Window Rollers - on hiatus due to c*ck up

One set please just incase :) -
Cant see me running 15s mate, can you ;) Think I will be fitting the 312s. Jay

I have fitted Mk4 calipers and 312 carriers to my last corrado before with the 6mm stainless washers I made. In fact I think I still have some somewhere spare. It was just the calipers I have bought this time are 288mm ones but I have no idea what car they are from. So it looks like I can fit any 288mm calipers to 312 carriers. Oh and Gareth surely I would want 312mm discs?
-
Does anyone know if the 288 calipers will work with MK4 312mm carriers? Cheers Jay

Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)

Ideally I could have put a vapour barrier in but there is plenty of ventilation above the insulation in the roof so it will be fine without a vapour barrier. To be honest I am just looking to make it more comfortable while I work out there, a bit better for the car to be in and brighter too which it already is. I plan to insulate the garage door and also the side door, but they will be done later. Should get the car in tonight as I am just finishing the last bit of the ceiling this evening. Jay -

Garage is progressing. Walls all insulated, boarded and now painted white to help with light in there. Insulation of the ceiling behind the panels should help nicely and prevent condensation. Just got to finish the ceiling panels and insulation tomorrow and tidy up, then the car can go in :) :) Jay -
Almost as though someone has fitted early clocks and made them work on the VR.... Jay

Love the attention to detail documented on your thread Kev. I used the AUE 24v in my Rado and it never missed a beat in the three years I ran it daily after the conversion and still hasn't 6 years on.. Literally nothing going on it. Awesome engine, just needed a little more oomph! Jay

Lucky number 7 - sold but 911 in its place

Anders Ranbo was my teenage hero :) Always loved that car! Come on spill the beans on the wheels! I want those exact wheels on my car, but just can't find any in the old school style, in the right size, offset etc.. Jay -
Yep. Second that. Common problem on a lot of cars. Had the same on my X5. Any of the bushes on the front wishbones can cause the vibration under braking and at certain speeds but also the clonk on and off the acceleration, the most common one on the Corrado is the rear wishbone bushes as Kev rightly said. Big potential there....

Clicking / ticking noise coming from the front wheels any ideas?
24V Renshaw replied to Patrick101's topic in Drivetrain
Agree with Kev. Get it jacked up and have a listen. People try and diagnose so many noises and spend a fortune on CV joints, bearings, all sorts. Many years ago I had a vibration on my car and make the mistake of spending money until my old man said jack it up and have a look while it runs. Turned out to be a slight bulge in the tyre which I would never have found otherwise. Jay -
I'm not bitter, it's just my cars a complete lemon...

I think its the Corrado "brand" weeding out the real enthusiast owners from the giver upers. Stick with it and you will end up with something special while all the others fall by the wayside :) Jay -

More new bits.... Got myself some basically brand new MK4 front calipers, which combined with some brand new 312mm carriers, discs and pads I have will mean I have a complete new front brake setup to fit. The calipers are stripped and blasted and come will all new genuine parts, so should be perfect... Need to find some VR6 front hub carriers now to strip and rebuild to go with the brakes :) Jay For the picture whores... -
Got some now thanks :)

Update: The focus for the next few evenings is to provide the C with a comfy warm and dry home for both being worked on in the winter months, but also for overnight parking. Having started with a basic concrete prefab garage, I had already painted the floor and panelled out the Walls with loads of battens and free 15mm chipboard for which I have a unlimited supply. But it is not enough, so this weekend I picked up a load more wood and 12 rolls of "space blanket" insulation. I have started feeding the space blanket in behind the wooden wall panelling and am just over half way so far. Hoping to finish this by the weekend and finish off painting all the panels White to brighten everything up. Also started to batten out the ceiling, so I can board out up there too. On the car front I have replacement front indicators and aerial (cheers Andy) and a replacement front slam Panel in dark burgundy pearl (cheers Paul) and can't wait to get the car in the garage to start work next week. I have given myself the deadline of the rolling road day at the end of November to have the car road worthy and sorted... Jay -
Lower Ball Joint Extension / Re-positioning
24V Renshaw replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Drivetrain
If you think about it, lowering the car by 40mm lowers the inboard pivot point of the wishbone by 40mm, so to get the wishbone back to stock position you need to extender/lower the outer pivot point (i.e the lower ball joint) by the same amount, 40mm. You are bang on about how the VR ball joint works, now try and come up with a simple extension... :) -
Lower Ball Joint Extension / Re-positioning

You need to see a VR6 hub and and lower ball joint to see the challenge... I have not done the maths yet of the actual length needed, but its a simple bit of trig based on the original position and ride height dropped....might do it over lunch :) Jay ---------- Post added at 01:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:10 PM ---------- Actually thinking about it, whatever the car is lowered by, the extension to the lower ball joint needs to be the same... -
Lower Ball Joint Extension / Re-positioning

I am trying to keep the roll centre as good or better than standard. Of course if it can be better then great, but I think enough of a challenge it to get the same roll centre but with a lower CofG. Products like this would be ideal if someone made a Corrado VR6 version [/img]http://image.nengun.com/catalogue/original/nengun-0000-00-sunlineracing-roll_centre_adjuster.png -
Lower Ball Joint Extension / Re-positioning
24V Renshaw replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Drivetrain
Yeah, I can't find anything useful. Its such a fundemental issue with the Corrado. The ride height is simply too high, which puts the C of G up and if you could lower the car, but retain the roll centre, then it would only be as good if not better than standard handling. Dropping the car to a visually appealing height just ruins the handling and you have to start sticking massive anti roll bars on to counteract it, which then ruins the ride and handling LOL. I have designed my own extender, but I don't have the time or inclination at the moment to get it made, test it, develop it etc.. SCCH in the states do some nice stuff, but they are not straight forward fit. Jay ---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:53 PM ---------- Surely VR6 Vento cup cars etc.. must have something or is it all fabricated? -
Since driving the Standard VR6 at standard ride height and enjoying the handling so much, as VW intended and everyone still raves about, I have decided on the new Corrado Project that I will lower the car, but want to then straighten all the wishbones and track rods back to their original angles to maintain the roll centre. As I am well aware this is not as straight-forward to do as on a MK2 Golf or 16v Corrado as the ball joint bolts through the hub, rather than being a pinch type. I know you can buy extended Hub carriers for the MK4 Golf platform cars which give the right results but has anyone seen anything "off the shelf" for a VR6 Corrado that will allow the extension of the lower balljoint. Obviously it would be possible with welding etc.. but I would like something that bolts on to factory parts and is proven on either track or road. I am happy about how to do the track rod ends (flip over) but the lower ball joint is a problem) What have people seen? Jay
