Corrado Spotting! Was it you? [Archive December 05]
h100vw replied to PBSTORM's topic in General Car Chat
I'd say so Ian. -
Looks like a META siren to me. See if you can get the numbers off it and do a google. Gavin

http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight= Here's some more info, worth reading thru all of it as it won't take long. Gavin

You need to get yourself onto mobile.de and nip over to Germany with a load of Euros. You can buy something there and get a months insurance with your 'export' plates. Stick it in lock up till you go home. Gavin

Chris, the mixture can be adjusted though, cloudy memory from reading too many books on the subject. The potentiometer is adjustable, some voltage can be altered IIRC?? Could the pot be just a bit out of limits and not need replacement.. Gavin

Personally I don't think the Airflow meter is your man. Before you spend any money, please check the basics. I doesn't take long. You need to confirm that the crank and cams are timed correctly. Set the engine to TDC on number 1, use the crank pulley for reference but don't but believe it on it's own. Take out the plug from number 1 too and stick a long bladed screwdriver down the plughole. As you approach TDC by the crank marks make sure the screwdriver tops out at the same time. As you turn the engine past TDC the screwdriver should start dropping immediately. As another reference you can use the timing mark on the flywheel instead of the crank pulley. The cam timing can be checked by removing the top belt cover. The reason for all the above is the common occurance of bottom pulley bolt failure. When the bolts snaps/come loose the bottom pulley moves and the timing between the crank and cams changes and no amount of resetting the ign timing will recover the performance. It may reduce the pinking. #1 I have had this myself on my syncro passat, everything appears to line up by the marks but the crank pulley can be miles out. Also, as I was setting the engine to TDC, I went past the mark, on backing the engine up, the bolt came undone. The pulley had no woodruff key left in it. #2 A friend had a 2 litre 16V mk2 Golf. The engine had been built out of an 1800 and the pulley bolt had been reused. It came loose and the pulley was rocking back and forth with each start and switch off cycle. You could tell it wanted to fly but anything over a whiff off throttle had it pinking it's head off. Fortunately, the oil seal started leaking at that end of the crank, which was when we discovered the loose bolt and damaged pulley. #3 A fella on the forum had the same problem recently, crap performance and pinking from his newly purchased project 16v. Same thing again, loose bolt, knackered pulley, leading to incorrect timing. Check that lot and let us know what turns up. gavin

The bit under the bonnet with all the pipes on it. What was the faukt code from VAG COM? Who checked it for you, RW1? Did he not suggest anything? Gavin
-
Heat gun would be adequate.
-
You could struggle to do that. The heater box would go back in and not fall about, without it. If you were to try and knock it back and forth you would damage the bulkhead. Can you get some heat on it? Gavin
-
The back of that stud is moulded into the heaterbox, it sound like it's spinning in the mount.. I'd use a 10mm spanner and a pair of molegrips to undo it, if it were my problem. Gavin

Pete, get round to Andy Walkers and save some hassle and get to learn a bit at the same time.

Stan, you know it makes sense.........................

10-15 minutes, make sure the ign is off. Gavin

Thats why you should leave the jump starter connected for a while. Clifford alarms are notably intolerant to flat batteries and jump starting. Just be prepared for the alarm to go off, keep the keys in your hand as you connect up. Gavin
-
Connect it and leave it connected for a while before you try starting. It should be Ok. No substitute for a good trickle charge or regular use. Gavin
-
No performance increase whatsoever. It is however, a lot less likely to snap. Gavin
-
Dude, this is a wide belt conversion for the weedy drive belt in the charger not the tooth belt conversion that drives the charger. A replacement belt would be about a tenner here. So that kit assuming it doesn't go up much is pretty cheap. Gavin

Big ends only take an hour with the sump off. Little ends need the head off. Much more likely to be the big ends, a deep knocking that varies with engine speed. If they are just starting to go, they can be heard on a light throttle about 2000 revs. If they are well gone, like my 145K 1.8 passat, they knock from tickover to the redline.

squirt WD40 in all the locks and work the keys in and out. Maybe the tumblers have got stuck in the crappy weather??? Is it still cold down south? Gavin
-
16V turbo? It does look nice matey 8)

How far up north is she? I have a fan in my garage. Warrington

Anyone converted their 16v from k jet to digifant from a mk3
h100vw replied to rmn's topic in Engine Bay
The K-jet is mechanical for fuel delivery but the ignition is from an ECU. That can be mapped with Kstar and VSAM etc. Still not as good as a fully mapped set up though. Gavin -
Which engine? Rev counter feed is not from the alternator... Does it turn over on the key? Do you hear the fuel pump prime when the ign is turned on? Are you getting a spark? Will it start if you bump it down the road? Gavin

The bad bit is getting the old bushes out. Cut the centre out of the bush and hacksaw through the sleeve. It depends on your facilities and endurance!! You could take the axle right off the car and have someone press out the old ones. The poly ones can be knocked in with a mallet and some grease. Gavin
