  1. I noticed last night that the driver and passenger side lights in the window switches are not coming on, they definitely did come on as having only had the car a short while I was please to notice that they did work the first time i drove in the dark. The reason I checked last night was that I fitted a later sunroof switch (as I really don't like the crazy early switch, just felt like i'd snap it off) and wanted to see if the switch in that illuminated. It didn't and thats when i noticed the window switches. No idea if the two are related, may not have been work pre sunroof switch swap. All other dash lighting works as expected. The electric windows and sunroof all work as normal. Is it likely these are on a different fuse to the main dash lights? Not sure if it is related but I also realised my reverse lights don't work. Any help greatly appreciated - hardly a major one but certainly annoying!
  2. yeah i did two, both round the whole thing but one each side of the loom, and so far so good, car started fine this morning! Thanks everyone for their input!
  3. is it obvious where to use the zip ties to get the best grip? any advice?
  4. result! car now starting. It was the ignition switch. I had another ignition barrel with switch to try, went to take out the multi plug from current switch and the entire ignition switch pulled out, so likely it has previously broken and the person fitting couldnt be bothered with redoing the securing screw. I thought that might have the issued so I used a screw driver in the ignition switch but still no joy. Plugged into the second barrel and switch I had, turned the key and off we went! Really didn't make sense to me that it could be this as I could here the relay clicking at each position. The second barrel i have is due to replacing all the locks on the car, got that to fit and the original steering wheel so I think I'll get a fresh switch in there when i do that job. In the meantime I'll prob just slide the working switch into the existing barrel and use some zip ties as a temp bodge. back to the crank sensor - what problems might i get due to it not being connected?
  5. @phill - no noise coming from starter / engine, just clicking. i've had the battery charging again so i don't think its the battery, but i'll try and get a multimeter on it later to test voltage across it. I do have another ignition switch so i'll try that ---------- Post added at 10:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 9:19 AM ---------- if it is ignition switch would relay 18 still be activating? ---------- Post added at 11:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 AM ---------- [/color]Oh and yes, that circular thing should be round one I'd your ht leads. Which one I'm not sure? really - how would you route an HT lead through that hole? so it doesn't bolt to the block anywhere?
  6. My lovely new corrado (9a) is not starting. Nothing happenings at all, not even trying to turn over. Car is fitted with a cobra alarm system and immobiliser, which appears to be working ok. Immobilizer activated = nothing happens at all when turning key, no dash lights, no clicking or buzzing. De-activating immobiliser = turn key and dash lights come on as they should, turn to start and I can hear fuel pump prime and I can feel relay 18 clicking as you would expect, but no turn over at all. I thought perhaps the battery had died, though headlights, wipers windows all working as expected, have since given the battery a charge to make sure and still the same (jump start also doesn't help, haven't tried bump start yet). As all of the dash lights come on and relay 18 clicks, would you say this eliminates the ignition switch and the immobiliser from being the problem? I noticed the following not connected when I bough the car, at the time I thought it was the knock sensor, i've since googled the part number and the web tells me its a crank position sensor is that what it is? if so where should it be connected to and would it floating around like that mean that the car wouldn't start. It has been like that since I've had the car (3 weeks but only been using it in the last week). what else could it be? starter motor I guess? thanks peeps
  7. Hey all, good to be back using this forum - definitely one of the best around - lots of helpful information here, good to see its still going strong and hasn't just been replaced by some facebook page instead! Some may remember the red C I had back then: not too sure why but I got rid of that and enjoyed 3 years of open top motoring in a mk3.5 cabby - nice car, very comfortable and reliable, but no drivers car. I think perhaps the need to wax the red C every week to stop it looking pink may have been one of the major factors! anyway, finally saw the light and without really intending to buy another so quickly I found one locally and decided to go for it. Here she is so far thanks to this forum I fixed the broken central locking and electric mirrors, and hopefully soon I'll get some help with my idle issue. good to be back
  8. Hey all, I have searched and read lots on idle issues, but nothing seems to be quite the same as my 'problem' When I start the car from cold the car will idle at or just above 1000 for a while and then will slowly drop to about 900 as it warms. In my book, expected behaviour. While still getting to full temperature it idle at 900 pretty smoothly when pulling up etc, but very occasionally it will stay at 1200 and sometimes will rise up to 1700, a blip on the throttle will bring it back down to 900. Now when the car is properly warm, the above problem seems to go away but the car will idle at or just above 1000 instead of 900. I have cleaned and install another ISV and have the original one soaking in some carb cleaner (original was a black plastic coated item, new one was polished metal, both have VAG markings). Does this sound like the ISV still and I just haven't cleaned it well enough or something else. The previous corrado I had had a dodgy accel cable which caused idle to stick at about 1200 (pulling the accel pedal up with my toes used to solve that), so have ordered a new cable just to rule that out. Would cleaning the throttle body and butterflies also be worth doing in an attempt to cure this? thanks guys, even though the corrado is showing its 'character' with these little niggles I am so happy to be back driving one! Amazing machines!
