A performance cam will lift the valve higher and open it for longer so the valve returns with a little more force due to the extra compression of the spring (because of the extra lift) and more abruptly due to the longer duration of the lobe.

Me too, GLWS Mine on standard suspension -
Well the 20+ year old springs must have lost some tension in that time, a recon head will have had the seats recut allowing the valve to seat a little lower and the now weaker springs aren't as compressed as much as before either (a non hydro head would need thinner shims to compensate for the valve seat cut). I have INA tappets bought from an ebay seller, used tappets of unknown origin still in a head in the garage loft and access to accurate calibrated scale to within a gram. It would be easy to compare old and new springs but I don't currently have new springs

No one ever seems to replace the valve springs, maybe this could also be the cause of valve train clatter?
-
Drain it out of the bottom, refill through the shift tower hole with the specified amount of oil. Otherwise its heat on the alloy casing after making something to turn the remains of the filler plug. Alloy expands greater than steel - a can of freeze spray for the bolt after the heating of the casing may also help get the plug out.

I'd recommend you source parts for the resto from off the forum (lilfuzzer or purple tom to name but two of the forum sellers that have many hard to find bits and pieces many of which are now obsolete or astronomical to buy new). That's not to say others here don't also have what you need should you place wanted ads in the classifieds, ebay / facebook can be a bit hit and miss on both quality and despatch times too. Good luck
-
Wow. What budget do you have for the resto? Have you owned Corrados before?
-
The pads are a totally different shape, I very much doubt it.
-
Nothing will fit your corrado. The good news is if the calliper slider threads in the hubs are OK (many are stripped) they're very sought after so you should be able to sell them on (NSF are like gold dust) to get your money back

Excellent news

Turn the wipers off with the ignition on. Ignition off and keys in your pocket (the wiper rack is a little guillotine that can mangle fingers!) The wiper motor and rack should now be in alignment ready to pop the linkage back on
-
There's a short linkage that stops both wipers when it pops off, then there's a long linkage that joins the two wiper arms together. You can lever off the other end of the short linkage without removing the wiper assy from the car, press the new linkage on using a G clamp and a suitable sized socket to clear the ball joint whilst pushing the new linkage home. A 2 minute job.

Not wanting to step on fendervg's toes but I too need a VR6 ABS unit.
Dox replied to FasthunVR6's topic in Wanted
Am I 100% sure they're exactly the same? No. Do the early MK3s have similar looking pumps and ECUs with the same part numbers as the Corrados. Yes. Not every Corrado has EDL and a suffix of E on the ABS ecu. There should be just enough wiring to connect it to the pump without swapping the actual unit, then scan it with VCDS. I took a chance fitting a pump with a different part number but physically the same as the one removed and it worked for me (with the light on the dash ABS is disabled anyway), it was sold to me as a Corrado pump. These cars are all over 20 years old, who knows what currently fitted to them? -
Neither, I suspect 239mm, you need to look for 2L engines and above for 280s as a general rule.

Early MK3 Golf gtis have the same ecus and similar pumps (ECUs under the rear seat), I suspect the one I have fitted now is a Golf unit as it has a different part number to the one I removed. Mine had wheel sensors, ABS pump (I trialled various ecus too) and ultimately a pedal sensor before my system became reliable, I suspect most systems have been faulty / intermittent for so long many cars will need to replace a few items before the fix is permanent. -
5.5 and 2.5, no plans on selling either TBH

There's a set on CGTi in their classifiesd, collection only from Cambridge http://www.clubgti.com/forumdisplay.php?11-Classifieds

The best advice is to decide on a budget and stick to it - don't get sucked in to the drama of it all and get carried away. Don't stick to round numbers (£10K, £20K etc) go one bid higher, Ive seen lots of people lose out by one increment higher, so be prepared to go £10,500, £20.500 etc. I bought my house at auction

I've never heard of a 288mm 4 stud polo disc. You could try both MK4 or MK3 discs as there offset is different, both would have to be drilled 4 x 100 should the offset be correct
-
Fronts? Originally using 288mm discs on the MK4? 4 stud hubs? If yes I believe you need 284mm Fiat coupe non turbo front discs, I've not done this myself, but it has been mentioned a few times on CGTi so may be worth asking on there for a definitive answer? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Fiat_Coupe_2.0_1999/p/car-parts/regular-service/car-service-parts/brake-discs/?10458007A&1&8d4ca3bb4afa565087942a5d6346b004dbce4c13&000027 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_1.8_1992/p/car-parts/regular-service/car-service-parts/brake-discs/?10444030A&1&2a9a235a83bc06046f05c7acb6dc2f29debe947d&000027 Looks like its not a straight fit, PCD and centre bore of the discs are both different and would need some machining (presuming I've searched the correct disc?). The usual upgrade is VR6 callipers and carriers (early MK3 golf or Corrado) and use a G60 front 280mm 4 stud disc which is a bolt on fit
