no spark 1.8 16v when starting/probs starti ... help plz
chubbybrown replied to bighairymuppet's topic in Engine Bay
Cant help you anymore,My prob was knackered ign amp,but wouldnt start at all ! This hall sender on distributor seems a likely candidate, also I replaced the coil as they aint that steep anyway. Dont buy a new ign amp, they are cheap as chips 2nd hand ,I paid £30 in a hurry for one and paid £8 for a new one,so bide your time if you dont need it. Is it ok once its started ? -

Try and find a gas night heater or a diesel one from a truck. roasting warm and uses hardly any fuel -
Has it been chipped ? and hows the pump timing ?

chubbybrown replied to Tempest's topic in General Car Chat
Thanks for the Link Tempest, are you thinking of Autoexpress? shame the poor sod got his jotters though... -
If you see any white smoke avoid. its either going to have pump probs or a dodgy engine, the white is excess fuel usually getting blown down the exhaust. I'd check the genuine filters too, some of them have the non return valves in the filter to stop the oil falling back down,so avoiding fuel starvation unsure if that applies to Vw's though,it did for peugeots.

A lot of this stuff doesnt apply in scotland yet. they do have the ANPR it even tells them if the vehicle in front of them isnt taxed,Brother in laws a bobby and he got bored doing traffic. You can still buy number plates over the counter with No I.d,usually to some poor soul in London dodging the inner london car tax. I know many cars that come from dealers that dont or are not held by screws usually in Number plate holders just like the ones at justmatz. Bottom line is Big brother is out there.

I wondered why the back windows dont go down, instead of just being stuck into position. Little penny pinching things that are usually fixed by group buys 8) chubbz

as I read through this all I could think of was a Puma. cheap to run and if you dont take the 1.7 the 1.4 or 1.6 looks the same but not the same bark and saves bundles on the insurance. Mgfs have that rubbish 1.8 engine with dodgy headgaskets yikes... ma woman hada golf gti mk1 then her corrado and shes still happy.

I thought cops would be too busy to think about this or too warm in thier cars chubbz

Which one is faster 1.8 16v Corrado or 2.0 16v Corrado ?
chubbybrown replied to VWci's topic in General Car Chat
Still doesn't give the 1.8 as much power as the 4-star it was originally designed for. All true, but the main reason for the 2.0 was cats had to be fitted by law from 91/92 onwards and the extra 2.0 was to recover power being sapped by the cat. same for diesels anything 97 onwards has to have a cat fitted. -

I think that is the point of this thread, a lot of people can't understand what the Storm is about. There isn't really anything to appreciate, its just a badge thing. If I were given a choice of a Classic Green Storm or an exactly the same Classic Green standard VR, what would I choose? Obviously the Storm because it will be worth much more to the next badge conscious person who's looking for one. It is in no way at all a better car. When I say a standard VR, what do I mean?... one without the badges!!! I wish VW had tweaked the Storm in some way, perhaps supercharged it or VSR'd it or something, then it would truly be worth more. Its just a con imo to make people who don't realise that Storms are no different pay more for the badge. Thats how I would have said it Andy :notworthy: chubbz Also I dont think there is as much of a premium as there used to be as they are getting older and less sought after, unless they are in Primo condition.
