Anyone else recognise this? I got chatting to the owner and it's the car that a guy called Furkz on here used to own. It was black back then. The current owner has painted it a lovely matt colour; BMW Frozen Grey.

Saw this at the weekend - another great car :) -
This subject comes up occasionally. You should keep in mind that TCS is just a car selling business like any other. They don't particularly have any affection for Corrado's other than the fact they can make money out of them. And the warranty for a car from a small dealer is pretty useless in my view anyway. So given a choice of buying a car from a dealer, or buying a car from the owner that you can quiz and get a feel for the care and attention (or not) placed on the car then which would you prefer? I'd prefer the latter. In fact my preference when looking was to try to find a forum member selling a car so that I could look into the history of it beforehand. If they have the right car at the right money and condition then there's no point in discounting it as a potential purchase. But I'd equally say there is no point in specifically buying an older 'classic' from a dealer. I can't see that particular advert because it's on ebay and I'm at work. But the impression I get is that these small dealers tend to get the cars that owners can't sell (or in some small cases have been part exchanged - but I'd guess that happens less frequently with cars such as Corrado's). Also... the next question is whether you should buy a slightly higher mileage car that has had work done on it, or a low mileage example that hasn't. Hoses and bushes still perish with age regardless of mileage, and common faults such as heater matrix, sunroof, etc, are yet to break on a low mileage car (and they most certainly will break at some point). There are pro's and con's for each argument of course. Good luck with your search.

I'll upload a pic of the CCGB stand later tonight. But there were 6 cars on stand on Sunday: Yours (N831 VAJ) The burgundy one you mention A white G60 A blue 16v (with grey leather I think) Mine (a grey VR6) A green Storm (superb conditon)

Loved the car today. Everything is so right on it. The interior really makes it.
-
Looking superb there. The paintwork is floorless close up.

I'll be there later today. Need to get up in about 4 hours so best get some sleep...

Seems a touch high to me for a marmite car. You could get a very good VR6 for that.

Keep in mind that others may not like what has been done. If you intend to keep the car a long time then it's not relevant. but if you may sell it in a year then it's possible that it will be harder to sell. Does he have receipts to prove the service history? Also with a car this age it's about more than just yearly servicing. Can he demonstrate that parts have been replaced such as heater matrix, various hoses, bushes, etc? That's an odd thing to do unless he either deosn't like the G60 experience or the engine has issues. Most people buy a G60 because it's a G60. His purchase price isn't really very relevant to you as prices have fallen a lot recently. How much of the cost was bodywork and how much was maintaining the fundamental parts of the car? Well I think that's your answer. If you buy this then you may always look back and regret not getting the car you really wanted. And when one does come up this will be harder to sell because it's not standard. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a G60 and I'd certainly have one. But personaly I agree with others that I would prefer a nice well cared for, unmodified, VR6 to this particular car. Not trying to put you off it at all because it may well be a fantastic car. But personally it's not to my taste and I think you need to consider more that just the body.
-
Hard to say. A well modified G60 is equally as good as a standard VR6 (shh, don't tell the G60 crowd I admitted that). It depends on what type of car you're really after. Personally I'd take a standard car over a modified one (engine and suspension mods are fien in my book but the body has to be close to standard). You say the G60 has a nice air ride and bodywork but what is the rest of the car like? has the engine been well maintained? Does everything work? Does it have a good history? Have the common faults been addressed? Could you live with the modifications and could they be put back to standard easily (it's sometimes harder to re-sell a modified car)?

Thanks. I hadn't thought to check. Will do.

Put the battery back in. I had left the lights on yesterday (no warning buzzer) and found the battery flat late afternoon. Had great fun pushing it out of the way so I could get the golf out instead. Then annoyed the neighbours with the alarm going off when I removed the battery to charge it. It was a bit of a blessing in disguise though as at least it happened at home rather than me stranding myself in some remote car park. I will be far more attentive to the lights next time :). Also I found the positive battery strap doesn't fully tighten so there is a risk of it slipping off over bumps. So I've rigged up a temporary holding bracket and will get that fixed properly in the next few weeks. Like I said.. probably a good thing it happened really :D

Another Momo Trek R here. Will be for sale soonish but I need to get a replacement standard leather wheel first.

Did you pay by credic card? They are jointly liable under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974. You can seek redress from them too. They may be more responsive.

If it were me and GWerks was within a hundred mies I'd be driving down there and refusing to leave until I had everything.

Great link, thanks. I was trying to get a Storm Grey touch up from Halfords but no joy.
-
Doh, just ordered some oil from you on Monday! Also, the TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OFFER HERE link doesn't work.

Minor update... I had a spare 5 mins tonight so I fixed the broken rear shelf strap using the soldering iron trick to 'weld' the break together. At some point I'll probably replace them but it does the job, looks fine and was free :) Sorry for the relatively small updates... I'm using this thread as a kind of history of work so I (or any future owner) can look back and see what's been done. I think that's quite important as they gradually move to a classic status :)

Nice to see both of you get what you want :)

Nice. Love the head unit. Very old skool. -
The strips themselves don't make it waterproof. Yes they are just to hide the seams. But The rubber forms a tight seal over the lip (a little lie the windscreen rubbers). You can peel it back but I guess (and it's just a guess) that it's to weatherproof the gulley so water doesn't collect in there.
