  1. I hate goodridge. I got the g60 kit - wrong ends for seating in caliper. Goodrich admit they use the wrong seat for the caliper, but say it "should" give a good seal.  I put this kit back, and got a new set made up through a performance garage - they supplied 2 out of 6 hoses correctly. :x :bad-words: I will speak to my garage tomorrow - he says he has had probs with them before. sorry - I had to get that off my chest!
  2. I have tried ate power discs and though they were crap. but that neing said, a brake disc is just a lump of metal. I have never had any of my zimmerman x-drilled discs crack. Ultimately brakes are a bit like suspension - it depends on your driving style whether they suit or not.
  3. i second that! had them on the golf cl (239mm) the golf 16v (256mm) and now have them on my corrado not driven the car yet, but i expect them to be excellent.
  4. it is no prob to run the engine with the charger drive belt off - just not for long without a water pump. Although the charger is turning at idle, all of the boost is being put out through the boost return buterfly on the throttle body.
  5. The road out of scotland, has more gatsos than fence posts. I try to avoid it! I like to go north. You should go some day. There are no speed cameras at all north of inverness - the roads are amazing. Doesnt that group drive thing not turn into a bit of a race? I am all for track days.
  6. Try http://www.grantmotorsport.co.uk/heads.asp I haven't used them myself, but have heard good stuff. Nice prices thats for sure :) There are 2 main 2 litre bottom ends ABF - tall block - from MK3 2l 16v 9A - Short Block- from corrado/audi 80 & coupe The ABF block has a 15mm longer stroke, so has a bit more torque throughout the range giving a smoother power curve. The 9A is the same stroke as KR but a bigger bore, so has the same power curve, just higher numbers! If you are going for really big upgrades you should consider: ABF has longer strock so in theory should not be able to rev as high as 9A. The ABF does have a knock sensor though, which is a benifit. My 2litre golf has the ABF makes for really easy driving - and with KR cams, makes it pretty fast! The ABF, 9A, and KR all use the same head. Hope this helps.
  7. Ant, would you have been able to remove the exhaust manifold as well? And do you think you could get a 4 branch manifold back up there? Just about to do this!! Not looking forward to it.
  8. In that case the discs could have become warped.
  9. Check to make sure the bolts wich hold the stearing rack are secure. There are four bolts either holding 2 bushes in u clamps round the rack on manual steering and on power steering 2 bolts go through rack, and two hold one bush round the rack. Also check that the bolt that holds the steering column to the rack is securely in place.

    ABS Light

There is a ring that slides onto the back of the disc, that the sensor senses (this is a little vauge, I can see it in my head but cant put it into words!) You have to take it off of the old disc and put in onto the new one. You will be able to see if they have done it. I will try to take a pic - my rear beam is lying on the ground under my car!
  11. I will swap grilles if you want to go with above sugestion - i want a VAG 3 bar grille.
  12. I noticed something when i was doing my online quote with elephant - they did not penalise me at all for my single sp30. They did add on £45 for suspension. Something I think of all the time is, the whole more or less than -45mm drop question. Does the insurance assesor really carry a tape measure - he didnt even get off his fat asss to asses my mk2, he just looked at the book whilst sitting in his drivers seat! Also what is the difference between OEM shocks, kwikfit shocks, nameless shocks and Koni or avo shocks. Just because it is a 'performance' brand? are they penalising you for buying a better quality product?  I hate insurance companies
  13. What engine u got, I cant read the badge on your avatar! Could it be a leaking injector?
  14. Hi, I am doing a bit of work on my car just now, including replacing the timing belt and tensioner. I have the bentley CD but my computer has died a spectacular death, and I cant install the CD at work :( . All i need to know is the marks to line up the cam shaft and crank shaft to. I do have a haynes manual for the golf, I had assumed that setting the timing would be the same as ont he 8v gti, but there is an arrow on the belt cover and 3 dots on the cam pulley teeth just to make things less than straight forward in that typical VW way. What do I line what up with?

    My cars

You are not the only one who can play the tornado red corrado and golf game! :) the fiat has nothing to do with me at all. I promise. nothing.
  20. I am from Wick, studying in Edinburgh.
  21. I have bought the system, thanks for your help guys.....I am putting the car in for MOT when I get it going again around end sept. Will let you know if there are any probs! Andrew
  22. there are two, go in paralell to the rear calipers. (a right and left one). Also get the clip that hold the cable to the rear beam, (£1 Ea) to stop the cable rubbing on the wheel.
  23. In case you are intersest, a freind is selling a set of those infinity reference 603c components (£70 - as new), you can check them out on infinty web site the current range is 605cs, it has similar spec to 603c. Type: 6-1/2" 2-Way Component System Speaker Impedance: 4 Ohms Power Handling: 90W RMS, 270W Peak Frequency Response: 54Hz – 20kHz Sensitivity: 92dB Crossover Frequency: 3.5kHz Mounting Depth: Woofer: 2-1/16" (53mm) Tweeter: 1-3/16" (31mm) Cut-out Diameter: Woofer: 5" (127mm) Tweeter: 1-3/4" (45mm) One major difference in these speakers to yours are that these are not multi-element (I think that is the term) that is to say, in the centre of your big speaker is a stalk with the tweeter - right? These infinity's are two seperate speakers. Think of the area of the woofer missing or blocked because of the tweeter on yours. All that sound is missing! You see the difference in Halfrauds between any of the the two types. see what you think first - there will be a big difference in sound and price! Like I said at the start - you get what you pay for.
  24. the first thing to do is replace the handbrake cables. It is the cable that seizes first, then because the caliper doesnt move it seizes too. If you take the cables out from the caliper, and pull the handbrake lever, if it is still stiff, there is the problem. You could try taking caliper off, get it on a bench and assuming it is not already solid, try to free mech. out. Hand brake cable £8 Ea from stealler. Let us know the outcome. HTH Andrew
