  1. Ouch. I reckon you could glue it back on Andy ;) Jay
  2. Will be coming to this, but obviously not in a Rado yet. Inlaws live about 1 mile away which is handy :) Jay
  3. Seen a dark green VR on BBS RC's a few times on the way to work now, around the Moston area. Jay
  4. Got there too late yesterday and it was pooring with rain so I think everyone had gone, saw Gareth driving across the field as I arrived. Will be coming to Harewood next weekend though. :) Jay
  5. I always use a passat heater box. Its slightly different due to the higher centre tunnel (like the Corrado) and the studs tend to all line up. The hole through the bulkhead for the evap pipes is different (kind of a big triangular grommet). I used a 50mm panel punch to cut this out. Jay
  6. Easiest way to cut the holes in the bulkhead is with a panel punch, very neat and tidy. Jay
  7. I love the way you say that like it was the garden hose!! Coil pack and leads look better than you described mate. Jay
  8. Will hopefully pop along to this to make me even more desperate to get another C :) Jay
  9. After selling the Corrado I did have a 964 (911) for a while, but then I sold that to buy an engagement ring and bought a 4motion, which I then sold and bought another project Corrado, but then I broke that and bought an Audi A6 Avant, which I then sold and bought the MK4. but also in amongst all that we got married, had a baby, bought a house and bought an X5 as the family car. :) Jay
  10. Yeah update your thread on here chap as they will all understand exactly what has been achieved here! Amazing work!
  11. Looking forward to seeing this again tomorrow Gareth. Jay
  12. Well as I expecting, driving Andys lovely VR this evening has cemented my intentions. Even the missus is happy for me to get another one again. I was actually surprised how good it felt to be back in a C. As Andy will happily admit, his car has things he wants to do but it's a lovely drive and proved to me I don't have Rose tinted specs on when it comes to the Corrado. Thanks fella. I am in no hurry so will try and take my time to find exactly what I want and continue to improve the MK4 before I finally sell it. Jay
  13. Totally Agree Kev and this is the key thing I think. A Corrado itself if well looked after and maintained is actually a very solid and incredibly reliable car in my experience. As I have said before in this thread, the "maintenance" side of things is not even a concern to me, its simply the step back into an older car and I guess the loss of "luxuries" you get with that and whether I could live with that day to day. I suppose if I am honest with myself I will end up fitting things like climate control as its a days work.., but its the cumulation of all the little things that will not be there that I think might bug me.... Mind you I want to track this one too, so maybe I should live with the compromise :) jay
  14. Some interesting points coming out here. I must admit the maintenance side of things is not a worry for me, the single thing I am not 100% on is going back to an older car for day to day driving. One comment I have to admit I will never think is "get something too special and you won't want to use it". I would 100% rather use it than not however special it may be. Jay
  15. I guess part of my problem is that I modernised my previous Corrado completely and it had everything that makes a modern car more daily useable, but in a Corrado shape and soul. I will drive Andys and see how I feel, but I have a feeling I will want one even more then! I guess if I find the right Corrado it will have most of the nice bits anyway and any level of maintenance does not worry me to be honest, I just want to be able to drive it every day. Jay
  16. Some useful and very flattering comments, cheers guys. :) When I say zero time, I service, maintain and generally tinker with any car I have, so I still have time to "look after" the rado and that always means upgrades :) I guess a big part of it for me is the social aspect too. I miss popping round to see a fellow rado nutter for a brew. :) Anyone fancy a swap for a 1.8T MK4 with cream leather recaros ;) Jay
  17. ...its reading your signature that makes me question it though ;) LOL Jay
  18. Afternoon all. despite having a browse on here quite a bit, its been a while since I was on here properly. Main reason is simply every time I come on here I want another Rado. This is my situation. Currently my "daily" is a BMW X5. I know I know :) We are expecting our second child and therefore my wife will be back off work again and would ideally have the BM as her car. So that leaves me with her 1.8T MK4 Golf. Now its a great car, runs well, comfy etc.. etc.. but it does nothing for me and I want something I look back at when I walk to pay for petrol. You all do it :) Can enjoy a proper drive down a country lane, round a track, across europe etc..etc.. but also drive 40 mile round trip on the motorway to work every day. So. My issue is this, which I