Who cares, the car is now 5g lighter. Sorry, it's the engineer in me
-
in a very short explanation, they're a turbo engine made by audi. They have 5 valves per cyl so the heads flow reasonably well too. you should prob do some research to be honest, HUGE amounts of info out there on these engines. sorry I can't type it all out for you! J

Awesome colour on yours, Torsion. imho...flip paint corrado is ott, esp grille and that interior ain't gonna last long! some gorgeous cars there though (mk1 on D90s... I heart those wheels too much) -
I could be a complete tard....but, the KR doesn't have a chain, it has a toothed belt hence it couldn't have been that. Probably tappets buddy, they're hydraulic and tend to wear... get a stethoscope on it (i'm being serious!) and listen to the rocker cover, you'd be surprised what you can make out. if you don't have one, use a spanner or something. you can hear the vibrations through the metal...just don't injure yourself!

Sweet lord that thing is clean :-o Deep turqouise paint + gunmetal wheels + big calipers = woot  # good work buddy, what colour is that? do you know the veedub code for it too?

It doesn't matter on engine tune, the emissions they will take into consideration are those in the factory manual when the car was new.

yeah, those SA alarms are proper flamer kits  as said a number of times before, definitely illegal i'm afraid :( -
Take the rear bench out and empty your boot...? :?

LOL, I was sooooo gonna say that!! Ha ha :D @ Sonicriot, yeah struts can be a PITA, you need to put the compressors on in a certain way so that the spring will fit properly without the compressors digging themselves into the inner wing. Saying that, I have never done a mk4 anyways, I leave those jobs to the navy engineers  oh, and PMSL@ your new location....quality!! -
do you mean the car overall or the 4 motion drivetrain?
-
Oooh boy, that's where you went wrong.... Cos I'm a nice guy, I'll swap you my 1.8 8v for your VR6, then when we swap back your Corrado will feel like a rocket ship. Woo!
-
lol, no prob. I had seen it all morning and never got around to posting!
-
by front and rear strut braces, do you mean you spaceframed your car and removed all surplus body panels? just kidding, but are your track times THAT consistent that you could _definitely_ put the faster lap down to the extra rigidity? if you have lateral acceleration before and after graphs, that would help a lot! :batman:

Cheesewire, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again (apart from chucking the tial away!)? Would it be possible to lubricate the valve with some high-temp grease or is t just not worth the hassle?
-
I'd venture and say that the tappets are fine: the fact that the car has been standing so long is a sure fire way for the oil to drain from the entire drivetrain and back into the sump. This is _exactly_ the same as the jetta which was stood for a year: white smoke on startup and for the first few mins and silly loud tappets. I did an oil change as precaution and now it's all fine. hope this helps.

*gets excited about an engineering thread* Oh, Dr Mat beat me to it :( Uh yeah...what he said ^^^ *sulks and wanders off*

^^^ how many litres/gallons does £30 of Tesco super get you and how were you driving / what kinds of roads?

 Good to hear varying opinions on this. I have never run in a VR (If i ever had a fresh VR, I would sit stroking it) so good to hear some other's direct experiences.

Vento front ends are my favourite mod for a mk3! good work :D love the wheels too, very good look.

Oh dear, sounds like a bit of a kipper. How long has he had it? Private sale i'm guessing (or I hope with suspension like that on it!) Have the same brake disc locating screw issue on the Jetta and on Prodigal's G60. They're not an MOT failure as they're literally only there to hold the disc in alignment with bolt holes when the wheel's off. Although it is very annoying! Btw, I wouldn't bother trying to get that snapped disc locating bolt out of the hub: I broke a decent tap and die set piece trying it on the Jetta! :( they're only 239 hubs anyways so no big loss. -
I don't know whether this is assuming too much, or just blindingly obvious, but does your corrado have any other suspension mods? I'm not sure how much of a gain you'll get from just a pair of strut braces. I mean if the chassis stiffens up a lot by just using 2 SBs there might be a problem elsewhere in the suspension/handling system of the car? Hope this is useful as a different perspective.

good work with the engine rebuild. yeah, it's surprising how much swarf is generated from a fresh rebuild, but that's EXACTLY why you don't go W.O.T. on a fresh engine: If one of the bearings / seals / belts or chains is the tiniest bit out of alignment, you stand a chance of killing it. Look forward to hearing more when it's run in.

clinical efficiency is goooood. That's what german engineering is all about surely?
-
Ha ha, perhaps a bit naive? Good job i'm not insured on it! He actually asked me if I wanted to change the rear discs while he was away, cheeky git! Would be good to meet up again, I wanna see what a corrado vr handles like. I think the jetta engine will go soon, then it'll be off the road whilst I decide...hmm.

don't john deere make tractors?! doesn't sound very applicable!
