It sounds like you've getting quite excited and haven't seen it yet. Please don't let your heart rule your head before you see it and do some more checks. I don't know this car but from what has been said it might be a cat C or D. There is nothing inherently wrong with it being such (if repaired correctly) but it does affect the cars value and if it is true then it would make me question the integrity of any seller that doesn't declare it. I strongly suggest you do a check this. Even if you can't do it in advance (there's no registration number on the pictures or the advert and the usual "Get The Vehicle Status Report" link isn't there either) then you can do it from your phone at the dealers: http://www.textcarcheck.co.uk/ I don't have anything against TCS per-se. But buying from them is not much safer than buying privately. I agree a dealer warranty is useful if you're buying a newer car but this car is around 15 or 16 years old. I doubt the warranty will be very comprehensive. Also let's look at the facts: 1) It might be a cat C/D as mentioned by others on this forum and no mention is made of that in the advert. If that does turn out to be the case then is the dealer deliberately hiding it? If he is then would you trust him on everything else about the car? 2) The dealer is asking £100 for a 3 month warranty. By law a dealer must warrant the car anyway. Trying to charge £100 for what you are legally entitled to is shady in my personal opinion. So do ask what the difference is between the £100 warranty and what they are legally obliged to offer for free. I think the car looks lovely. It seems a really nice rare colour although it is green rather than the grey you were looking for (grey is quite rare so I wouldn't suggest you specifically wait for one though). However the possible cat C/D and the dealers attitude over the warranty would put me off. If you do view the car, and someone checks it with you such as KDVR6, then by all means try to strike a deal on it. But please buy with your eyes open and don't buy it just because you have fallen in love with it at a distance. While Corrado's are rarer than other cars, another will certainly be along later.

Finally a steering wheel I'm happy with. It's an OEM one refurbished by emu. The slightly patchy shading is due to the flash on the phone but in real life the black is nice and even. It's very nicely done and while there are a few very minor marks it's 95% like new. It has a slight matte feeling to it where it has recently been painted but shat should go over time. I think VW got the original wheel spot on when they made it. It suits the car well and feels very comfortable. While I was there I took the steering column cowling aparts and lubricated the indicator stalk so it turns off automatically when you turn a corner. So the only electrical item left that doesn't work 100% is one of the LED's in the group of four on the mirror switch. I have a spare switch from a Jetta so I'll scavange the LED from that and solder it to the original switch. In traditional Corrado style I found part of the cowling was broken so fixed that while I was there too. The car is also finally garaged so protected from the elements after I spent a day clearing it out:

I had a black 5 door highline many years ago and absolutely loved it. I preferered it to my current 4Mo. -
Half of races will be shown live on the BBC which will also show highlights of all races. Sky will show all races live.

I have Sky and have pretty much all the packages excep Sport. But I'm not going to add it just for the f1. I love F1 but can only occasionally watch it. So it will be the end of F1 for me :(

I bought a refurbed steering wheel from emu. It was well done and incredibly well packaged in transit. Very happy, thankyou.

I'm in agreement with Jim. I think Corrado's are no longer best used as daily's if you don't have the time to address the issues. So either buy for occasional use and as a project, or buy the absolutely best one you can afford to minimise the maintenance effort. I wouldn't fancy using mine as a daily. In fact it makes it more special when you only use it occasionally.

This is why James May was fired from Autocar magazine

Yes could have been. Most likely is Green Pearl Effect. You could always ask the seller what the colour code is and that may give you a better confirmation. The colour code should be on a sticker in the boot and it should match one of th codes above.

There are several greens made in different years: Dark Green Metallic ----------------------LD6U ---------------------90 Green Pearl Effect ------------------------LC6V ---------------------90 - 93 Khaki Pearl Effect -------------------------LC6Z --------------------92 - 93 Classic Green Pearl Effect ---------------LC6U ---------------------93 & 95 Dragon Green Pearl Effect ---------------LC6P ---------------------94

Looks superb :)

Probably interested if it's in 2012. Can't do it in 2011 though. Just too busy with work and the kids :( Great idea though! (looks urgently to buy aircon from a breakers)

I had a very similar issue recently. I'd left something metallic laying against the positive battery terminal whcih was then touching the bodywork. When I tried to start the car the dash went blank, the engine wouldn't turn over and a horrible clicking noise eminated from the dash. I guessed it was electrical and simply removed the item laying on the battery and it started fine. Obviously yours won't be the same thing but it could be current leakage somewhere. Or could it just be a flat battery? I may be wrong but I would have assumed an immobiliser issue to cause the car not to turn over but is unlikely to affect the dash and cause any noise.

