  1. Bonnet switches fail most often in my experience. The alarm is probably trying to tell you which sensor is bad. Have a read through the idiots guide, it will tell you what the beeping means. Gavin
  2. Jack the engine up...... Don't tighten all the other bolts up until you have all of them started. Gavin
  3. Now your asking>>> 1342 is correct I think. If you set the engine to TDC on number 1 then the rotor arm should poit to a notch in the dissy body, with the cap and dust shield removed. Gavin
  4. I still cant get in and if i connect the battery up again it starts churping again. Will the fob not switch it off though? Do you have a spare transmitter? Disconnecting the power shouldn't cause the alarm to forget the transmitters programmed to it. Maybe it is sounding cos you have the bonnet and boot open?? Try taking the wire of the bonnet switch and disconnecting the wire from the drivers door switch, so you can leave the door open. Make sure it doesn't touch bare metal. Then shut the boot or flick the catch in the lock to cancel the boot light. Gavin
  5. Neil, it was a revelation after Clifford the big red dub. Something a miss for sure but exactly what I don't know. A run on the rollers with all the diagnostics connected would help. Only ever seen that done by Kershaws in York. You can monitor the timing mixture etc on a screen and see when any of them go out of limits. The enigine is basically in sound condition though. it sounds to be very 'tight' no big mileage rattles or squeaks at all. Gavin
  6. Something amiss there then, unless the leads are on incorrectly??? Gavin
  7. Normally the correct place would be in the middle of the adjustment. Please check that the physical timing of the engine is ok. Crank pulley springs to mind. Gavin
  8. It's been done before. Not much money from VW. Gavin
  9. Run the engine with the serpentine belt off until the oil drips out of the drain, Fit the drain and then the belt. Bob's your uncle. Gavin
  10. Not a bad job, will be an all day affair though, for your fist time. Gavin
  11. That brings up the 50-50-90 rule then Darren. In 50-50 decisions, you'll be wrong 90% of the time. Sorry to confuse matters Chris. Gavin
  12. I think they are low impedance. Gavin
  13. No ppint in doing the well lane thing neil. They don't do troubleshooting on those shoot outs. Gavin
  14. Andy likes a challenge. I'll see Riley on thursday I think and pass on his number. Gavin
  15. If the light is on there will be something up. Maybe if you jack up each corner of the car and spin the wheel while checking for an output in millivolts AC, that'll throw something up. My money is on a front sensor. Gavin
  16. A VW dealer will be able to tell you any dealer servicing it has had. They'll use the reg or chassis number if it has had any plate changes. Be prepared to be shocked though. I did this with my sub 80K mk3, only to find it had really got 150K up....... Gavin
  17. The ECU does make a difference. A cm or 2 is ok, A mate of mine had one that turned out to be 15cm short. It would pull ok on a small throttle but booting it made it bog down well badly. Gavin
  18. A big hammer job. Some Pug 307s were doing that and then spontaneously combusting. Get that starter sorted sharpish. Gavin
  19. Tim, Do you know the POs name? Gavin
  20. Try swapping the relays about. If the main beam realy is bad then the fault will transfer to the dip beam. If things stay the same then the fuse or something else is the problem. Where did you get the loom timg60, I don't recall sending one that far south? Is it one of mine? Gavin
  21. I wouldn't advise short drives every few weeks. You need to do a reasonable mileage to evapourate any moisture that condenses in the sump. Needs to be 20 miles or so IMO. Through winter it would probably be worth having a dehumidifier running in the shed. Gavin
  22. Might be something with your chip Neil. Maybe they took out the over-run fuel cut off? If not then your throllte closed switch would be my next guess. Gavin
  23. Those codes are VW I think. Only guessing but if it is saying no signal from the TPS and you have replaced the TPS then it has got to be the wiring in between. Not sure about the 00638. It could be a plug not connected or come adrift somewhere?? Maybe RW1 will be along and enlighten us. Might be worth PMing him. Gavin
  24. Michelin exaltos were excellent, rain or shine, track or road on my Golf. Lasted really well too. Costco is the place for them. Gavin
