"the rear end would upset some of the less innovative purists.." Sorry if I am getting the wrong end of the stick, but surely innovation is doing something that no-one else has done. Not making it the same as the others in Europe so it can compete??! Especially when IMHO it is not an improvement. Sorry Lee  This could go on forever! :) J

Perhaps I could start a forum auction for them! :) Unfortunately Ben I don't think the wheels will be going anywhere for a while, not unless I get bored of polishing the rims! Jay -

Found some arty pics my mate took at inters of my motor, so figured as I haven't put any up for a while I would post them. -
Right I am going to be honest. I keep looking at the pictures and I think the tailgate and number plate in the bumper ruin what is otherwise a totally perfect car. Everything about the car is absolutely right, the stance, the wheels, the colour, the interior, but the back end looks too much like a kevved up astra for me. Sorry Lee. Still awesome though and if you like it then thats what matters! :) Jay

Just shut the windows and you can't hear it! :D

I don't know how much you would have to pay for new parts, but I know its a pain in the ar5e of a job to do. I actually replaced mine when I rebuilt the head so that made it easier to do. Jay

ITS THE DOWNPIPE OR MANIFOLD!!!!!!! :) Seriously I have totally re-built my engine from the ground up, twice, its not pinking that Jim is on about its a different noise, that dissapears as the revs get higher and goes up exactly in relation to engine revs. It can be caused while a front engine mount is knackered and remains afterwards even with a "serious" one. Jim replace the exhuast manifold, the gasket, the studs, the downpipe and both gaskets and the front engine mount if it is knackered and I bet you it will go away. Jay
-
I thought it was the big ends, so did them all drove down the road and there was the noise again. Big ends is a much deeper knocking, the one Jim and I are on about is like a ball bearing in a plastic cup. The only time I got rid of it was when I put a different downpipe and manifold on, but it came back shortly after my front engine mount packed up. Jay
-
Looking good. Just wondering how come you have earlier lights and earlier bonnet on an N reg car?? Or have I missed something? Jay
-
Jim, I am pretty sure the noise is caused by a leak/crack in the downpipe, or downpipe gasket. I replaced my downpipe a while back and it stopped. It is not pinking, its a very different noise. The best way I can describe the noise is like a ball bearing rattling in a plastic cup. However since my front engine mount went it has started again, as it was a second hand downpipe and I reckon it has caused the same problem again. I am almost 100% certain that is what it is as I have replaced everything and as I say, when I replaced the downpipe it went away. Let me know if you do it and it stops. I am planning on an engine swap but at least if I can get rid of the noise while I am getting everything sorted I will be happier. Jay

I got all excited then, I thought I had finally found my donor for the V6 4 motion. :)

SPRINGS-G60 1990 springs on a 93 16V 2.OL-will they work??
24V Renshaw replied to rooray's topic in Exterior
Yes they will fit, the poundage should be similar too as the 16v engine is similar to the G60. Jay -
To set the timing on a G60, you want to start the car let it warm up and then disconnect the blue connector on the water pipe at the front of the head. Then increase the revs to 2500 RPM and set the timing to the mark on the flywheel. 7degrees. Re-connect the blue connector then raise the revs three times. That will be bang on. Jay

James, You should be able to get a Caramel wheel from somewhere like Rainbow paints on the Ferndown industrial estate, or brown brothers on alder hills. Jay
-
Looks very nice mate, need to see it in the flesh though. I assume you are going to Edition 38 in September? J
-
NO NO NO NO!!!! Don't use solvents on glues and silicones on bodywork. Use what the trade call a "caramel wheel". Its basically a 3" rubber disc that you put in an electric drill. ITs what all the bodyshops use to remove sticky glues etc.. Use one of them James and you will have it all removed in minutes. You should be able to get one from any bodyshop supply shop. Jay

Mine gets confused looks at the Stealers, the salesmen are the funniest when they see the TT dash in a Corrado they get very confused.   Then they see the Porsche, seats and the Porsche wheels!  Actually it gets confused looks everywhere, even at VW shows! :D Jay -
I am running just a BBR chip and only a 71mm Pulley and saw 200BHP and 193lb'ft of Torque on the rollers at Stealth. The only other mod I have is a De-cat pipe so you should have at least that if everything is set-up and running correctly. Not sure what Boost I am running, but I guess it can't be too bad. :) J