I was getting a lot of hanging and noticed the browser was waiting for google +1. So I disabled it in settings --> profile --> +1 --> off. It seems to have helped so far.

A 7" Android based tablet might fit better. It would also probably have more inputs and outputs as well as Google Maps (does the iPad have GMaps?)

I'd be interested to hear how much they cost if you wouldn't mind feeding back when you've spoken to the dealer. Thanks.

Personally I wouldn't use an AA inspection to view a Corrado unless I'd already seen it myself. I have little mechanical experience and before buying mine in May I hadn't bought a car privately since the 90's. I'll explain more... As some on here will recall it took me about a year to buy a car. Most of that was down to me expecting too much of a 15 to 20 year old car but some of it was due to being messed around by sellers. I quite often turned up to a "mint" car with "absolutely no rust" and "full service history" to find it tatty, rusted to high heaven, leaking oil everywhere and with a 20k history gap. It was rare to find the V5 in the sellers name too. It seemed that almost everyone allegedly sells a car on behalf of their friend or it's registered at their mums address 200 miles away (one man dealers *cough* - you know who you are!). Come on, I wasn't born yesterday ;) If I'd have used the AA for every car I wanted to see then I'd have spent all my car money on inspections. Also any buyer should appreciate they are buying an old car. Unless you're paying top price it will almost certainly have faults of some description. A few will be "perfect" but most will have something that needs to be done to it. In all likelihood the AA report will have a list of issues which will scare you off, even if it;s one of the best cars out there. So I'd rather meet the seller and get a good feel for them and how they talk about their car. An AA report will simply highlight a lot of things that will worry you. I'm not saying don't get the car checked out at all. I would certainly recommend taking someone with you who knows about cars even if they don't know Corrado's. You can also do a lot of homework long distance by carefully reading the ad and getting a feel for the words the seller uses (the ad itself is hugely telling in my view), talking to the seller on the phone (do they seem to care for the car and sound enthusiastic about it). Youshould also be able to lookup the service history with VW or talk directly to the garage that services the car (I did this - in fact I went to the garage itself and could judge whether I trusted the mechanics). An AA inspection will probably be better than all of the above but I would personally recommend that if you do want to pay for one then you should do it on a car you have already seen. Otherwise you might end up paying for a lot of inspections. I'd use them in a heartbeat for a 4 year old car. But on an old "modern classic" I'm not so sure. The best thing you can do is view as many cars as possible yourself. I probably viewed 2 or 3 cars which were better than the one I bought and should have got them. But I also viewed a lot of dogs too. Not being mechanically minded and previously just buying cars from dealers I had no real way of judging what a good Corrado should feel like. But after a few viewings I gradually got a feel for it and I think that, while I'm still no mechanic, I know what a good and bad one is like. Come on people - anyone in Cornwall willing to help out? If I was near there I'd be happy to view it first but sadly I'm in Surrey (If you happened to be near me and wanted to collect me en-route I'd happily accompany you for some moral support and a second opinion. I'm no mechanic though). EDIT: So my recommendation is: see the car, take a friend if possible, letg a forum member view in advance if possible, then get an AA inspection if you feel the need. EDIT2: P.S. Sorry for so many typo's... just a touch drunk right now EDIT3: I highly recommend buying a 'known' car from someone on this forum too. In fact when buying mine, my preference was for a car sold on this forum, then Pistonheads, then Autotrader and ebay as an absolute last resort that would probably never happen. EDIT4: Wow, did I really type all that while drunk?

I've got mixed views on the indicators. I really can't decide whether I like amber or not. On modern cars it looks terrible but I like the period feel it gives on older cars. However, while I'd keep the amber US style bumber side indicators I would agree with Abdul that cllear front indicators would be an improvement. The wheels look great though :thumbleft:

My rear VW badge is looking a little tired and faded. I'm considering re-spraying it silver again. How is it attached, what is the best way of removing it without damaging it, and should it be matte silver or chrome silver? Also I'm thinking of replacing my front grille VW badge with a black one. Again what is the best way of removing it without damage? Are they just clipped on or are they glued? Thank you.

Tidied up the garage today so I can finally get both cars in the garage. The corrado is now assured of a snug dry parking space.

Wow I really love that. If I didn't have my VR then I'd definitely be viewing that. It's quite close to me too. Can't justify a second one unfortunately.
