  1. 83mm seems to be the normal oversize piston. Thats for 1900ish cc. To get more capacity usually involves a longer throw crank. Gavin
  2. I have got spare fans from Passats in the past. The best diagram is in the Bentley. Buy the book it's worth it's weight in gold. Gavin
  3. I'd slave in a new ign switch. Only cheap and easy to do. Gavin
  4. Erm, busy decorating. Although may have plenty of free time after July 1st when I may be made redundant/
  5. Sorry in a rush, that should be 'shouldn't' promote a leak. Apologies for the confusion. Gavin

    I hit a BIG bird

Its like hitting water, that's soft til you do it at 500 miles an hour then it suddenly becomes HARD. Gavin
  7. Chuffing local outlet stopped dealing with Autowatch. Now waiting for the local rep to ring me. (Auto)Watch this space...... Gavin
  8. It's standalone Kev, although you can crib all the connections of a cat 1. The 12v, ign 12v earths, door contact and fule pump cut. Just hide the little switch under the carpet or in the door pocket, where-ever. Obviously it's easier to fit at the same time as another system but defo DIYable. I have fitted a few to paranoid Manchester owners cars. They seem to really like them. I'll check on prices. Gavin
  9. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1 One of these little monkeys will help even if they do have the keys. Very cheap even if you have to pay retail. If know it's a bit 'stable door' anyone who wants one I'll see what I can do on group buy. Ideal if you get pulled out of the car at the lights. You can tell plod where to expect finding the car. Sorry for your loss. Gavin
  10. A good flange and an O ring should seal perfectly. Using sealer should promote a leak though. Gavin

    Headlight Mod

I have some 10W sidelight bulbs from a Boeing 747, I wonder if they would benefit from a relay... Heads for the garage........... Gavin
  12. Because Synta Gold is known to be too thin for older engines....just as Vauxhall's own engine oil used to p1ss out the sump and crank seals. My mk1 had a 2 litre bottom end in it. So when does a VW motor become new enough to take synthetic oil? It was newer in manufacture than a lot of the Corrados on this forum being from a 1992 car. Guy, in your humble or otherwise opinion, can we have a value for money scale on some of the oil that's out there? Best value for a tenner, fifteen, twenty quid or ...........some other scale you may come up with. Gavin
  13. I am interested to hear why my MK1 used boats loads of synta gold but the same engine with supermarket special stuff hardly used any?? No change in driving style? Without wanting to start a fight Kev, the fella at the top asked for advice so why shouldn't he get all that's available and in detail. As for pointless and boring debate, that's got to be passive steering rear axles for me. Gavin
  14. Cruise is just the stalk and a quick whizz with a 1551/vag-com to tell it what to do. Gavin
  15. Tha MK3 has an ABF engine which is all electronic, it does have 150 and can be chipped to 175ish. The Corrado is a 9A which is posh version of K-Jet, it can be messed with to give around 150-60. Gavin
  16. The 2 16Valvers produce the same power. The 2 litre has more torque. Gavin
  17. I think I was had yesteday on the M56. Plod with laser gun. With any luck they'll think I am a german with the plates I have. If not I might go to court to have my say. Truth be told, I am long overdue getting caught, 1992 was the last time. It used to be every couple of years before that. 85mph in a 1 litre metro was pretty impressive, when the book speed was 88 and I was 4 up. Anyway the rule is don't exceed the speedlimit on a clear motorway, in good weather on a saturday afternoon when plod got chucked out of the teabar by the shift boss, whilst watching re-runs of Murder she Wrote or Columbo  How do they sleep at night persecuting the public?? Horlicks maybe..... gavin
  18. The fan runs when you use the aircon because the aircon rad needs to have some air thru it to work. Your fan should be running under constant driving conditions. I feel that the temps you are seeing are normal. VW handbooks state that as long as the red light is off an indication anywhere on the gauge is normal. The Passat I just sold never went much over 70c/160F unless in traffic. My G60 Passat runs near 90C/200F. Should I get paranoid? I don't, the 2 cars are completely different. Don't spend money on a Jabbasport fan. You could get one in the stataes for less I am sure. There is something simple going on with your car I am sure. You need to start again if this has been going on for 9 months. Takle a fresh look. Fan works with aircon but not off the rad switch. WHY??? Is the wiring sound? Pull the plug and short it out to check the wiring. Bentley says how I think. Check the whole of the fan control system per the Bentley. Did you fill the cooling system thru the top hose, This makes sure the block gets filled up. I don't bother, I just fill it with the engine running and I don't get any probs. I can't see it being the head gasket, it would have died completely in 9 months for sure. Gavin
  19. Get one without cruise, APR agents can fit it on earlier cars so I don't see why they cannot do yours. It's about £50 for the stalk and an hours labour. I wouldn't be happy with a resprayed car with no miles on it. You paid for a new one and thats what you should be getting. You have to give them the opportunity to sort you out but it needs to be done quickly on their part. You have done the best thing leaving it there. Me, not knowing your circumstances, I would be after a full refund pending another 'perfect' car being supplied within a time specified by yourself. If they are an official SEAT dealer they will get one if they really want to. Gavin
  20. Things wear over time and go out of tolerance. A bad earth may be affecting the injectors, a duff temp sensor might do it. Having 4 BAR isn't the whole story, you still need to have volume of fuel. As for why go open loop. I'll let someone else dig themselves a hole on that one. Gavin
  21. Its true they were available on an F. Some early LHD imports and press cars. Gavin
  22. Sweet, another one saved from the scrappers
  23. You may have to discount my thoughts now as I don't know sweet FA about the running of a VR. VAG COM check would be my first action. Gavin
