VR6 timing chains. Few questions from the chaps that know.
MonkeyVR6 replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
Err...I didn't mean to start an argument chaps! I'll find a garage who can take off the rocker cover etc and get them to tell me (and show me) if the chains need doing. If they need doing, I'll get them done, if not...then I'll spunk the cash on some Weitec suspension. So instead of the ARZ Tuning 'chains kit', people seem to recommend getting the Mk4 Golf chains pack/kit from a Volkswagen dealership? I take it these kits are from the 2.8 V6 4Motion Golf's? -
Ok, so there is a lot of chat about the VR6 timing chains. Costs somewhere in the region of £700ish and while you're at it replace the clutch etc etc However, my car is soon to reach 99,000 miles and its due a service (all parts of which I've bought). However, when are the timing chains due? The performance is still spot on and the engine only has a slight tappet noise. So...why replace the timing chains?! I'm not saying I'm never going to do it, but I'd prefer to do it within the next 3 months - if it needs it - while I can still afford it before I move back to the UK. My intention is buy the kit from ARZ Tuning and then take it to my local dealership for them to fit the kit. When I last spoke to VW about it, they even recomended this kit as it came with updated/uprated bits of kit at a better price than they could offer. Anything else need doing while I'm at it? I'm going to have about £1000 to spend in a oner, I've already got a new gearbox, new clutch and all 3 of the front engine mounts are new. I'm trying to make the car 'future proof' with some preventive measures. All thoughts/opinions welcome.

Yes indeed, yes indeed! Its all about the living overseas allowances :D I'm finding insurance in N.Ireland pretty damn expensive. Anyone know of any good insurance companies that won't start panicing when you mention N.Ireland and Corrado VR6 in the same sentence? I'm paying €115pm here, and the cheapest I can find for when I move is £99pm! When I was 3 years younger, single, 5 points on my license it was £450 for the year with elephant.co.uk in England!

Just been down to my local Volkswagen dealership...the parts lady thinks I've made this number up! It doesn't exist on the system. She even changed the language to English and let me try and find it. Any other suggestions?

The bubble is soon to burst chaps, I'm due to leave Germany in a few months. Gutted. No more Autobahn antics, no more 19% discount at Volkswagen, no more tax-free Shell V-Power Racing 100 :( ...only plus point is that I've got up to £1000 max on the Corrado to cheer me up! I just have to decide how to. Was thinking of this: http://www.arz-tuning.de/shop/product_i ... n-Kit.html (+ Volkswagen dealer labour) Some Weitec suspension ...and a wheel refurb.

Might have to check thse badboys out at my local dealership...in Germany! Hope we've still got stock as I've got the old-style ones.

Is this offer going to happen anytime soon? I've just e-mailed you about wanting 7 litres of oil posted to a BFPO address. Also need some spark plugs, but forgot to mention that in the e-mail! -
Oh why thank you Mr.Onyekachi...(pistonheads classified)

Although the suggestions were good, I decided to choose one off the cuff: I have moved the car to Eastern Europe. Therefore I now request that you transfer the money to me in Euros. Lets call it 2000 Euros? Let me know if this is acceptable. Your son, being a weak indivdual, might struggle with the steering, as although having PAS, it is 20 years old and therefore slightly harder to turn than that of, for example, the new Jaguar XF. What are the details of your shipping agent? Your name suggest Chinese origin...I don't normally trust commies. Peace hommie. I have a dude flying from Glasgow to view the car tomorrow morning. Hopefully it'll be a sale. -
Chaps, I'm thinking of a change (yeah, I know...) and was wondering if anyone here, pref a VR6 owner, has also owned a Clio 182 and therefore could offer something of a comparision in performance/running costs/reliability etc. Cheers.

Hello, I saw your item for sale on http://www.pistonheads.com i have interest in it, kindly let me know if it is for sale, let me know the condittion and the final asking price. Thanks Mr.Onyekachi Hello, The car is indeed for sale. The final asking price is £700 ono. The condition of the car, as you can see from the photographs, is very good considering its its almost 20 years old. Regards, MonkeyVR6. Good day, Thank you for your message and your response ... I agree with the price, and I want to buy it for my son, I will pay £1700 But now I'm in china with a busy seminar and this is taking my time I do not want to delay the purchase, I want you to know that I will make my payment by check as this is the best way to pay for this ... and to enable this I need details of where you want me to send the check to 1) NAME 2) address 3) postal code/zip code I have a shipping agent who would come for the shipment of the product as soon as you get the cheque and confirmed that they have also cashed in your account Thank you very much and hope to read from you soon Thanks Mr Onyekachi Mulla --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is obviously a scam. The best suggested response will be e-mailed to Mr Onyekachi Mulla... :salute:

GAY. All you 'hommies' need to get a grip. Its not about MPG. If you want MPG, then buy another car. I can only hope that not many VR owners have read this, shocking - you punks should be ashamed of yourselves. Petrol is not that expensive and if it is...then get a better job so you can afford more of the fucking stuff. Fin.
-
Its tempting, but for €35 its a bit steep surely? Can't you just walk into a Volkswagen dealership and get the service history of the car?
-
off topic Bloody REME driving Corrado's! Corrados should be RMP only :lcop: I've got one of the 3 Corrado's based in BFG. Only 2 of which are VR6's.
-
and the rest! When I last looked a couple of years ago, the whole exhaust was about a £1000!
-
Anyone know if you can still get the 90mm one from VW? If so, how easy are they to fit?
-
You reckon you had a bad weekend? I crashed a Police car...
MonkeyVR6 replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Nah, not in my Corado! My ass would be t-o-a-s-t if I rolled deep, kitted up in full uniform, armed with baton, cuffs and pistol :nono: Plus, we get tax free cars out here, so while my Corrado is fast, its not going to be able to really cut it with a lot of the chaps I have to deal with driving their Focus RS' / ST's, Opel VXR's, Mazda RX8's and the odd Porsche and an Aston Martin to name just few. There is even a couple of Nissan GT-R's...but thankfully they're not in my area/county. -
Gents...I popped my cherry. My first real incident :epicfail: Wasn't a crash per se, but it was almost €4000 damage as I scrapped the side of one of our brand-new Police vehicles responding to assist other coppers. Gutted. Had to fill in loads of paperwork, write a statement etc. Just waiting to get my pants pulled down now. Worse bit about it that it was in full view of my German Civil Police (GCP) colleagues :nono: At least I got the chap who was causing the problem in the first place!

Tax free fuel bud :D Its the way forward.
-
I take it these are still available?
-
I just wanted to say that I get Shell Racing 100 RON petrol for less than 70p a litre. That is all.
-
Excellent, thanks a lot!! Ordered straightaway.[/quote:3evfeqoi] I ordered these and have just fitted them, the sidelight bulbs don't fit (I have LHD headlights) so I have to order slightly different ones. I'm yet to use them, hopefully I'll be able to see at night now :D

This is advice that has just saved me putting my fist into the nearest brick wall. Thankfully, my sunroof is now working fine.

It says those are for a Mk2 Golf?! :?

I can get any brand posted here via the British Forces Post Office (BFPO) system. Which one would most be suitable?
