ghost the number you have is correct. I was right too, same as the 16 and 8 valve motors Gavin

    tapets

Only a guess but AFAIK all hydraulic tappets for VWs are the same. Certainly until the 20V stuff came out. Gavin
  3. Oh yeah, I forgot about my MK1. Had a TA kit on there too. More hefty track action. You won't be disappointed Gavin

    Failed MOT

    Thanks for that...
  5. I'll stick my neck out here, have you heard anyone complain about weitec kits? I don't recall hearing anything, same can be said about Koni but they are just a big name player. The Weitec kits, as are most car related things in Germany, are TUV approved, which you could equate to British Standards. The stuff is well made and lasts well too. Gavin
  6. I don't think you can fault Weitec for the money at all. I had their TA kit on my Corrado and swapped it onto my Golf. It survived 4 years and many a trackday. I have the non-adjustable kit on my MK3 which is far superior to the Eibach spring/Bilstein shocks that I took off. Gavin

Can you do the number of thios place in Wolverhampton. A mate of mine needs a Passat rack which is 150 plus VAT from GSF.. Worst is I threw one away 2 weeks ago on a car I scrapped. Thanks, Gavin
  8. Woohoo, not as daft as I look.
  9. I could be wrong but I think you whizz a bolt in there to take the tension off the drive belt to remove it. Gavin

Depending on where you take it, they may need to remove the axle to replace the bushes. I have seen them done on the car but without a special tool you couldn't fit std bushes. Poly bushes are easy to fit with the axle on the car though. You just disconnect the flexy hoses and bleed the brakes afterwards. Awesome do it in about 2 hours or so I reckon. Gavin
  11. The ECU gets a signal from the Hall sender in the dissy, which it uses to get engine speed information. The clocks could use the coil control from the ECU to get its info. I think it is more likely to be the clocks not the ECU/dissy/hall sender at fault. The MFA is probably more accurate than the rev counter. It will be counting pulses, where the rev counter will be using the same pulses to drive it self round. If you can, I'd borrow a set of clocks to confirm which is at fault. The knock sensor plug just slides into the metal bracket I think. If not then there is probably a 10mm bolt you haven't noticed holding the bracket to the pipe. Make sure the knock sensor is torqued correctly, undo it and then do it up again. Use a torque wrench don't guess it. Gavin
  12. Knock sensor is held with a 13mm bolt done up to 15lbs/ft. This is CRITICAL, overtightening them makes them over sensitive. Gavin

    Knocking KR

Is that from VW. I got a sump and gasket plus the bolts and nuts from C and R for about 35-45 delivered. It was a while ago. Try ringing C and R or TSR. Gavin
  14. Saw 4X100 288s on eurospec site you posted in another thread about cylinder heads. Gavin
  15. There are 4 wires in the plug and 3 into the probe on a G60. Gavin
  16. My mate Dave and I have had some top adventures in our time......... The first one was with my Fix Or Repair Daily XR3, a 5 speed carb one. It was really not that bad a car and proved to be very reliable inspite of the lack of maintenance it received. This legeindary tale is about the gearbox. Due to too much ragging around town and the starship mileage it had probably covered. I was the 8th owner and it had 42000 'genuine' miles on it. The input bearing was well gone. Me and Dave pulled the box out on a friday morning and ran it to ford to have the 5th gear removed, so the box could be split. The bearing was a fiver from ford including a new seal. Parts prices are the only plus side to running a ford. Anyway, we manage to swap the bearing and seal in about 10 minutes. We then spent the rest of friday, saturday and most of sunday trying to reassemble the chuffing box. By sunday afternoon curiosity got the better of my Dad and he came into the barn and said ' What are you pair of ***ts up to? You have been in here for the best part of 3 fcuking days' I replies ' just changing this bearing and we can't get the box back together. We didn't want to trouble you'. My Dad and probably everyone elses Dad have the built in ability to make all exceedingly difficult tasks pi$$ easy. Has anyone else noticed that?? So he took about 30 seconds to stick the casings back together whilst calling us all sorts of names and then heads for the door. I called him back to refit the 5th gear, more abuse. Another 30 seconds with the acetylene and off he goes. It still took another 3 hours to fit the box and finish up. I vowed never to look inside another box as long as I live. That was 18 years ago now  Dave and I still mess with old cars now. Even though we could both afford not too. Another notable event was around 1995 when we bought a MK1 1600 GTI that had had a battery explode. We got replacements for the melted bits and then flattened several batteries not getting it to run. Had petorl and sparks etc. Next ingenius plan, we'll tow it back to work rather than driving all around Cornwall. We rent this trailer of a fella in Newquay and tow it with my MK2 GTI. We lined up the MK1 and as it ran down the hill I jumped in to steer it and hit the brakes. The tralire only had a single axle. Have you seen the preview in your heads yet?? The weight of the MK1 pushing down on the ramps lifts the back of my MK2 about 3 feet up in the air. :( I was bricking it incase the trailer came off the towbar and dropped thru me back window. A crowd had formed by this time to watch this pair of grockles scrapping 2 elderly volkswagens. We would have cleaned up on 'You've been framed' Eventually we got it loaded and back to camp. We tried all kinds of tricks to get it going. We towed it up the hill at work and shoved it down. I was 'piloting' and even at 30 in 2nd it wouldn't run, just the odd pop and bang. The end is near. The last attempt involved towing it round and round the carpark. Finally it started

    blitzchip??

The 9A enigne has different management to a 1.8 KR. It CAN be chipped. I saw these chips too, for the money I'd try one, assuming I had a 2 litre 16V. Gavin
  18. That valve is going to be part of the pump assy. Gavin
  19. Did you jump start the car or remove the battery to charge it? Either way I would disconnect it for a couple of minutes and then reconnect. Lots of alarms are not happy when the battery drains slowly. Gavin
  20. Did you unplug the headlights to take your readings? If you did then there will be no load on the system and you WILL get the full battery voltage. Only when the system is under load will the voltage drop. To get a true reading you need to monitor the voltage with the engine running and the lights connected and on. Check both the dip(yellow)and main beam(white). Gavin

Have a look at a MK2 Golf haynes manual. I have lent out my Bentley. You may want to get a new set of studs and nuts for the conrods. Gavin

    FK v KW

Sorry, I don't do coilovers. Too expensive and too much trouble for me. Having had AVOs. I would be happy fitting any Weitec gear though. Gavin

If you are able to soften teh rear ARB it will improve the situation. Most ARBs make a car twitchier at the limit, especially in the wet. My mk1 was very hard to drive quick in the wet. It would grip and grip and then see you spin. Std ARBs are much more progressive in nature. Gavin
