I'll find out tomorrow but hoping for the best. If it has it will be a shame as this head has angled valve seats and is ported and polished. I'm staying positive and going to get the inlet mani powder coated whilst it's off
-
Stick with it, it can be a lot worst, trust me. Where do you live?
-
Sort of. These engines are a lot more common in America than here. The biggest difference is the water pump is external and not driven by the cambelt
-
Just speculating but I think the last time I had it out I must have had the belt jump on the cam sprocket and now the valve has been hitting the piston until it's bent enough not to come back up. This would explain it not wanting to start although I didn't hear any bad metallic sounds but it is quite a loud engine with the induction, exhaust and injectors tapping away

I've had a bugger of a day. Tried to start the car again this morning, it wouldn't and then the engine locked up. A little bit of poo came out and so I popped the plugs out and cranked it by hand. Good news that the engine still rotated but not a full revolution. Thought the worst and dropped off the sump to check for any interference after the new sump baffle and windage tray. No problem there so put it all back together. Took off the cambelt cover and found this: Bad times! Cam cover off and have found a dropped valve on no.4 cylinder So I've set about taking everything off ready to lift the cylinder head for further investigation You can see the port work now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This sump is from a mk2 Golf 8v PB engine with the oil drain for the turbo welded in. My 20v block is the 058, older style which is essentially the same as the 8v and 16v block such as PB, KR, 9A, ABF etc. Originally from a 1999 Passat. It's now a bit of an oddball but being VW, lots of different parts fit

Thanks Hasan. Moral of the story is do not buy cheap parts, the wheel studs are high tensile steel so should be a good upgrade
-
The newly baffled sump is back on and looking good with no leaks now. There is a new oil filter on and yet another lot of fresh oil. The car fired up but didn't idle well, stalled and now has refused to fire again. I'll try again tomorrow but will get the cold start map checked out when the car is at the dyno in a month or so

I'm looking to swap the wheel bolts over to wheel studs. I bought one to check the fitment and I like it so more have been ordered Putting the wheels bolts back in I stupidly sheared one of them. Hopefully I can get some grips on the bit that is left in the hub and get it back out easily. Lesson learnt, don't fit cheap wheel bolts. This is unlike me and everything else on the car cost a small fortune, can't believe I skimped on something so vital Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What work are you having done?
-
I've just started using Autofinesse Dressle. I bought it to use around the engine bay mainly but works well on the interior too
-
They are the originals currently. One of the next jobs is to change the selector and cables to the 02J setup, luckily I have one in the loft. The distance of the throw between the gears is ridiculous as standard and I'm sure the car is dropping out of boost before I can get another gear in http://clubgti.com/showthread.php?193257

I'll be there and making some more power too by then. I think it's April 22nd. Good luck on the drive shafts, I hate that job -

Your car looks brilliant Stu. Did you sort your cv joints out? Will you have this out at the next ECR meet? -
I've got the baffle insert in the sump, just waiting for the lads in the welding department at work to tack it into place. I'm going to have to swap out the current windage tray to the older style diesel one though to make it fit Ive had these solid gear selector mounts kicking about for a while. I have family in the USA, so got them to bring them over. Made by Phenix Engineering And fitted. Should tighten up the gear change apparently Also fitted my HEL Performance braided clutch line Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Has it arrived yet?

Bally's blue Corrado was one of the major influences which led to me wanting one. Thoughts go out to his young family RIP
-
Have you had the camber and alignment checked out?
-
Not a problem, I've ordered one this morning but thanks

I've dropped the sump off as I had an oil leak at the joint to the block. All looks good and clean so that's good news. You can see the forged rods with ARP bolts and the forged pistons just. Has anyone fitted a different coolant expansion tank? I want to get the Porsche coolant cap on but the corrado thread diameter is smaller. I have this spare tank for a seat Leon so am going to adapt it to fit Also, can someone point me in the direction of baffles to insert into my current oil sump? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

the re-trim looks the business

Part of the package for more power arrived today in the form of Bosch 630cc fuel injectors The car is also booked in for a full custom 3” exhaust to replace the current 2.5” jetex. I’m still pushing towards 300bhp as the magic number but I suspect the turbo will be the next weak point and I'd rather spend on a lsd before a hybrid turbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll put an order in for some of those
-
Not a problem. I'll send it tomorrow if that's ok
