  1. VW name stuff randomly though. I have a 2" diameter rubber seal and it's called a washer! Other seals are actually called seals. is there a way of searching on ETKA for the part numbers? I'm guessing this is what someone did to find the correct part name.
  2. Coursework is getting owned, plotted a few of my CAD drawings on A3 today and they look awesome! Found a couple of cross-members on Ed38 from a mk2 golf auto on 70k. Finding parts from low-mileage cars with the same part number on is awesome :D £35 delivered for both which I really couldn't argue with. Told Prodigal he could have the engine mount cross-member as I already have one to go on :salute: Also ordered a bunch of bodywork-stay-fresh goodies after talking to herisites, cheers for the impartial help buddy! :notworthy: As Ron's bodywork is his best feature I thought that keeping it nice was probably a good idea. Also thinking about changing his name to Stella as he is reassuringly expensive! Don't worry, he hasn't had a sex change or anything
  3. afaik exhaust temperatures at the manifold will be around 300 deg Celcius, but don't quote me on that. Depends if you're sitting on the redline all day or not.
  4. Very good point Walesy, i hadn't thought of that due to never having a car remotely near new enough to even warrant being near a converter. or even a cat. :brickwall: :notworthy:
  5. No-one's waiting to trip anyone up, I was just about to post and state the perfect legality of karmann's car when I saw you had locked the thread :confused4: I've checked with the DVLA and the DFT and it's not a legal requirement :salute: It's a moot point now anyways as g60karmann has probably already read this, and seen my reply which is all I wanted in the first place! now we can all hug and forget the kerfuffle
  6. yeah the smoke would either be the fuel vapour coming back out or actual smoke from the petrol igniting but at the wrong point in the cycle. glad to hear you've got it fixed though :D
  7. Exactly. To be honest, I think g60karmann just wasn't too sure what the deal was and thought he might have to do it on the sly. You don't karmann, it's fine! People just say to put the cat back on your exhaust for MOT time just because it's a ballache to have your car fail, THEN have to put the cat back on and THEN get a re-test. It is perfectly legal to have a decat car as long as your emissions are in order. There's absolutely NO government legislation saying all cars after 92/K HAVE to have a catalytic converter; it was just introduced to help emissions :salute:
  8. it is NOT a legal requirement for ANY car to have a Catalytic converter fitted. If a car can pass the emissions test without a Catalytic convertor fitted, there is NO LEGAL IMPLICATION and a valid MOT certificate can be issued no problems at all (as long as the rest of the car passes! ) The MOT is testing emissions, so if the emissions from the tailpipe meet the requirements the vehicle passes. Whether a CAT is fitted is irrelevant. The deciding factor is the vehicles date of first registration. A "Cat" may be fitted to a vehicle which only needs to meet the two gas test and if the emissions are satisfactory, it passes. A "Cat" may have been removed and the vehicle is required to meet the "Cat" test standard by virtue of its first registration date. If the emissions meet the standard then it passes. Thanks :thumb right: Jon.
  9. maybe it's from another car? does the tilty handle look the same as the other front seat?
  10. He's in America y0. Traverse, they are Mk2 or A2 items to you my friend. And both sides are identical.
  11. When I find a set of black with purple flecks, you can have ALL of my green and blues FOC. Why would someone put them in a purple car! :cuckoo:

  13. The prices will pick back up, don't lose heart yet.
  14. ECU? No, not at all. Never mind, I was just trying to state that continuity is a relatively simple thing to check where electrical systems are concerned.
  15. Would it have, in any way, ingested some water recently?

  18. Paul do you work in a testing station or something?
  19. Hi Tone, you're right in saying your downpipe is like the golf one as it's 100% the same part. As for systems, mine has a Powerflow on it which i hate as it's pikey and loud. I too haven't been able to find a complete system for early cars but there must be some out there. hth, Jon.