  9. oops - didn't notice the date!
  10. if you want lots of functionality with your screen why not install a Google Nexus 7 tablet, i've done it in my cab and will be transferring to my new rado...
  11. is the fit as good as well?
  12. looks good, how you getting the wire through though, do you need to unthread the whole cable or can you get on over the gold coloured end piece? i've tried to fashion something myself, also at work, but its not quite as nice as yours! how much are we talking?
  13. I'm after the small clip that secures the bonnet release cable by the handle in cabin. It stops the out part of the cable moving when pulling the handle and only allows the wire cable to move. Let me know what you have or any other ideas on how to get round this problem

The interior is perfect, no rips or tears. recent new suspension, front and rear shocks and dampers (coilovers), rear discs and pads also recently replaced. Also had 2 new Falken tyres on the front for the MOT last November . wheels are rota cups. This is a great, fun car to drive, this 2.0 engine provides great low down torque, making it a lovely cruiser, hey if you go fast people can't see you, which is the point of of Cabrio isn't it!? Comes with full service history, approx 87k on the clock with MOT nov 2013 and Tax Nov 2013 cambelt replaced at 60k, this car has been well loved and not abused, unlike some. 1900 Ono, comes from a smoke and pet free home, not 'boy racer owned' , rather a mature VW enthusiast! This may look expensive compared to some other but it really is a great example and in one of the less common colours. Call Rob on 07921686456 for more information.
  16. how visible is the crack with it screwed on - i take the crack is at the top so obsucred a bit by body work...
  17. how much for the metering head and pipe (is this for all of it up to the throttle body ?) along with the ISV...?
  18. the above is true - re-inforced today by another chuftie a guy in a caterham gave the C a smile and a nod today on my way home. chufties always mean more when the come from a fellow enthusiast, especially outside of the VAG stable...
  19. well at the moment I thinking the unthinkable and looking to sell my rado, however a couple of evenings ago I was queuing in traffic, the other side of the road was also at a stand still, a couple of cars ahead on the other side I see this guy clock my wheels (just polished, looking very shiny in the sun!), i see him nod to himself and smile and then as we passed each other he gave me a thumbs up and a 'nice car mate' ...now honestly do you ever get that kind of reaction with any other car? To make people compelled to actually make a positive comment to a complete stranger is pretty amazing, especially in this day and age where just saying hello to the wrong person might get you a kickin, surely I'd be daft to sell it :cuckoo:
  20. just to add some info re sizes and offsets. my wheels are 8" ET35, needed at least 10mm of spacing (i put 15mm on, soon to be 20mm). I'm on coils....
  21. 2 great looking rados. your valver looks really well on the ronals - lower and and with some spacers and it would look awesome. i am slightly biased I suppose but for me an early valver edges it in the looks department, i think its the bonnet that does it. the bulge on later Cs makes the car look a bit front heavy in comparison. guess you only really notice when you put them side by side....
  22. from your avatar it looks like you have an early C with the slidey controls? I have the same and when I first got the car I could only get air blowing form the dash vents, nothing on the windscreen. I did a search on here and found a reference to a cog which can become dislodged in the flap diverting mech. sure enough had a look behind the centre console where all the gubbins is and found a little plastic cog on the floor. figured out where it had come from, popped it back in and viola!
  23. really cool looking car, the green with the cream touches look very good. as i was reading down the thread i was thinking 'looks good but needs dropping' then wayhay, coilies fitted! job done
