  1. you have PM about jobs etc! glad to hear you like the plans, thanks - have you checked out some of the other r32 builds on here - kadvr6, kipvr and biggerbigben are all at it! - kip's is very similar to mine too, but all the builds are looking very nice. so what plans have you got for yours then (with regards different bits etc) the goal for mine is just to have the ultimate 'rado for daily use. (in my eyes anyway :)) i would love to go for ridiculous power with FI, but just through the front wheels; it's a bit much for me IMO. also my last car was an impreza wr1 and even when driving it sensibly, it would just rape me on fuel/running costs. the 'rado should hopefully be a fair bit more reasonable to run - plus it looks much les chavvy than an impreza (even if it was a newer one!) and i much prefer running it on a daily basis (let's not mention depreciation too!)
  2. ordered my KW V3's today - 950 delivered from Regal Autosport, which i thought was pretty good... also ordered an upper + lower strut brace for the front, bonrath top mounts and an arp bolt kit for the quaife i'm interested to see exactly where the lower strut brace goes and what it bolts up to - i'm guessing possibly the bolts where the front of the lower arms go into the subframe... either that or i will have to get the drill out! does anyone know where i can get some lightweight/underdrive pullies from for a mk4 r32? - awesome gti do a nice neuspeed set, but they are hoofingly expensive for only 2 pullies! only got a few more bits'n'bobs to order now, then hopefully the whole lot will be ready and waiting for me to sort out when i get back :)
  3. if you can wait a couple of weeks i will be replacing my fuel pump in my VR... if you have a VR or late G60 you are more than welcome to my old pump on the cheap if it will get you going again...
  4. if the viscous coupling was buggered then it might not have been turning.... i had a 306 S16 which had a similar pulley, only instead of that "clutch"style coupling it had a layer of rubber between the inner/outer pullies; presumably to act as a dampener for whatever reason. over time this layer of rubber destroyed itself which led to me hearing a nasty crack when driving along and then watching half of my pulley sail off down the road in front of me! if you can replace it with a solid one at least it will be a start and one more thing eliminated. it does sound more thermostat related if rad hoses were cold - but then if your thermo was opening in the water.... strange. only thing you can do is eliminate one thing at a time and see how you get on really - good luck! :)
  5. Don't put it off for too long, I had to do mine last December in the dark and the cold, that made it even more sweary than it would have been normally :bad-words:  i know exactly what you mean - cheers for the advice. unfortunately i don't have a choice as im not even in the country at the moment - would love to have sorted it before i went away, but i never got the time. im having to do an engine swap and overhaul various other bits outside and in the cold - typical! when i finally found some time to get round to soldering up a big mess in my wiring loom, it was at 10 at night and it was raining - soldering inside the car with a borrowed cheap soldering iron and bedside lamp for lighting - lush! its always the way unfortunately :? character building stuff!
  6. liking the brembos a lot there my friend - they'll look really good once they are on. personally i would stick with the silver if you are going for the subtle look like me - red looks good, but everyone has red calipers and they will draw attention where silver ones won't... also interested to hear if you got the chance to look at the exhaust yet - i was thinking, if there is a flexi bit under the heatshielding - surely the heatshield would have to flex too, otherwise it would rattle and creak when the exhaust flexed?... cheers for the update - hope it's coming along nicely :)
  7. great pics - cheers for that. those will come in useful when i have to sort mine in a couple of weeks :)
  8. don't suppose you have some black leather doorcards then that you would like to swap for some black standard jobbies....
  9. lovely looking motor there dom - especially liking the wheels :)
  10. hey again buddy - don't think there is a flexi in the down pipe on a standard vr you know... there isn't one after the flange like you said and i don't believe there is one under the heatshielding (though i could be wrong) - interesting... we should find out someway as i'm curious now, sure you want to know too - if you get the chance have a look at the manifolds made by pete at dubpower - storm developments sell them - you can see them through their site not entirely certain what you mean by re-routing your exhaust with the stainless tube.... i'm guessing you mean further jiggery pokery with fabrication of some description to make it fit. ziderapple said that the vagdoctor was really good when i spoke to him - he said he would recommend him. i spoke to him (the vagdoctor) as well (from all the way out here!) and he sounded pretty keen and very switched on. i think the only gripe that chris (ziderapple) had with him was that he took a little longer than he thought he would. don't think it was ages or anything like that, but like 2 weeks instead of 1 or something... from talking with chris on here though it sounds like he did a good job and also sorted a couple of other problems for him while he was at it. i take it you are cheating like me and getting someone else to do the wiring for you as opposed to tackling that can of worms yourself!
