If anyone is looking for a cheap catch can:
-
I was talking about an r32 not a 12v vr6 and quoting from the vf-engineering website. The z-kit for the r32 makes "310ps" without intercooling. Allegedly. :)
-
vf-engineering kit produces 350 hp on 7.5psi with intercooler.
-
Before you pull the clocks out give the dashboard a sharp blow with your fist to see if it's a bad connection.
-
I suppose if it was split it would amount to a vacuum leak as the hose is plumbed into the neck of the inlet manifold which would explain the poor running.
-
How much did you get for the charger?
-
I'm in Stoke so I can cover n. staffs, s. cheshire, and parts of shropshire and derbyshire. Mine is a 16 pin connector.
-
i've got vag-com and am willing to help anyone in my area.
-
Not much below 3000, feels like a lighty modified engine, but comes in strong afterwards and pulls hards up to the redline. Perhaps a vsr is needed so you get the best of both worlds.
-
Yes, its running great again.
-
There's not really much difference in performance between a standard vr and a charged vr at low revs. The charger doesn't flow that much air at low revs and you still have to wait for boost to build up like a turbo.
-
My car used to feel a bit flat at the top end and now it really loves the high revs and the power continues to 6200 instead of just giving up like it used to. When standard it was probably producing between 190 and 200 hp but made 274hp on the rolling road with the charger fitted.
-
mine cost £2000 new from nsr (z-engineering) and is still available but I think the vortech is the one to go for.
-
Don't like people who do that. Should have given you first refusal unless the guy who bought it was before you and you were hoping he didn't buy. :x I'm sure you'll get one soon enough, but you may have to travel.

spray a mist of water over the coilpack at night whilst the engine is running and if there are cracks in the plastic insulation you should see blue flashes. If the coilpack is arcing you can repair the plastic with epoxy glue. If you do a search there are threads on how to repair the coilpack.
-
could be the maf. Mine has the same symptoms and vag-com reported a dead maf. Check the coilpack for arcing.
-
£213 must have been the price of a new unit although this unit is brand new so I don't know why there's a difference in price.
-
How much would someone like Stealth charge for a 3.94 final drive and they rebuild the gearbox at the same time?
-
Corvr6 - I haven't actually fitted the maf yet but will do it at the weekend and will report back if it's still misfiring. dan r 901- I got the maf from Bowers (a Bosch dealer in Stoke-on Trent). They intially quoted me £213 then but when the maf arrived they wanted £150+vat (£175) in exchange for my old maf.
-
I had the same fault code with the engine running and got 30-10 open or short to b+ intermittent with the ignition on and an 02 sensor fault code which went away (must have been running rich because of the dead maf). Have just got a new exchange maf from a Bosch dealer for £150. (Costs £330+ vat from the stealers).
-
Can't you just convert the golf to cable change? It's quite easy and only requires a few mods.
-
Made a few enquiries on maf prices: VW dealer: £333.11 + vat (new) Eurocarparts: £199.8 (£60 surcharge on old maf) (re-manufactured) Bosch agent in Manchester: £251+vat (new) £175+vat (re-manufactured) GSFcarparts: couldn't get one Local Bosch Agent: £213.44 + vat (new) There aren't any in the country so it's at least a week waiting.

You can get a plate direct from mocal (thinkautomotive) or somewhere like demon tweeks which sells them separately. Both types are available (with or without a thermostat). I've got the plate with a 90 degree thermostat but I think the standard thermostatic plate operates at 70-80.
-
I have finally got my car plugged into vag-com and have found: 00553 Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) 29-10 short to ground Is this a total failure of the maf or are there other things to check such as wiring/connections? The strange thing is that the ecu hasn't switched to the TPS/limp mode. The coilpack must be the best bit on the car since this is the second maf which has gone bad along with all the usual suspects; isv, lambda, cps etc. whilst the coilpack is original. Oh well, who sells the cheapest maf?

This item has been sold for £255 + 30 p&p. It was a factory block with pistons/ rings minus the oil pump, con rods, and crank. I was tempted but it was probably too much and an overbored 2.8 would be the cheaper option. What do you guys think, was it worth that kind of money?
