  1. You should upgrade to a VR6 mate. They have the later dash :D

    which bonnet???

I'm afraid I don't know. All I know is the wings are slightly different on newer cars but I don't know if that causes a problem at all with the bonnet.
  3. Not had to make the decision yet. But I'm pretty sure it will stay. It's got under my skin in a way I can't really explain :)
  4. Off at a tangent here. But this has always sent a chill up my spine and one day I want it played at my funeral. [video=youtube_share;TJRojmvlE6U]http://youtu.be/TJRojmvlE6U Excuse the blatant English flag as I know not everyone here is ENglish, but this was the first decent one that I could find.
  5. I wouldn't be interested in fancy colours. But I might be interested in a brighter standard green.

    which bonnet???

I prefer the early bonnet. Obviously it's not an option on a VR6 but as you have a 16v I'd go with that. However... (and I am happy to be corrected) didn't the later cars come with modified wings... so would an earlier bonnet fit as well on a car wth later wings? Dunno.
  7. Something I've noticed since I bought the car is the amount of affection people hold for it on other forums. I've mentioned it or posted pictures of it on a few non-motoring forums and it almost always gets positive comments, or people saying they love them. I'd expected a few chuftie moments in real life (not had many of those yet) but it does surprise me the affection people universally hold for this car. Apart from my wife (who hates it) I don't think I've had a negative word said yet. And honestly, when you think about it, that's quite surprising for a 17 year old VW. For the money I still can't think of anything else I'd rather own I just wish I had a little more time to spend doing things on it.
  8. I've never been. I keep promising myself I will do. Perhaps next year.

Haha, will have a think and get back to you. But yes I think it might look odd with one brand new allow and the others in poor condition.
  10. Was that monkey at Longleat? I went there a few weeks ago and went into the monkey enclosure. The signs saying "Warning- Monkeys will damage your car" weren't wrong. I managed to escape any damage by holding right back behind the rest of the cars but they literally jumped from one car to another ripping things off. Impressive work though :)
  11. Black on beige will look out of place. So I think you should sell it to me as I have a matching black interior. Sorry. (actually yes I think you should recolour it to match the interior)
  12. Thanks. What's the advantage of the mk2 diesel GB mount?

    BBS Solitude

I have one brand new, boxed, never been on a car, solitude. Bought around 2002 and never used. Not sure on value but to be honest I would probably want quite a bit for it. I was keeping it in case I bought a Storm but having just bought a non-Storm I may consider selling it. In 2002 I had a Golf VR6 Highline (same solitute alloys) and I kept it immaculate. My wife kerbed a wheel one day and she was so upset that she bought a replacement alloy that day from the dealers (it cost hundreds). I decided not to put the replacement on because the kerbing was quite light and it made more sense to keep until a wheel got badly damaged. But a few weeks later the house was burgled and the car stolen. So it has followed us from house to house ever since. It's sat in the original box and plastic wrapping in my loft and has probably only been out of the box a couple of times to look at it :) I suppose it really depends on whether you're looking for a concourse alloy or something to get refurbed with the rest of your set? EDIT: Oh and I'm just down the road from you for the double win (KT10 postcode - Claygate, Esher, Kingston area) :)
  14. Please bear with me as I don't have a lot of mechanical knowledge. In a month or two I'm taking the Corrado up to my brothers which is a few hours drive away. He is very mechanically minded and has access to garage facilities including a car lift. I'd like to get a number f things done including the engine mount which I'm fairly sure needs replacing due to quite a bit of engine movement. So I want to get any parts ready before I go up there. So my questions: 1) How many engine mounts are there (told you I had no mechanical knowledge)? 2) What other jobs is it worth doing at the same time for preventative maintenance - such as gearbox mounts (again - how many are there)? 3) Should I be getting VAG mounts or source them elsewhere (any recommendations)? Thanks.
  15. I'm going to go against the grain here a little. If you don't enjoy owning the car as much now, and more importantly if it is preventing you from buying something more important such as a house, then I would consider selling. You will certainly regret it. But at some point in the future you will be back in a position where you can buy something like a Corrado again. When I moved house and had kids I had to sell my mk1 TT. I loved that car. It was the only car I ever bought new and I was very attached to it. But it had to go because I was between houses, wasn't using it, it was occasionally getting minor damage from idiots parking near it, and I needed the money for the next house. So I sold it. And for many years I didn't have the money to buy myself a car (we bought the 4 door 4Mo instead which is a lovely car but not 'mine' in the sense of it being the car I would choose if I didn't have a family). But now, quite a few years later I have a Corrado and love it. So in the future you may not find another Corrado in the same condition but you would find another enthusiasts car that you would be happy with. The only fly in the ointment here is that if they rocket in value then you'd be kicking yourself. But life is a gamble and they could equally just hold their value or fade away over time. Another option would, as has been suggested, be to sell the Corrado and buy a cheaper one. But if that were me I know I wouldn't be happy with a cheaper, worse condition, car. And the difference in money isn't likely to be huge especially as maintenance costs might be higher. So I feel you need to sit down and really think hard as to whether having a Corrado in your life for the next few years is one of your strong desires for the next few years. If it isn't then you should consider selling.

  17. Right they are off :D I first tried drilling them to allow the use of a screw extractor. But the only metal drill bits I had were part of a kit someone gave me and were made of utter cheese. They wouldn't drill into the screws (wtf!?). So I got a big hammer out and hammered in a slightly larger spline bit and managed to get that working. Now to order some new allen bolts. Thanks for the suggestions.
  18. I might see if I can make this although it's close to my birthday so may not be around. Who else is planning to go? Is anyone camping? What else goes on at the weekend there?
  19. Just voted my grey in there.
  20. Here we go again :D Gets popcorn and sits down to watch the fight...
  21. Moonlight blue, silver or storm grey. Moonlight because it's just such a lovely deep colour. Silver and grey because they contrast so nicely against the black trim at various points on the car.
  22. I could try the silicone trick. I've 'glued' all sorts of things with that. If there is a large enough contact area then it should hold it. Just squeeze tons of clear DIY silicone sealant over the contact areas. If you ever want to take it off then pull very hard (might need something thin like a credit card slid between the contact area) and then the residue just peels off without leaving a mark. How large is the contact area between the cup holder and the console?
  23. Not sure if it will fit? The sunroof is a Corrado is not interchangeable and replacement casettes are usually from a Passat I think. DOn't know for sure though. However I recently cleaned mine up with some interior cloth shampoo. It made quite a difference.
  24. You can't lose with either. But my vote goes to the CH's.
