Awesome car! More early 16v corrados to take over the WOORRRLLLDD. Hate to say it, but that grille won't fit if it's a late: the mountings are different as I found out :brickwall:

Forced Induction 16v Thread. Post in there mate, no point making lots of new topics.

Ahhhh, jap? wait, 4G63 is an Evo engine isn't it?

:notworthy: 100% with you mate! It boils my blood when people say its sh!t just because its old and when i ask what they do like, its all the same mass produced crap that are all the same but with different badges basically! But at the same time i still get a lot of compliments because it is different and people also realise its a one of design by vw intended as a sports coupe rather than just a golf with slightly wider arches, without mentioning any new vw sports coupes coming out soon  (*waits for pedantic replies saying how i am wrong and the corrado is based on a golf etc ) Lately i have been having a corrado downer (just ask Kev, he's been on the end of my depressed emails  sorry mate!!) as i have recently moved house and the roads are terrible, really bumpy with pot holes everywhere :bad-words: and its really made me think about selling up and getting a modern car that absorbs bumps and doesnt yank the steering out of your hand over every pot hole. But then i look around at these modern cars and yeah they drive nicely and wouldnt feel as bumpy but they are all dull and lifeless (with a few exceptions obviously but not within my price range!). But i know that with a bit of time and money i can get it driving as good as possible and then whack a turbo on it and wipe the floor with all the above mentioned cars  Alright Rob, I was wondering if you have fitted the track rod end sleeves and lower ball joint extenders to your car? you'd be surprised how much bump steer they can eliminate on dropped rides, and can restore the suspension geometry quite effectively :salute: harshness of pot holes may still happen though :salute:[/quote:gbke33z8] Swear I pm'd you that Herisites  Sorry for the Off-Topic!

Ditto that. Unexperienced opinions :nono:

So I finally got round to digging these off my phone. The wheel hub with the new bearing in  zoom into bottom left corner Re-drilled hole for new stone guard (yet to purchase) as the old bolt snapped. Titanium tipped drills OWN. Rear beam the day after I Nitromors'd all the old paint off it. Unfortunately it flash rusted kinda bad. I had Marine Clean'd it here too. Subsequent Metal Ready zinc phosphate coatings from the POR Starter kit... Didn't work it's way all through the inside of the beam: A Metal Ready dip would be awesome for that. Needs to be kinda big though. The family  Shame the rad support is Non-PAS and the subframe is from a Mk2 Golf... any takers? No close-up shots of the Beam post-painting: it seems to have some trapped air bubbles in it. I think maybe the zinc phosphate releases a gas as it cures on the metal and that subsequently got trapped in the paint. The topcoat of POR is purely cosmetic though: the leaflet says one coat is enough, the topcoat is to stop sun fade :salute:

   Seriously though, people do seem to think that new = best. Quite a lot of people won't even get in my H reg C as they think it'll break or something. Ah, naivety.
-
To get it off the road couldn't you have just bunny hopped it in gear off the starter motor? Sorry to hear that such a new car died at a young age though. They really don't make them like they used to.

  Simon, you joker!

put a big bar over the end of the allen key if you can, scaffold is good. Sounds like you have the best method already.
-
the suspension for a corrado is stiffer than the Golf stuff cos the car is heavier, but if they're coils they should be adjustable and you should be able to use them. The golf subframe is no good on a Corrado as it is missing the rear subframe mounts (past the ARB mounts) and also doesn't have the anti-vibration mounting on the front.

Do you notice any oil consumption? the smoke could be valve stem seals if it does it on startup although that would be more blueish smoke. Have you checked your hydraulic lifters with the DIY stethoscope? Put a spanner to the rocker cover and the other end to your ear: you will be able to hear the drivetrain whirring, if you do it at a few points along the top you might even hear a duff lifter (should be quite loud I think).
-
the very rear G60 subframe mounts aren't on the Golf, so you might want to cut them off. Else you could sell the G60 subframe to someone on here and then just use a golf subframe, that would be ok. You'd need to use golf wishbones though afaik.
-
G60 frame on the golf should be fine.
-
Mk2s don't have nipples on the MC afaik because they don't have a hydro clutch. My Jetta didn't.
-
There are some slight differences. Do you want to use a G60 subframe on the Golf, or the Golf subframe on the G60?

1. Don't think so. The passenger door handle will "work" but the door won't open. Driver's door you can't even pull the handle that much with the doors locked. 2. With the drivers door closed, you should be able to push the door pin down which will indeed activate the central locking - this is normal. I'm not sure if you can open them all by pulling the driver's pin up though.

Looking forward to seeing a Bramble VR6 pass me in traffic

the factory one has a bush in the middle: How is this changed?

Yeah I'll get some stripped pics up tomorrow :camp: You can have the beam off the 70k breaker if you like? I've stripped it of parts, and it has some light flash rust but I don't want anything for it. Might be able to take it down to Toad's if that's any use to you. I'll get some pics of that aswell.
-
Did you use a compressor and airgun or was it a rattle can jobby? what colour is your car?
-
Erwins are available online and possibly from Machine Mart and other machine shops like that? Plusgas you'll have to hunt for too - but it's worth it.
-
Done the hub (first coat), and stripped the beam now - chemical burns are not fun  Paint came off within a fewe seconds which was cool. Now I need to rinse all the paint/nitromors off without the beam flash rusting :confused4: Edit: Page 35 - all in 6 months

Off to B&Q today for some NitroMors, Goggles and thick gloves. Going to strip the base paint off the new rear beam and then POR it from bare metal. I'll be doing the hubs in brush hammerite: The danger of getting some degreaser into the bearing is too high now, so I'll be taking it carefully with the satin black :salute:
