  1. Ahh didn't realise the seats got split up. I would defo have the fronts if the guy didn't come to pick them up.
  2. Glad it worked out in the end. Didn't you want to change the discs at the same time? I've just done this mk4 change and we did the discs as well. They only cost £14 each!!! With new bearings as well, means you don't have to worry for a long time. Volksworld13 on here makes the brake lines, give him a shout and I'm sure he will sort some out for you.

Do you know if one from a late 2.0 16v fits? If so, we have just removed one from the car. Its still attached to the rad. Let me know if its good for you. I'll sort you a pic or two.
  4. Hey Rob, As we've been talking about this lately, really hope it doesn't happen. Know how it is though, I've had the very same thoughts over the course of the last year. Things do change quickly so don't be hasty mate. As for the above post stating £2.5k, I know its difficult to give guide values over the internet without the ability to see the car......BUT that is so far off the mark with this car. The bodywork alone is immaculate. Would prob cost more than £2.5k to get a respray anywhere the standard of this job. Not a mark on it at all. Lots of engine work, great leather interior as well. The Comps are awesome as well. Bloody hell mate, you can't sell!
  5. Feel for you there mate. Fingers crossed you can get sorted quickly.

    brake paint

Haha, don't worry. The state of them at the moment with all the dust and road crud on them, there won't be any showing off for a while!

Silver Hammerite Smooth for me to match the front Brembo's. Not that I've used it yet!
  8. You fancy taking one out of a car? If so, we can help you out mate. Give us a shout if its poss for you to pop down our way. Not too far for ya.
  9. The mk4 rear calipers have now been fitted. A few little hiccups along the way but for actual fitment, it all went like clockwork :smug:. Stripdown showed everything to be in surprisingly good condition, I expected the disc guard to be rusting away as I think it could be original or at least not changed for a long time. The old shagged out disc with lots of grinding from an equally knackered pad :bonk: Had a bit of fun removing the caliper bolts but luckily they shifted in the end. Glad I bought new ones. Then found a couple of the carrier bolts had seized in the sleeve due to water ingress, what a job they were to free. Built the new discs up with the bearings and re-assembled no troubles. The Goodridge hoses were spot on and fitted great. All back together- Had a few troubles with bleeding, air in the system. My mechanic mate came over today and brought his proper bleeding kit. Wow, what an amount of air that came out of there! Much better now but its still a bit spongy. I think things will settle down after a couple hundred miles. But as a conversion, this was pretty straight forward and will prove to be a good move.
  10. Cheers for your help mate, sounds like good advice there. I took the plunge and agreed to buy it, £775. So I thought that was worth the risk as its only going to be needed until some money comes in to buy a nice shiny T5:dance: The Passat has had a full service a month ago, all wheel bearings this weekend and 12 months mot. Good condition interior, all electrics work etc. Looking forward to getting some good use out of it:cool:
  11. Cheers guys, Most of the brakes parts are fitted now, I'll update about the mk4 calipers going on. Cazza, the abs rings were £11+vat.
  12. Well I went a little mad down at the local TPS and a couple of internet sites collecting parts for fitment and for crucial stock (thats what my brother calls hoarding of parts!). Firstly I needed to get everything needed for the mk4 rear brake changeover. Rear Discs 357615601B Bearings 191598625 ABS rings 1J0614149 mk4 pads 1J0698451P Carrier bolts N0199123 Cover 1H0501639 Now just a few parts for a rainy day. Don't buy them off ebay, cheapest were £68. Amazon is the place to find them- £28 delivered and they arrived on the tues after I ordered sunday. Very happy with them.
  13. I can't fault TPS, very pleased with their prices. And you get piece of mind that you're buying genuine parts.
  14. I know what you're saying, I paid £18 for the expansion pack. Is it worth buying both sets? Can't see there's much difference in them?
  15. How about these, very good price! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BNIP-IRWIN-bolt-grip-5-Piece-Base-Set-394001-/120702489480?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c1a6dd388
  16. Thanks for that help. Its weird, I can hear the brake fluid whoosh around the abs pump area, its audible. Didn't hear it before the change over.
  17. Sounds like you need the Irwin Bolt Removers. I did this job yesterday, the bolts very nearly rounded over but came out ok in the end. I bought the Irwins just incase. New carrier bolts are very cheap from TPS if you haven't already got some. Don't forget the bearing kits. Have you bought new discs then? Again cheap from TPS, mine were £14 each for gen ones. New ABS rings are about £11-12. Hope it goes well mate.
  18. I fitted the mk4 calipers yesterday with Goodridge braided hoses, original carriers, new carrier bolts, mk4 pads and new VR discs. Everything fitted a treat but we need to bleed the whole brake system as its got a very spongy pedal at the moment. Hope a system bleed will sort that out. Any thoughts on something else that could cause this spongy feel?
  19. Hey guys, As my T4 has died, I've been offered a Passat estate for getting to and from work and carrying tools etc. Its cheap but its got 201k miles. Been told the cambelt has been done 6 months ago and the bearings are being done this week. It will come with 12 months MOT, so its all sounding like a good deal but just wanted to get a few thoughts on whether the mileage is an issue or not? Cheers for any help offered. Stories of your ownership or useage would be a big help to me.
  20. Hi mate, I'm sure we'll have this part for you as well as the dash speaker I looked into for you from your other thread. Rob is just checking the speaker and once confirmed it works fine, we can get it and the boot light out to you mate.
  21. Since my T4 with rear seats died, I've been using the C for family duties. A 3 year old and a 5 week old baby fit fine with no issues. Even managed to fit a full size pram in the boot after a bit of taking it apart and last weekend we all went to Essex for the weekend. It was brilliant and loved the use. Now done 1500 miles in the last 3 weeks. I see no reason to make these cars even rarer. Sell as is for someone else to enjoy or keep it, thats the options really. Breaking one can take months of grafting to make it worthwhile, not something to go into lightly. Hope you make the right choice for your circumstances mate.
  22. Hi guys, Wanted to let you know about my van I'm selling if you or anyone you know is in a position to do something to save it. Cheers. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-VW-Transporter-T4-2-5TDI-Ex-AA-Dead-Engine-/220757757221?pt=UK_Commercial_Trucks&hash=item3366300d25
  23. Thinking of the boot plinth, you say about it being refitted but what about the CF being shaped the same as a plinth would look on the boot? Reduces another add on, onto the CF. Think it could look OE but subtlely different and smoother. Just a thought.
  24. Yep have one but just need to double check it for working fine. No idea on pricing, say £10 posted?
  25. I can sort you out for- Headlights Front Window seal. If we're both thinking of the same bit. Gutter Trims. Not mint but very useable. Give me a shout to discuss further mate and hope to be able to get what you need.