have sort of convinced myself about anyway, but thought it was a good discussion point. If I get a Corrado VR as a daily, which is my plan, will I get fed up with the car being old and start tinkering and end up with a full on project again, which I have zero time and money for. Or would I be able to live with a "standard" i.e just nice wheels, suspension, brakes etc.. and be happy with it just getting it properly tidy, clean and reliable. I had a long chat with Andy earlier (Mr C5 OEM) and am seriously in the mood for it now, so much so that I am going to have a drive of his VR to remind me of exactly what I am missing/could live without :) So has anyone gone from a "modern" car back to a Rado as a daily? Discuss Oh and it feels good to be back! Jay
  19. Of course I appreciate it is an incredibly narrow market, but I would only be expecting to do one a year at most and I would to a large degree be doing it because I would enjoy it, as lets face it the hourly rate would be shocking! LOL If there is someone who wants a reliable modern version of the corrado with all the features of modern cars, but without removing any aspect of the Corrado which makes it great then this is for them. I was pricing it based on a quote I got from a well known VW Tuner for an engine only conversion of a 24v, dropped into a VR, and spliced into the VR loom, which was £5800. This is purely just a replacement of the engine, so if you then added climate control, cruise control, MK4 Alarm and key and all the functionality I am talking about you would be well up towards 10K for them to do the same I would imagine. If they would even entertain the idea at all. Of course people could buy an already converted car with all the MK4 loom etc installed to the standard I am talking about, but there is only one I know of in the UK at least and that is my old one, which I sold for £11,500 :D Of course the R32 option also opens up a huge potential in power and all the upgrades you can buy and install on a MK4 R32 could be added to this kind of install, as again you are basically dealing with a MK4 in a corrado bodyshell. Even Haldex would work if someone decided to go 4x4  :) Cheers Jay
  20. An R32 install would be the same money as installing the whole loom from either car will be the same. :) The engine and loom from a 4motion would be about £600/£700 I would think and the same from an R32 about £1200/£1500 Jay
  21. OK rough idea of price for now would be £5500 if the engine, loom etc..were supplied. I would warrant all aspects of the install functionallity for 12months after it was complete, this would not include any mechanicals (brakes, suspension, gearbox etc..) as I would not be getting involved in those. :) Jay
  22. I would assume all other aspects of the car could be updated and improved by the owner before or after I had completed the install, in the same way they would be if a conversion had not been done. Mods - Can I put a price up? Jay
  23. As many of you know I installed a 24V V6 MK4 Golf 4motion engine and full MK4 Golf wiring loom into my Corrado a couple of years back and its still going strong under Vick N's ownership. I am thinking of offering up the service of doing the same install into any Corrado VR6 and wanted to gauge the interest from you guys if I was to do it. This is not a normal "engine" swap as I would also install and integrate the entire MK4 Golf loom as I did in mine, from the the headlights to the rear lights. This conversion would give the following advantages over an engine only swap - Fully functional 24v V6 or R32 with all functionality of a factory engine. - Complete MK4 Golf Wiring Loom, fusebox, relays etc.. - Fully functional cruise control - MK4 Golf ABS System - MK4 Golf ignition key and barrel - MK4 Golf Alarm and remote central locking off the same key - Fully functional VAG-COM diagnostics of whole car - MK4 Golf stalks - MK4 Climate control (not the aircon system but digital climate control) There are many other benefits of this type of conversion, such as installing factory audio, fuel pump priming on opening drivers door, interior light dimming on door closure, door open warnings etc. etc.. Everything a MK4 does your Corrado could do the same, including all the MK4 factory optional extras. I would be intending to offer this conversion for the same price as an engine only install (won't quote prices on here as this is not an advert, just gauging interest) Obviously as I work full time in my normal job, the conversion would take something like 6 months to complete, but to an incredibly high standard of fit and finish. Would people be willing to wait that long for the conversion to be done? So your thoughts/questions please, is it worth me doing? Cheers Jay For those that don't know my car, this is the original build thread. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5413&hilit=24v+renshaw&start=195 This is a picture of the finished article, but obviously does not show the wiring and all the underpinnings.
