If its the same arm thing i think you're on about i may still have this on my 1.816v breaker. will find out and let you know this weekend if you have no joy. Andy.

If you get stuck and are not bothered about shame and embarrassment i have some 15" 3 spoke alloys on my breaker (see thread for pics) that possibly will be coming off hopefully in the next month. Tread is ok but the wall on one or two of them is slightly cracking. location 5mins north of Halifax/Bradford. Andy.

Had the similar happen to mine a while back and it took weeks and different mechanics to figure out but it was the same as what Wullie' mentioned. Turned out some previous DIYer changing the timing belt didn't go down the right path and had the crank pulley off but didn't put it back on tight enough or something and it wore the crankshaft key down on the inside. Timing and everything looked spot but it just wouldn't pull at all when it should have been spinning its wheels off. should be fairly straight forward to check once the pulley is off to see the inside of it if like mine the remains of the key are smeared about the place or missing. goodluck!

Hi. good luck with your search. can't comment on vr6 as mines a 1.8 16v. yes there have been niggles but nothing too major and i've put over 50k on it in all conditions as a daily and many on here have probably done twice that i'm guessing. still makes you smile even when not behaving. If no luck I do have a mk2 8v GTI for sale in all original condition ;) p.s. 'Murdo', not heard that for ages! my old nickname from school, and i thought i was the only one.

Probably a bit late onto all this (i usually am) but I'm going with time of year theory on all this. Like some sort of seasonal lull perhaps. Talking of seasons I don't think anything's been mentioned about the impending tubby dude in red robes and 'C' word which is probably starting to be in the back of people minds. Like its been mentioned already many on here like me have young families, house moves and other things going on etc which buy up time that could/should be spent tutting at disintegrated plastic clips or stepping back pleased at another job finished on a truly cool car and relaying it on here regardless of flavour. I thought my ongoing project would be running next week but in reality it's next summer now, or I'd be posting more. Certainly don't think its gone so quiet? To finish, this forums great in many ways, for a laugh and for cost saving figuring out stuff you never knew before. Effort is a big requirement these days in most things as time becomes a premium, so I applaud all involved in the effort put in to running this site and others too. I'd be stuffed without it. Cheers