  11. yes mr cheesewire has got himself another dta setup now so he may well have the obd2 setup he was running for sale - best off getting in touch with him...
  12. I've got the TT twin Cats to put on with the flexis on the downpipe so keeping all the probes, Don't like the custom manifolds that have the flexi after the downpipe as the engine movement then pulls the flexi sideways rather than compressing it (ever wondered why VW never do it?) an eventually you get the inevitable leak. I'm utilizing the vaccum flap to so it's quiet round town and then opens up when you belt it :) I've decided the Brembos will be eith Red or Silver, not sure yet... Glad you like it Pete, looking forward to seeing yours too, 24V is definately the way to go. It makes a good car really good. Personally I like the age of the Corrado because it's got the right level of extras and involvement, ie it's got just enough toys without all the extras that make the car heavy like todays cars. The new engine just brings it back up to date... that's cool - i didn't know the tt's had a flap in the exhaust, that would be sweet - noise or lack thereof is important to me too; i'm sticking with the magnex system i currently have on the car - it's pretty quiet, so i'm hoping that with the bmc on there and a long inlet tract it won't be much noisier as long as i don't drive everywhere at full throttle! as for the exhaust - i have been umming and arring over the flexi thing. being as the vr doesn't have any flexi in the exhaust as standard, but the r32 does... i have gone for slightly uprated engine mounts and where they won't cause any dash shaking, i'm hoping they should give me enough support not to have to worry about the flexi in the exhaust. the exhausts that pete at dubpower makes don't have flexi in them and i've never heard of the lack of flexi ever being an issue for a vr engine (on here or anywhere else)... i know in principle when you think about it there should be one there, but if vw don't put one in as stadard on the vr and pete from dubpower hasn't had any trouble, then i recon i will hopefully be ok - well that's my theory anyway! when you say you have the flexis in your downpipe by the way - have you retained the standard downpipe from the TT? - didn't think they would fit..... i have got some very nice milltek manifolds for a mk5 r32 sat at home that are up for sale - i thought they wouldn't fit (though i planned to give them a trial fit just in case...) they have got flexi bits in the downpipes too... totally agree with you on the going modern theory as well - my thoughts exactly when i wanted to upgrade the 'rado. are you getting a gearbox rebuild and/or lsd? - if you've got the cash it would certainly be a good time! when i get mine done i'm also going to see if i can get hold of the longer 5th gear from a diesel golf (as detailed in the knowledge base) as i do lots of long trips and with the extra power it hopefully shouldn't make much difference to the way it pulls. are you going to get yours remapped too? i was thinking that i'm going to get a bloke called the vagdoctor in bristol to sort all the wiring for me once it's all in mechanically. then i will drive it up to stealth and get vince to remap it for me. was hoping for around the 280bhp mark with the mk5 engine, sports cats, lightened flywheel/helix clutch and lightweight pulleys. if i get more than that then it's really just a bonus!
  13. by the by - i work down in bulford; i'll have approx 6 weeks off when i get back to the uk at the end of this month, but when i get back to work i'll have to look you up as i'm always popping into salisbury to see my girlfriend. i'll drop you a PM nearer the time :) Pete
  14. absolutely loving those wheels - they would look fantastic on a darker 'rado. one for when i win the lottery though i guess! :)
  15. absolutely loving your thread mate - same wheels as mine - RX's all the way! you are doing pretty much exactly the same thing as me too - i want everything as OE looking as possible. (i will be painting the red brembos black when i get them so they don't stand out!) same way with the loom etc and everything as well - nice one! what have you done about the exhaust and cats? - i'm keeping mine as OE as possible, so i've got hold of some milltek sports cats for an r32 and i'm getting a manifold made up specially, that way i can keep all 4 lambdas as well. as for mine, i've done all bushes/running gear etc already as well - hammerited my under-car bits rather than powder coating though... long long long term i will probably end up finding a spare shell and completely strip it and get it resprayed then transfer all my bits over, so i can get the bits powder coated then! loving your thread though buddy. i will be making a start on mine around the end of this month - hope to have it done in about 6 weeks (ish), provided i can organise all the people/parts in that time... no doubt it will end up taking longer, but fingers crossed - i will have the majority of it done in that time... good luck with yours buddy - don't forget to keep us updated :)
  16. hey there buddy - you've gone a bit quiet on here considering you were getting the dta back on thurs.... how are things going now? have you been too busy driving the car to sqeeze in an update on here?! obviously hope all is going well :)
  17. Do you have the part number for the mount Ben? if you could post it one here so i could have it too then that would be really appreciated. also the part No. for the 2.8 24v tensioner would be really good if you know it.... thanks very much :D Pete
  18. hey there my friend, sorry to hear your having these running issues - it is a corrado after all! hope you manage to get it all sorted - sounds like an easy fix though. if you haven't put those shocks on the car yet, you might want to consider whipping them apart again quickly and putting the bumpstops underneath the boots where they are supposed to be - it will make the boots last longer and do their job better... hope it all goes together ok anyway :)
  19. lots of places do them - just have a look around at any place that does fluid transfer products (you may wish to "refine" your search if using a search engine here!) - type in something like "fuel pressure regulator" into ebay and you will hopefully get something useful... just need a T-piece in the line that runs between the regulator and the fuel rail, and attach the gauge to that if vince is setting it all up for you, then you won't really need one anyway - but it's always nice to have so you know whats going on with your engine i guess...
