It moved, and under its own power for first time in over 3 years and moved well. gearbox issue sorted, slave cylinder had popped out too far during swap over and refused to go back in despite a decent sized hammer being involved. stuck a gallon in the tank and primed it a few times and it fired. very surprising at smoothness but satisfying indeed. Brakes/clutch all bled, ignition coil replaces and a few other bits addressed and drove of the ramp. So a massive leap forward in all respects. Issues noted so far, water temp gauge isn't registering?? and I've added the heater matrix vw recall/fix that was on the breaker. not 100% convinced its right. If anyone else has that fix on their valver I'd appreciate some pics and pointers just to make sure I've got the flow right before a blow! Next, bonnet and bits on followed by pics of it not covered muck!

wow, great thread and work in relative short time too considering all home done. DBP is cooool

silly. just sell it. won't be too much difference in price except ones a clean cut sale and the other leaves you with a pile of dregs you end up giving away.

well said James, the 8v is a pretty relentless engine with reliability wise which probably favours your point. Fingers crossed mine will be back on the road within a few months and I'll be driving it as much as possible. That said Leyland all comers VW gathering this weekend just gone didn't have a single show from a corrado, mainly vans etc only a handful of older GTI's too

Tornado Red parts and lots of other parts going cheap!

what style seats/condition did you have in there also exhaust, after market or standard? Thanks -
good effort. and another tip for hiding places for us parents to search.

Am i right in thinking the ISV can build up muck over time and a good clean and back on is also a good quick fix?

my daughter used to 'post' things into my (large) speaker tweeters etc. Wasn't till we had a move round we realised one was full of stuff. i blame Pat the postie. Keep on the search, no spare then? If not i have a ignition barrel/column and key knocking about :)

I know, not great I'm afraid was really hoping to get it sorted. Got old engine out ok, and replacement in after a struggle. real tight fit. I wanted the gear box out the way etc first so we could lower it in with a bit more room and to make it a bit easier but father-in-law pressed on clattering it about instead. Time was against us in the end and with it being on a farm and the weather turning good, it was all hands on deck getting the grass cut, bailed, wrapped and stacked so i spent more time flying up and down in a JCB than with the car over two weekends. Its now been moved off the ramp and put to one side. I got another couple of hours on it and got it plumbed back in, sorted vacuum pies, air box and most of the wiring. it was then I was told he'd noticed the clutch pedal was stuck up when he moved it off the ramp but forgot to tell me... so gear box has to be dropped out of it after all. sounds like somethings trapped. i know its not seized as it was working fine the previous weekend. Drivers seat has been ripped and bolster wrecked too in my absence along with it been knocked occasionally and stuff piled on it like a shelf ffs.... so frustrating and you want to say something but you can't. I was literally less than an hour from sticking a battery in and giving it a try. Won't be up for a few weeks now, just hope its not been backed into by a tractor like most things have :(

looked good. sorry i never made it, as i though was away all weekend. plus Bora wold have been a bit sad next to those. The Mk2 i have isn't currently insured. However, weekend was spent productively re-engining the rado. got it in (with a struggle) just plumbing and wiring up to go. Then once I know its working, some new stuff to be bolted on and hopefully I'll be able to joint the next one. Andy.

Wierd that you can't shift it, you tried golf people? car is deffinately worth more broken than weighed in. I might have the cross member lying about and surplus mounts you could have, its in west yorks BD13 near Halifax if thats any use if you're ever passing. no posting sorry

As said before, are Corrado's one of thee most hit cars going considering the odds/numbers of them? must be up in the top 5 surely? Hopefully there's a sensible solution to this soon for you. But as above, same happened to a mate of mine, were his rado was hit by someone pulling out of a road end, door bust in, glass sent across the cabin, written off, bought it back gathered up bits himself and got a local garage to sort the rest and still with money in pocket. Only problem he had going down the write off option was proving a current value to insurers by having to send in evidence of similar cars adverts and sales to counter their measly offer?! I wouldn't worry too much about future sales, if its documented what it was. is it just the door skin or is the window mech bent too?

So, later than hoped but a trailer turned up last weekend with winch. Car behaved and rolled out nicely despite being sat for a bit. no stuck brakes! Got this GTI instead to sell in the mean time, Father in law didn't want me "cluttering up his sheds with old vw's" oops. In its new home for the time being straight to work on problem parts that I'd saved from the breaker and gathered over time. knackered fuel pump first. came off a treat, much easier than i thought it would be. Newish one with shiny bits! Engine unplugged, unplumbed and freed off, it was then we discovered someone had "borrowed" the lift so tools down till next time. Bit manky underneath, so definitely going to address that with a good clean up and weatherproofing, tempted by a powder coated rear subframe ideally but i don't have the time as car is over 50 miles away so not every weekend i get chance.

nice, do like the styling on this model. Apart from the turbo and bits its the similar engine i had in my Galant sport (4G63 eng code?) it was bullet proof. Have fun!

I had the old 7 slat one on my valver but it was cracked and i preferred the look of the 3 slat one so got one from the bay. I knew already the lower lugs are in different places so just cut and re-attached were needed. But yes, it was a blanked out one. Stuck it on anyway and it ran hot quicker, as these cars need air over the nose and dislike queuing (well mine did) I cut out the blanks and all was good if anything on the move ran lower than the 90 dead centre. Advice would be cut one open not both and see how it goes. if need be then the other, this at least gives you more options instead of all at once.

looks smart. loads of work going on and the end result getting better all the time. nice idea with spoiler, but not for me. maybe tint the rear lights ?

no problem at all.

In Preston lancs but also travel a fair bit to west yorks. I'll dig out glass as its in a shed at parents somewhere and check but certain its fine as the reason i originally got it is because mines also scratched.

Just drivers side side left now.
