  1. Just live your life a quarter mile at a time guys :shades: The last couple of plays I've had were both diesels:camp: But seriously they were hard work for my little standard motor!!! A Scirocco TDi from a standing start onto a dual carriageway took until about 80 to overtake and an Audi A4 2.0 TDi having fun along dual carriageways and off roundabouts. Had him no worries from a roundabout but he shot away at high speed on the straights (didn't want to go that fast!). Stay safe playing folks :lcop::splat:

    Ant's VR6

Best of luck today mate, watching the thread with interest.
  3. Good timing, I'm in need of new discs. Looks like a good price. How do these compare to others available guys?
  4. Hi mate, The mk4 setup takes literally minutes of work to get right. I've fitted it and even for me it was easy. The locating lug plastic underneath gets cut to become a slot rather than round and the screw holes are slightly moved. My pipework had enough slack in it to reach with no modifying. The connector plug just needs to be removed and the pins be inserted into the mk4 plug. Go for it mate.
  5. Hi guys, My current rear brakes are shot and one caliper is sticking and being a real pain to me and needs to be changed asap. I'm in need of a pair of new rear discs folks if anyone has a pair they didn't get round to fitting. I have a pair of mk4 calipers ready to go, so I'm needing some new good quality pads to fit and a pair of hoses to suit please guys. If they aren't available from here, could you knowledgeable people let me know where I could buy everything for the best price please. Mucho thanks in advance. Also just wondering what people think of this lot from the bay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REAR-BRAKE-KIT-VW-GTi-VR6-MK3-GOLF-CORRADO-PASSAT-/350447767888?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5198509150
  6. Can't be a Storm on an L reg. Think he got a bit confused fitting the handbrake plastic :bonk:.
  7. Got to say I'm so pleased with the reliability of mine. It had done only about 50 miles whilst not in regular use over the bad winter weather. This was about an 8-10 week period. Now its been called into action, I've done 1,200 miles in two weeks and 550 miles this weekend alone. Oil and water temps have stayed rock solid and its been a pleasure doing the miles. As above, get the best car you can and maintain, maintain and do a bit more maintain as you keep it.
  8. Nice, thanks for that Emu, I'll give them a go soon.
  9. How do you get those prices if the company is a bit funny over mods?
  10. Mine's up for renewel towards the end of the month, been quoted about £60 more than last year (£460). Hope there's a bit of improvement from shopping around but I'm preparing to have to pay that amount. I'm amazed how some of you younger guys can pay the horrific premiums being charged, its just a joke what the companies ask for!
  11. Wondering what the weight saving would be? Could there be a choice with having or not having the rear wiper?
  12. I'd have to say I'm interested. I can't see a group buy for them coming around too often. Would like to see and read more details about them but the idea sounds spot on. Hope the buy wouldn't be for a while as its not viable at the moment.
  13. I thought you didn't need to use the mk4 carriers? You just fit the calipers and thats the end of it, could be very wrong though. Interested in this thread as I've just bought a pair of mk4 calipers. When buying secondhand calipers, would people recommend refurbing them? The rubbers and seals etc.
  14. Yep, it does its job perfectly. You know what black sleeve I'm talking about? The one that runs along the top of the rad at the back of the slam panel. Once you undo the small bolt at the end of the wire, you can pull it back out of the sleeve from right to left as you look at the front of the car. I pulled the bonnet cable out of the couple of clips that go along the inside of the wing to help with pulling the wire out of the sleeve. This way, you don't bend the wire to much. Its quite robust, so don't be afraid of it mate. You don't need to do anything at the handle end.

What Audi was it then mate?
  16. Hey Gaz, Very nicely timed indeed, I didn't close the bonnet once I saw it was like it! Get on and change it, easy mate. All I did was to undo the 7 or 8mm bolt that holds the end of the wire. Slide the wire back all the way to where you need to access the new trumpet. All the sleeves stayed in place over the rad. And just replace in reverse order. There's nothing to be worried about. Pull the end of the wire with some pliers to put a bit of tension on it or as I did cus of having no pliers- manually pull the mech in a little and do the nut up. when you release the mech, it takes up the tension and you're done. Hope you can follow my garbled explanation! Fits a treat also mate, so come on people, you could need one of these one day!
  17. Hey Abdul, I have late spec grey cloth doorcards. Obviously I'm miles away from you but I've sent front doorcards before by courior and it was only £8. These any good to ya mate-
  18. At last, had a productive weekend doing jobs on the car. Don't normally get chance to do anything to it for the last few months. Better weather and needing to do things made sure this was a good time to get started. Firstly, found a dead battery. Been suspect for a while and the cold weather must have killed it off. Had to be a brand new Bosch one with good amps. 64ah I think. Pricey but looks the business. Thanks goes out to Nath (C488ADO) for helping me with changing the front and gearbox mounts. The old ones didn't look to be in bad condition. I've been collecting parts for ages and thought it would be best to just carry on and fit them. The front one is a brand new VW one, good old OE! The gearbox one is a Vibratechnics solid job. I know some people want to use the mk2 Golf diesel one but I thought this would help with good gearchanges and it gives the engine a good solid feel. This is the case, you can feel a slight vibration come through but not overpowering but the change is now very clear and positive. Very pleased with the improvement. Had an easy time changing the front Brembo pads. There's only a bar to slide out of the way and a spring clip to remove. After that, just lift the pads out, I'm lucky having these calipers. My brother explained how much more difficult other calipers can be to change to pads. Put a set of Brembo pads on, so much better than what I've had on there. Didn't have as much luck with reconnecting the reverse lights. They haven't been connected since the car went from Auto to Manual. Found out which wires are the right ones, bought a correct plug a while ago. Soldered them together but nothing. No lights and not too much of an idea of where to go with it now. Calling Nath!!! Found and solved an air leak after the air flow meter, think its on the return pipe. I had been suffering from stalling a bit recently and this has taken care of that problem pretty much completely. I'm a happy chap with taking care of the old girl again

    Bonnet

Would you be able to use a courior you could trust? We could wrap and box it up ready to be collected by a courior of your choice?
  20. Hi Gaz, A quick update for you and for everyone to check their bonnet cables. I had a look at my cable on the car for the first time today and was a bit surprised to find the little trumpet piece was broken about half way around the top edge of it. Was not going to last very much longer and the handle had already started to take more effort to open the bonnet. So a big thankyou for making these, I didn't even think I would need one but you've saved the day mate!!!

    Black headlining

I have a very good headlining ready to ship, if anyone wants to try making a black headlining. Call it £15 plus postage. Would have to find out a courior price. My mate sent a lining recently, so shouldn't be a problem guys.
  22. Hi Tony, Pretty sure I will have these for you. The centre console does have very minor hole damage if you can't find a mint one. Black later style interior door handle surround, driver's side Passenger door interior triangular trim panel (black) - (kind of like an interior mirror cover trim panel) Dash centre console cover - no broken clips or screwholes!
  23. Ideal, mid week is good with me. I finish work approx 4- 4-30 each day just up from the centre of Exeter. I'll pm my number so we can arrange to meet. Thanks mate.
  24. Hi mate, can meet you in Exeter if you want with late clocks for £35. Plus its a good excuse to say hello and see the new motor!
