Take pics of the before damage and the build up too, if you ever come to sell the car you can show exactly what damage resulted in the cat C marker on the V5 because to most people cat C = write off = "must have been on its roof" assumption when its actually an uneconomical repair if using new OE parts and paint to original spec EDIT You don't need the car painted and finished for the VIC, just road legal - in a condition to pass the mot on that day, dented / or wrong colour panels are OK, but lights etc must be good working order

You can wait weeks for a VIC appointment depending on your location and slots available, save all receipts for items you buy to repair it too. You'll most likely need to re MOT the car afterwards too as the cat C marked invalidates the original MOT more often than not.

The car would need to be insured to get it taxed, no MOT would put me off buying it TBH. With winter around the corner not to mention the expense of xmas I'd be tempted to mothball it until easter if it were mine...... But you only need one buyer :)

I'm sure I've read here that part of the bonnets inside skin has to be cut on the corrado as it catches on the VSR (not needed on the Golf / Vento / Passat VR6s). The Corrado has a redesigned bonnet with more clearance for the VR6

If there's no play in the hinge pins there's no point replacing them. In the past I've put a trolley jack (with a rubber sanding block on top to prevent damage to the paint) under the door concerned and used my weight on the sill to bend the door skin back to its previous position. Easy as you go, you don't have to do it all in one go! It may be worth getting someone to stand on the outside of the door to prevent it slipping off the jack. My VR rattles / taps a bit on start up (8V MK2 Golf also was tappety from cold), lets face it they're 20 years old and a 30 year old design and shouldn't be compared to the majority of modern cars.