  20. they are pretty easy to install no matter what model you have got. as for setup, that not too difficult either, but have you got an in-lin pressure gauge to tell you what the pressure is and do you know what sort of pressure you need to run at idle? - you will need to know the figure for the pressure you need so it will run as it should - if you ask vince what pressure you should be running on your setup that would probably be your easiest bet... as for setting up - just disconnect the vacuum hose, fiddle with the adjuster until the gauge corresponds with what the idle figure should be, then reconnect the vacuum hose (as far as i'm aware). unless anyone wants to correct me on that, it's a pretty easy job to do.
  21. it wouldn't be a bad idea to do the whole system - you most likely got some air trapped somewhere when it all came off - the only way to be really sure is to give the whole system a thorough bleed - doesn't take too long and at least you will have effectively done a fluid change afterwards (if you take the trouble to remove all the old stuff...) don't forget to bleed the two nipples on top of the abs pump as well as these are often overlooked, not a bad idea to do the one on the master cylinder as well really, just to be sure. also, like mr supercharged says - it seems some rado's are funny old things when bleeding the brakes and they might not feel "quite right" for a while after bleeding until everything has settled down - probably due to the convoluted brake line setup they run. hope you manage to get it all sorted anyway buddy :)
  22. hey there buddy, sorry to hear you are having these issues, i'm sure you will get it squared away though - a man of your talents :) do you know if it's possible to use the old 12v alternator/PAS pump bracket? i'm not fitting air-con to mine, so i was hoping i would be able to get away with robbing the one off the existing vr... how long do you recon it will take you now to get the rest of the wiring sorted - i think we are all as eager as you to see her running for the first time :D
  23. Not at all. I think the only cars I'd sell the VR for are (within reason) Impreza P1 Evo 8 Nissan 350Z R32 or a really mint Nissan 300ZX TT :norty: trust me don't get the impreza - my last car was in impreza wr1 (the sort of replacement for the p1). they are lovely cars and really good fun, but the understeer is truly horrendous - get an evo out of the two any day. (you can correct the understeer traight by putting lots more power on and flicking it into oversteer, but this is really not recommended for daily driving/public roads! - it's really good fun, but the handling really left me cold at all the wrong moments) i have promised myself i will get an evo when i'm old and minted! however they really are not good for a daily driver unless you have deep pockets... even when driving mine sensibly and conservatively to try and conserve fuel on longer trips, it would just rape the fuel. and when driving in full "attack mode" you could near enough watch the needle move! - i used nearly a 1/4 of a tank racing my friend for about 12 miles down a very narrow windy b/c road at night - i couldn't believe it! i had to limp it home on the light! sorry if that's sort of hijacking the thread. more on topic - i absolutely love the integras; my friend has a dc5 and it is fantastic - i was actually very close to buying one instead of the rado, but they don't have sound deadening and for a daily driver, especially if you do long runs, that can get a little tiresome. i got a lift back to work (approx 100 miles) with my friend a while ago, and while it was really good fun, i thought i wouldn't like to do that every weekend - give me the rado every time - such a good all rounder. also if you put all the things that come as standard on the 'teg onto a rado (front/rear strut braces - tegs even came with a lower rear strut brace, unsure about lower front. lsd, rear anti-roll-bar etc etc, then the handling of the rado should be getting on for somewhere much nearer that of a teg) and there's nothing wrong with jap cars either - love them and i would own one in an instant if there was something out there that moved me as much and was as rounded as the rado. (came very close to buying a civic type-r recently, but there are so many of them around, and other than the fact they have air-con, i would rather be driving the C) anyway, just my 2p :D - feel free to shoot me down/extract the urine as you like!
