Will I sell my Rado?? 24v V6 - PVW Cover Car Jan 06

Don't worry mate not you, it was a few comments posted up that were a bit low. I guess I should just ignore it all, but I want people to understand and get a bit defensive :( Jay -

It's a whole lot more than that unfortunately. If you look at say, a Lamborhini Gallardo, it costs something like £110K IIRC? If you break it down to it's component parts (a lot of it Audi stuff) then it's probably about 50 grand's worth in raw materials. What you're actually paying for is the 'creation' and knowledge you won't see dozens of them in every line of traffic you drive past. Same with Jay's and anyone else that's done a major build, A20 Lee, BiggerBigBen, PhatVR6, Coxy etc etc....it's all the bespoke hard work that isn't immediately obvious that costs, and what cost can you put on a intense manual labour and ingenuity? Lambo think that is worth £60K, and maybe Jay's is worth £8-9K in 'parts' but £20K (?) as a 'creation', if that makes sense? It does to me anyway, LOL! Unfortunatley 98% of buyers will focus on the parts value, not the bespoke one off value. Finding the 2% that appreciate it and will pay for it is very hard. WOOOOHOOOOO I knew there would be someone :) Oh, but I would never expect anything like £20K or even £15k for my car. Jay -

Thanks for all your comments, I am obviously in the wrong place. Andy - I have no idea mate. Depends on what/if it sells for. Maybe a Lambo or a Mclaren F1 :) Jay -

I would never expect to get back what I have paid/put into it, that would be a huge amount. I am looking at it relative to other cars out there and so will people in the market for this sort of thing. I am also not expecting anyone outside of the VW scene to buy it. I also think people are not bothered by "its Jays car" they just don't have the time/inclination to build something like this and would rather buy one for a hell of a lot less than it would cost them to pay for it to be built. As someone said earlier stick a different set of rims and a personal plate on and if it pulled up at a show people would not know it was mine. Jay -

Someone who actually understands the car a bit. Its basically brand new. "Everything" was replaced with new bits, right down to the rad fan. It is literally like driving a new car. I think I need to take some more people out in it! Jay -

To be honest with all of you its never ever going for £8K. Ever. When there are bog standard VR's going for over £8K and people selling modified MK2's for £16K. Jay -

LOL. OK. Sorry Andy, but that doesn't cover anywhere even close to what has been done. Its a nice idea, but if thats what you think it is I will not bother to explain. Jay -

Its purely a financial thing. I could keep it and do nothing to it other than maintain it, but I have an inbuilt need to "build" stuff and to fund a new project I "need" to sell it. I will not sell it for silly money, its simply not worth it as you say. Jay -

To be honest I don't think the car can be compared to a Standard VR Corrado in any way at all. The vast majority of people will not understand what this car is. Those that have been in the car will understand more, those that drive it and live with it will understand completely. Not sure what I will do next, but I know I will still be involved with dubs :) Jay -

Hello all, After a great day at GTi Festival yesterday and after some interest in the Rado I am seriously considering selling the car to start a new project. I am not going to sell it if I don't get a worthwhile amount for it as I love the car, but I am getting the itch for something new. The car is used as a genuine daily driver and could be by anyone, or could be owned and used as a show/track/weekend car. Its not a car that has to be owned by a specialist and could happily be taken to a VW garage, just like a MK4 Golf to be serviced/scanned etc.. Everything on the car works as it would in the MK4/TT from the climate control to the ABS. It drives like a new car and basically is I have spent the last 4 years of my life on this car and believe its finally complete. However with a different set of wheels it would be a totally different car so there is always scope for change. So would anyone out there buy it and how much does someone want to give me for it? Cheers Jay

Cheers, I drive it hard every day, not just at the pod. :) Jay

We will see tomorrow :) Not expecting particularly quick times as its got a lot of leather and sound deadening in it, but we shall see. Jay

Don't think he was expecting me to still be there ;) Jay

Modfiy the mount and it will not foul on the 24v housing. Jay

Well I had an interesting little tussle yesterday. Saw an S2000 with a silly private reg on it waiting to pull out of a petrol station as I went past. He pulled out quickly behind me and pulled up alongside me at the next set of lights. I was not really in the mood for a race as it was a 30 limit so I pulled away from the lights gently as did he. Then we came to a roundabout and it opened out into a national speed limit dual carriageway. Well it would be rude not to :) So I went in a bit hot, he followed. We came out of the roundabout side by side and went for it. I was quite chuffed to see that he got absolutely nothing on me, maybe a couple of feet but that was it up to silly speed. Spec of the S2000 Honda S2000 (1999) 237bhp@ 8,300rpm 153lbs/ft@ 7,500 1260kgs 0-60mph 5.6 secs 0-100mph 14.3secs 30-70mph 5.2 1/4 mile 14.3secs@ 100mph 0-1000m 26.0secs@ 118mph Top speed 147mph So I will be interested to see what my Rado does at Santa Pod this weekend, as obviously we were already rolling. Not a big job, but depends how far off they are, might need a bit of dremel work to get them sitting right. Jay. -

After a crazy few weeks of holidays and shows I am completely skint again. So I am free to take on some weekend/evening work again if anyone needs anything doing? I will do basically anything other than bodywork and I am based near Manchester but am willing to travel if petrol is covered. Anyone need anything doing let me know. Cheers Jay

Erm, don't want to be picky but they have not taken any of the seals or trim off??? Hope you are not expecting it to last too many years before the lacquer starts peeling.... On a nicer note, are you getting any mods done? Jay
-
Fit in as much as possible and then you get all the nice toys and full functionality of the MK4. Jay

Hello mate, Just got back from Italy today and saw your progress good to see another being done :) Don't worry about the space behind the flywheel it will do no harm. I modified the front mount by reshaping the bracket and rewelding it, so it sat flush against the block, otherwise it clashes with the oil cooler. As for the torque settings I don't know of the top of my head, but basically tight! Jay
