with a snap off you do still need the boss to attatch to, there are some shorter bosses to use with the snap off as using it with the normal boss will bring the wheel towards you about 2 inches, not really a hassle just means that the indicator stalks etc, are a bit of a reach from the wheel

OK, we know your cars, where did your names come from???

i hate the gritters but would prefer to wash my car regularly (notthat i do )rather than slide off the road on ice!

millenium 320mm for me, had it 2 years and still feels lovely

wheel 1 up from bottom, seat all the way forward and tilted all the way back, i`m 5`10 and 15 stone slightly OT: i`ve got a snap-off and its alwys fun removing it and asking the passenger to "hold this for a minute, will you??" (obviously going in a straight line and going pretty slowly)
-
could someone do a chop to raise it 10-40???? mm so we/he can see what it`ll look like?

i reckon thats about a grands worth of damage then all in with paint etc, be careful about it as the insurance company will write a car off as easily as they want to and you`ll have ____ all to say about it! (although you should be ok) its worth asking the garage if they`ll let you supply the parts (ebay or here) and then get them to fit and paint `em..... be warned though some places wont let you source the parts they HAVE to come direct from the manufacturer...... dunno how this works if parts are discontinued though! justification for classic status now i reckon!

yeah mate, much prefer them BBS look-e-likeys much more than the TSW
-
i think the 2.0 L 16v has a metal gasket whereas the 1.8 has a cork gasket, dunno if you need it tho!.......... again i will be corrected WHEN/IF i`m wrong

i think coilovers differ from struts and springs where parts need replacing, so probably irrelevant, but when i changed my susp. to Koni + H&R`s i got new: 2x 357412303E rubberstop £15 2x 191512131B stop £20 2x 191513425 tube £5 2x 357413175 bellows £13 2x 357412329 mounting £50 (prices are approx.) but IIRC Mk4 bumpstops dont need cutting down and would look at axle, arb bushes etc....(which i`m looking at next) might work out quite expensive but.....peace of mind if your gonna keep the car ps . oh and a full tracking, camber, castor check is advised

theres a few dudes(ettes) on here who have done the 20v conversion 20vturbo biggerbigben 20veetee have a search and pm them to see what they say? but i think that is from a G60 to 20v, i think changing a 16v involves changing basically everything, ie fuel tank, engine mounting points etc.... HTH (but i could be way oof the mark)

a few people on here have done this and i think it is quite an extensive job, do a search on the topic and i`m sure it will show up some good results!

if your on about the door pin (which ithink you are) it just unscrews. try it on the passenger side!! if its snapped off too low down you may have to take your door card off!

henny`s bang on the price, thats what i paid for mine done a year ago! but if you can have the car off the road for a while which i imagine it is already then have a go at doing it yourself??!! me and a mate changed the head on his golf G60 2 weeks ago, only armed with some tools of ours, a couple of specialist bits (for head bolts), a copy of Haynes and a guide that (i think) Henny wrote up on dubforce.net. neither of us had done anything like this before, managed to do a change in 6hours including lunch break, got it checked at our mechanic, and the only things we did wrong were a tooth out on the cam belt and a vaccum pipe put back in the wrong place. which he sorted for minimal price! have a go!!
-
sorry to hear that mate!! hope your ok though? a new bumper will set you back about £500 inc vat etc.... still it should all be claimed for by her insurance! ALWAYS go and see a doctor even if you dont think your injured (been on a first aid course today) knocks to the head can develop over a couple of days! (dont mean to worry you) agree with bcstudent though get 2 or 3 quotes for the damage and only allow someone your happy to carry out the work do it! hope it all get sorted with minimal off hassle
