and her cold start valve has gone. The 2 16v does not have a blue temp sensor.(I don't think) After about 5 mins, the car warms up and runs like a peach. Have fun Dic
-
Bloody hell you lot are good. Prices, part numbers, pics. Can anyone bring them over and you can stay at mine for a bit, and have some sun. Oh and if you can fit them too, even better. Dic

excellent news. Presume VW charge stupid money. What am I talking about, of course they will. Oh well, there goes my new surfboard. :( Anyone any idea on VW list price inc bushes. Might get both done at the same time
-
Hi All Being a bit thick as usual. My wifes C failed IPO inspection here in Portugal. Turns out its the front suspension bushes in what I think is the wishbone. The wishbone is the triangular (nearly) pressed steel bit on the front suspension. Guy at the garage, who doesn't speak good english so comms are limited, asked if it is possible to buy with the bushes, or can you buy the bushes seperate. Please bear in mind I have no access to GSF or the like here, and have to use VW, or pay mega postage. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dic PS Sorry to be thick

Check that the sensor is not fouling the heat sheild stuff and not shorting. You will get lousy fuel consumption too if it is. Worth a look at the wires to make sure he hasn't twisted them to death and pulled 'em off Dic
-
Know this might sound daft, but are you still getting your petrol from the same garage. Sometimes from experience can make a hell of a difference. Other than this pearl of wisdom, I'm a bit stuffed to think what it might be Dic
